I'm thinking about getting a tattoo

If you knew me, I'd be the last person you'd think of getting a tattoo but...i keep looking at tiny tattoos on pinterest and other blogs and I'm really tempted.

What if I don't like it once it's done?

Will it hurt?

How do you choose a good tattoo place?

Will everyone think I'm having a mid life crisis?

They are all very subtle designs which would look good regardless of age. I've got three tattoos. It depends on where you get them as to how much they hurt.

Most painful for me was wrist but I've heard some people say fleshy areas hurt more than those not so fleshy.

If you want to do it, go for it! What other people think doesn't matter.

I personally would go by word of mouth. Reputation is everything to a good tattoo artist.

If you don't like it.....there's always removal but if it's something small that you really liked, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Unless you get one on your face, you can always hide them!

Literally every type of person these days has a tattoo. They're as mainstream as jeans.

The most important thing is to choose a good artist. A lot of them showcase their work on Instagram so that might be a good place to start.

Re. removal, keep in mind that this costs a lot more than getting a tattoo in the first place. A booming business I believe.

McDougal I'm quite fleshy everywhere! Maybe the pain will put me off. Is there any sort of comparable pain?

Do colour ones hurt more?

I'm definitely not getting one on my face! Or anywhere most people will see it. I'm thinking of my foot because it can be hidden away

I think foot tattoos can go blurry more quickly than tattoos on fleshier body parts. I may be wrong though.

That first one's awful-very wobbly. Second one is beautiful,third is a bit meh.

I have 4 tattoos. 2 on my back, 1 large one on my wrist and 1 on my ribs.

I would say ribs were worst. Also the wrist one was painful about 1 inch from my palm.

My rib one is small (in comparison to my others) while painful it was quick.

I had my ribs, and upper back recoloured (i have had it 15 years. in one session, i can be a wuss but got through 3 hours in one session.

@LovelyBaubles Well I'd personally say that those on less fleshy areas hurt more - my wrist was definitely the most painful. I wouldn't actually call it pain though, more uncomfortable.

I'd also say that the outline hurts more than the shading but have friends that would disagree!

As for colours hurting more, definitely not. The designs you've chosen are quite dainty so I wouldn't imagine they'd take too long. A few deep breaths and it will be over Smile

I've just had my first done and was exactly like you Blush I've got my year of birth on my side, it's about an inch big. I'll be honest it hurt a lot more than I thought it would and I expected it to be painful! But it's worth it and I love it 😍 and now I'm planning my next one

I have the same tattoos pinned! I really love the middle one but have struggled to find a tattoo artist locally that i would trust to do a good job and i do wonder if at almost 47 it's my midlife crisis. I've also been vocal about the bad/Benidorm/Thailand tatts that several colleagues have come home with.
I've also had an ex that had a tattoo removed which cost a fortune and was hideously painful. That's maybe also why I've still not got one..

I'm early 40s, and booked in to get my first tattoo next week! I've been thinking about it for ages, and knew the tattoo studio I wanted to go to, so I went and had a consultation, came away and thought about it for a couple of weeks, and have now paid my deposit. I'm getting something small in black only on my inner forearm. If I hate it for any reason - which I'm confident I won't - it's only going to be visible in short sleeves. The artist talked to me about a pain scale, and said that if one was no pain, the forearm would be a three, whereas areas like the genitals (OUCH) would be a ten, so I'm hoping it won't be too sore.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of mimsy little wrist tattoos as they make me think of Gap Yah Sophies. Foot tattoos look much cooler I think.
I guess it depends - you'll always notice one on your own wrist but feet are easier to cover ( if that's a consideration for you).

Pain wise I should say I have a design at the top of my neck which took about an hour and a half. It's not too complex but it's a lot of black. It felt like being repeatedly flicked with elastic bands. It's not the worst sensation in the world but when they did the top of my spine it stung like a muthafucker
10 years on and I don't mind it, but I wouldn't say I love it. I'm in the process of deciding what piece to have across my back which will complement it. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it if I had to see it every day.

These are some of the other foot tattoos I'm considering... The dandelion is too big but I think it'd be ok if it was a little smaller. And only on one foot.

lady that's why I'm thinking of my foot in case I go off it. Also I work in a very corporate job - I'm thinking that it'll be covered most of the time and is just something for me.

Do foot tattoos really go blurry?

I've just has my first tatoo. I have a flower on my wrist.

It took 15 minutes and I love it. It did hurt but it's bearable and I'm a total wimp when it comes to pain.

I've had roughly 7 hours of work on my feet. The skin on your feet is more prone to blowouts, so make sure you go to a very good tattooist if you get a tattoo there (but it could still happen).

I find tattoos hurt more the longer you sit there, but I find no variation in the pain whether the artist is using colour or not. It really won't be that bad, otherwise nobody would go back! Go for it Smile

I love the little ones, was going to have one in a different colour to black, maybe red or white?? A bit more subtle. I heard you should draw the design on for a year to see if you still like it!!

I got one in 1996 and still love it. A dear friend designed it for me.

Been thinking of getting another for a while now. Waiting for inspiration to strike.

Go for it op. If you know any one good at drawing perhaps they could work something for you? I love that mine is unique to me.

I found the "pain" to
Be more of an irritation than something I had to suffer. Highly bearable and temporary.
