M&S shirt dress - thoughts?

I saw this shirt dress when I was in M&S the other day, looking for tights.

I really liked the look of it but I am worried that only older people have reviewed it - is it an 'old' dress?
For context I am 5 foot 2, size 8 and would wear it as a dress with ankle boots (and nude underwear as one of the reviews says it is a bit sheer)

That's lovely. I'd wear it & I'm mid 30s and consider myself quite stylish. In fact I think I'll order it!

Mammamooandboo · 22/03/2017 15:45

Its nice. I would wear it if i didnt have gigantic thighs (i only wear midis) but its a nice dress and im 29 (although no clue if its 'fasionable')

WellieWanger · 22/03/2017 15:46

I like it. With you being petite however you don't want it to drown you/look shapeless. I would team it with a skinny tan belt?

Mammamooandboo · 22/03/2017 15:46

Oh its quite long. Yep still like it Smile

WellieWanger · 22/03/2017 15:47

Oh just seen you're planning in wearing it with tights. Sorry. Read the thread wellie!

SunshineOutdoors · 22/03/2017 15:48

I like it in Navy better than khaki

PeachMelba78 · 22/03/2017 15:51

Thanks all! I think I would wear it with a belt sometimes, and then without, with a structured jacket. I am 39 (almost) but people think I am 25-30 which I love so I don't want to dress too old but at the same time not too young IYSWIM?

I did like the blue version but the khaki is more my colour!

Hmm. I love khaki but that looks a strange shade. Also, I suspect it would crease at the blink of an eye. It also looks v long. I think you could find better tbh.

knowler · 23/03/2017 10:03

It's very fashionable and not 'old' at all. i'm wearing a black M&S shirt dress today for work and have already had 3 compliments on it :)

imjessie · 23/03/2017 10:53

As long as it fits it will be fine, I'm a similar size and I have a denim shirt like that but probably not quite as long . It's fitted though so it shows I have a waist ( in an hourglass )

imjessie · 23/03/2017 10:55

Khaki is very on trend for this spring summer too.. the more I look at it the more I think I may but it too. Just my style !

FunkinEll · 23/03/2017 10:56

I really like the dress especially in khaki but the Tencell would put me off. It's so creasy and annoying but I am iron-phobic

Cocolepew · 23/03/2017 11:08

I got one from George at Asda and it's bloody lovely.

PeachMelba78 · 23/03/2017 12:02

Cocolepew can you link the Asda one?

OP posts:
Cocolepew · 23/03/2017 12:23

its this one there is a couple of other shirt dresses on the website.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 23/03/2017 12:30

hmm.....not sure that is a good enough material to wear as a dress....it's a long shirt, rather than a shirt dress

I reckon folks will think you have forgotton to put your trousers on.

and viscose is a bastard, it shrinks as soon as look at it, and needs to be ironed back out to size.

Monkeybunkey · 23/03/2017 13:27

I like it, mainly because I'm wearing something very similar today! With black leggings, black boots and a black cardi over the top. I'm the same age as you too (although I'm 5'6" and a size 14-16).

PeachMelba78 · 23/03/2017 15:04

That sounds very nice Monkey!
I am going to try it on tomorrow, to check the length, creasing etc.
I really don't think it will be too short on me - I am very short!

GertyTheGert · 23/03/2017 15:12

I like it too - A LOT! I rarely say that with M&S nowadays but it looks super - and as modelled too! (Does easily crease?) Am tempted!!!!!!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 23/03/2017 15:14

I'm 5'4'' and some shirt dresses drown me, definitely try it on for length, it shouldn't be down way past your knees! Size 8 in M &S I find on the large size as well for some reason.

I have a similar one in denim and wear it with black leggings, ankle boots and a cardi. I also wear it open over a top and trousers as a light jacket. I don't think it's old fashioned and frumpy, I hope not! Confused

PeachMelba78 · 23/03/2017 15:25

ILostIt - I would like to wear it open as well, I think it makes a change from cardis - I will see when I go in tomorrow.

Still haven't found any dark grey tights though!

I have that dress in khaki, I wear it with a belt - I like it, it does come up quite large so you may want to consider a size smaller than usual.

PeachMelba78 · 23/03/2017 15:32

Thanks Guitargirl - It doesn't come any smaller than an 8 but I can always take it to the tailors.

PeachMelba78 · 28/03/2017 14:16

Well I ended up buying it, and a green belt to go with it, although I started off today in a silvery nude one.
I would say it runs true to size, and it doesn't wrinkle particularly (I have a desk job so plenty of opportunity for creasing).

I am wearing it today with my favourite Jaeger cardi, so I have included a pic of cardi on and off!
