What makeup do I need for my face?

I've decided that foundation and powder looks too cakey, I can't get a mineral powder foundation in the right shade, tinted moisturiser leaves my face shiny. All I want is something light coverage that looks like I have skin on my face rather than make up. Does this exist?

Thanks chish, at least I'm not alone. It may be my age, approaching 40, that's making my make up look caked. I don't know. I would just love something to brighten and provide a bit of coverage but look natural. Especially for summer, I don't mind a powdered face in the winter but not the summer

Can you not put a bit of your own foundation in with your moisturiser? That's what I do in summer.

Chanel - Soleil du Chanel -it's a lovely creamy one. Not powdery.
Or its dupe - Boots 17 cream bronzer.
Or W7 has a dupe too. Will check the name.

Bourjois City Radiance foundation makes you look natural & glowing. Bourjois CC cream is nice & natural too.

Ooh & highlighter. Lots of highlighter!! Make Up Revolution from Superdrug do some also palettes of various shades for around a tenner.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of mixing foundation and moisturiser but I think that might be the same as tinted moisturiser which I'm not getting on with.
I def don't want bronzer, I don't want to add any colour, it's more for light coverage all over that I'm after.
Cc cream sounds interesting, I always forget these and bb creams as I don't know what they are really
But maybe I need to try one

I like the Clinique cc cream a lot.

I'm using Gosh foundation drops at the moment. I love it. It's very easy to use and a little is enough to even out my skin but if I want a more made-up look I just use more.

Laura mercier tinted moisturiser - the oil free one - with a really good,light translucent powder on t zone. It's all I've worn for years and previously had similar problems to what you are describing.

Foundations goes claggy and clings to hair bits on face! Yuck!

Bare minerals complexion rescue might be up your street, depending on your skin. I've been using it since it came out a year or so back and it's one of those very rare products I've re-bought again and again. Try it out at a counter maybe. There's also a review thread on here at the moment too. A tube lasts for ages which is also a bonus, you don't need much.

Agree with Laura Mercier and Clinique - plus a vote for Ren's BB cream (orange tube) which is really light and feels/smells lovely.

Think I'd just use a glowy primer, some concealer, bit of translucent loose powder on t-zone and two blushers- one natural sheer one and one slightly deeper shimmery one for cheekbones.

By shimmer I just mean Bobbi Brown shimmer brick. So just like slight highlight rather than MAC type strobing.

If you get on with them, cream blush gives the most natural effect and will make it look like you've no make up.

That along with a good concealer under eyes and on blemishes should be all you'll need.

In so jealous of all of you I have such bad redness I hate wearing no make up.

I've tried IT cc cream recently. I was quite impressed. Nice and light, makes me look like I'm having a good skin day plus it has spf 50 in it.

Estée Lauder's daywear tinted moisturiser is great, it comes out as one shade, a sort of clay colour, then naturally adapts to your own skin tone as you apply it so it gives you an 'airbrushed' evened out look rather than an overly made up one.

Try a bb cream with translucent powder. It's lighter and doesn't need to match as it's translucent!

What has worked wonders for me is naking sure my face is well moisturised before applying foundation. I like Nivea creme but depends on your skin type. Then use a damp beauty blender to apply foundation lightly and dab, dab, dab....and dab.

I have problem with foundation looking caked because of my dry skin. It's like my thirsty skin sucks all the moisture in and all that's left after a couple of hours is dry makeup pigment. Just sitting there on my face. Grim.

I've now started using just a creamy concealer on the uneven pigmentation on my chin and nose, plus under my eyes OBVS and overall I'd say it's much better. The one I use at the moment is a crayon one by Revlon. The minute I use powder, things get cakey. So I don't.

Now weighing up the pros of just having clear but slightly uneven skin vs even but spotty skin c/o foundation!
