Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Eucerin 10% lotion keeps my KP away Lego. I love soap and glory body scrubs too. The citrusy smelling one is particularly good as it's very oily. Leaves skin really soft.

Dulcimena · 14/04/2017 18:14

Lego I like the Palmers that Olli recommended for KP and general dry skin, it does stink but it works. I have some of the Eucerin 10% Enid mentioned but tbh I don't enjoy using it, so I don't. V thick and greasy and smells quite medicinal to me.

I do exfoliate with a salux cloth in the shower a lot at this time of year (would probably help to use throughout the winter but hey ho). Once you've got it under control a regular moisturiser should keep it at bay, I really rate the Korres ones in the tubes, I think they're called body milks but they are pretty thick. Not at all runny or "milky".

I'm not sure that TO retinoid even in dilution would be the best way of dealing with it, that feels as though it could either be v spendy or not v effective or both.

Tend Skin appears to be mainly rubbing alcohol, I guess to disinfect, with water, a bit of soluble aspirin and glycerin. You could definitely make that at home I think! I'd be wary of using that everyday given the high alcohol content.

RubyGoat · 14/04/2017 19:13

Ha! I could try dissolving aspirin in alcohol, in a tiny roller applicator or dropper, & just using it as an on-the-spot treatment. No way I'm paying that price for a daily leg treatment if I can try making it at home. Apparently Tea Tree oil helps so I'll add a little of that too.

I'll check out the Eucerin & Palmers, thanks.

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 19:16

Oh I'll have to get some more of that soap and glory one then! It's weird, I think it says it has fruit acids in. Anyway I used it on a scrubby thing like my other shower gels and after a few weeks noticed my arms were smoother and softer. Took me a while to click what it was!
Also after surgery I couldn't shower for TEN DAYS and my KP on my arms nearly disappeared completely Confused

EnidButton · 14/04/2017 19:25

I just put the eucerin on the patches of KP and on my upper arms which don't have any now so it keeps it away. I don't use it all over. It is thick. I have to wander about nekkid for a bit whilst it sinks in.

Eucerin on KP bits, Aveeno on lower legs, Garnier body repair (red bottle) everywhere else. I'm like a basted chicken by the time I've finished. Grin

EnidButton · 14/04/2017 19:26

I've got a little bottle of the S&G body wash. Have to give it a try.

mintmagnummm · 14/04/2017 19:35

Right I'm going to give my face theory regenacalm serum a go.....

elliej83 · 14/04/2017 19:43

I would love some help with my skincare routine. It's pants at present!

My skin type is combination. It can get dry on my forehead but is oily on my nose and chin.

I am 30!

My primary skin concern is ageing. Particularly around my eyes.

My current morning routine is Liz Earle hot polish cleanser, Clinique pep start moisturiser and eye cream. The evening is the same except I take my makeup off using a Clinique makeup remover.
Twice a week I try and use elemis papaya enzyme peel as an exfoliator and elemis tri enzyme resurfacing mask once a week.
The Liz Earle cleanser and the papaya peel I feel work for me but moisturiser I don't feel is amazing and I really need something to sort the wrinkles by my eyes. Same with the makeup remover.

I wear light makeup but so put a lot of mascara on so not always easy to find anything to get it off.

I don't really have a spend limit if something works.

Basically I just want my eyes to be less wrinkly and my skin to feel a bit brighter and plumper.

Help me!!

Elliej83 - some reading to start you off.
Skincare Basics

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 20:43

TO 1% retinol update
NOT for sensitive skin (use the 2% retinoid instead)
My cheeks are a bit red/tender but the rest of my face is fine if flaky. The fine lines on my forehead are diminishing and I am glowing
I definitely used too much, too fast so have eased back a bit now as moisturiser is stingy when I apply
Hopefully it will help the hormonal acne as well so I'll update as I go along provided my face doesn't fall off Grin

mintmagnummm · 14/04/2017 20:53

Olli can u post pics so we can see aswell as the written updates??

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 20:56

I can Smile
Retinol used tonight but not on cheeks. Red marks on nose will always be from my glasses (unless I've worn lenses!)
I'll try and do them in the same light

Thanks olli skin looks smooth and glowy

mintmagnummm · 15/04/2017 07:06

Can a retinol serum cause breakouts? I used the regenacalm serum last night, no burning or anything like that but have woken up with spots on my neck and one on cheek.

mintmagnummm · 15/04/2017 07:08

Aqua, glycerin, glycyrrhiza glabra (liquorice) extract, dillweed peucedanum graveolens, l-ascorbic acid, sodium hyaluronate, tocopherol, ferulic acid, retinol (retinyl palmitate), aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice, phenoxyethanol.

These are the ingredients

purple15 · 15/04/2017 10:54

Face Theory Signiture moisterisor

Purchased this a few days ago and also some of the serums from The Ordinary.
At first the moisterisor just didn't soak in, it just sort of sat on top.
So this morning I didn't use any of the serums just theLRP demo cleanser then the Face Theory mousterisor and it still sits on top and doesn't seem to soak in.

Shop · 15/04/2017 10:59

Which moisturiser is it purple?
I love the night cream total hero product for me but found the same with the m4 day cream

purple15 · 15/04/2017 11:11

It's the Signiture

miffy2 · 15/04/2017 15:12

My small bottle of BR P50W arrived earlier in the week. I have used it twice, a few drops on a dampened piece of cotton wool after cleansing at night. First time I did not apply anything on top, a couple of nights later I applied a night cream on top. So far so good. I have a few Qs though:

  1. How often should I build up to using? If I end up using it every night must I then eliminate retinoids completely?
  2. Can I use other serums on top of it, and which actives must I not use (retinoids, lactic acids etc)? Can I use, say, Matrixyl or TO Buffet and a night cream/oil?

Thanks :)

mintmagnummm · 15/04/2017 15:36

Purple I use the signature moisturiser and love it. It does need lots of massaging in and goes quite white but does eventually absorb. I know the massaging is a pain but I think it's worth it and this along with the relaxing night cream has become a fave of mine.

olderthanyouthink · 15/04/2017 15:50

I want to pick, poke and squeeze...

Do I just have to leave these alone?

  1. Any reaction at all to the P50W? If not, perhaps another few weeks at 2 x p/wk, then try every other night for a few weeks and see what happens? I'll be honest, I was pretty down on this stuff but when I cut back to just 1-2 x p/wk it seemed to suit me better well, it suits better or is doing nothing, either way my skin is happier. Re retinoids, are you using TO 2%? If so then I have used that on the same night as P50W without major effects after some time of using them separately, I was alternating nights for quite a while. The TO 2% is v mild - if you're using anything stronger then I'd be much more careful. However, watch your own skin, you know how it behaves when it's unhappy or about to get so, I'm sure.
  2. You can use Buffet or Matrixyl with it providing they don't cause any irritation currently. I find Buffet very calming so will use this with any/everything. Ditto moisturisers/oils, all fine. I would avoid any other exfoliating actives eg acids or retinoids while you're bedding it in to your routine.
Dulcimena · 15/04/2017 20:10

Olli that's really interesting that your KP vanished after not showering for 10 days. You know how handwash is crazily drying on the skin, well I wonder if shower gel is the same, so by eliminating that your skin was less parched and your skin was able to self-moistiurise the way it should and the KP sorted itself out accordingly. I always associate KP with v dry skin...and I don't moisturise in winter which is when it gets really bad...hmmm...

Can anyone rec any really nice and genuinely moisturising shower gels/body washes?

Ollivander84 · 15/04/2017 20:18

The soap and glory one (clean on me) is good for KP
I haven't found anything mega moisturising apart from either a shower oil or using that Nivea in shower moisturiser which I really like. Just be careful if you use it, it makes the shower incredibly slippery!!!

Ollivander84 · 15/04/2017 20:19

Posted too soon! And yes maybe skin rebalanced. I was doing a strip wash with my fave dr bronners but only the essential bits so arms weren't getting washed as such
