Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Re TO Vit C, I use it pretty much like JD but with no waiting. I don't use much, then immediately apply a serum on top (TO Buffet or Snail Bee Essence) and then sunscreen. The serum seems to smooth out any grittiness.

I don't know whether its the Vit C or the fact that I'm not using moisturiser at the moment, but my seb filaments have vanished.

Ollivander84 · 13/04/2017 23:07

Dulci - is it like a peel thing?

Dulcimena · 13/04/2017 23:14

Yes, it's the peeling solution, so more of a mask than a serum.

Ollivander84 · 13/04/2017 23:17

Does sound interesting. If my face wasn't peeling off with retinol at the minute Grin

Dulcimena · 13/04/2017 23:33

Does it feel as though the 1% is irritating or is it just quietly shedding, and would you repurchase? I'm really interested in your reports on it, thanks for posting.

Ollivander84 · 13/04/2017 23:41

More stingy? Than the 2% but I didn't notice any skin difference with the 2% hence trying the stronger one
It's shedding a bit like when silicone pills as opposed to huge flakes Grin and I have a few spots around my chin lurking
Going to carry on and see how it goes as I have a suspicion it may really help my skin. Not sure whether to carry on every other night or drop to every third

Pupsiecola · 13/04/2017 23:45

Dulc - no moisturiser? What's that all about then? Have I missed sth?

userallusedup · 14/04/2017 00:10

I was eyeing up that AHA/BHA peel when I had my last TO splurge, luckily I decided against it as I went OTT as it was & have more than enough going on right now before adding anything else. I might try it in the future. I'm also thinking of trying the 1% retinol at some point but I'm just going to let my current routine bed in for now.

I don't use moisturiser in the morning either, I use the hylamide subq anti age as the final step before SPF which seems to be enough for me. I don't like creams or lotions for day time as they make me too oily and my makeup slides off, Deciem suggested using their NMF as a final AM step but I don't feel I need it.

I really really hope the Vit c gets rid of my SF, I'd be over the moon. I've only been using it since Monday and maybe wishful thinking but my skin seems brighter.

userallusedup · 14/04/2017 00:14

Deciem have just sent me an email, their foundations are launching in a few days, are any other makeup wearers thinking of trying them? Must admit I'm tempted just by the price alone, they're a quarter of the price of my current cc cream.

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 00:22

I have preordered the serum and the coverage foundation Grin from Victoria health

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 00:27

More info and links to colour guide on the foundations here https://www.victoriahealth.com/editorial/april-newsletter-2017

EnidButton · 14/04/2017 01:23

Did you go for the 1.0p shade? I'm quite impressed with the colours. Think I'd get 1.0N. Be very interested to hear what you think about them.

EnidButton · 14/04/2017 01:27

Jesus, I've just seen the price! Shock I hope they've stocked up. If they're any good, they're going to fly off the 'shelves'.

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 01:37

1.0p in both Grin yes I got my order in early and it says they're going by date of order so crossed fingers! I thought the serum one might be good for day time and the coverage for if I need heavier

EnidButton · 14/04/2017 01:46

Hope they get sent out soon!

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 01:51

Me too. I snagged a Lancome 008 sample and it's perfect but I have to use up a foundation before I buy it Grin
Ohhhhhh. My £30 of boots vouchers are arriving soon. Tricky Wink

mintmagnummm · 14/04/2017 07:29

Now why did my spf roll this morn?? It hasn't the last two mornings and I've done nothing different Hmm

mintmagnummm · 14/04/2017 08:11

Can someone tell me what the main benefits (for the skin) these products would have please (trying to figure out the differences.....

*Niod naap

Vitamin c

Retinol*

Thanks Grin

Dulcimena · 14/04/2017 08:55

Morning Pups - no, not missed anything! I'm just finding that now it's not so cold, I'm fine with layering a few serums and just adding a bit of moisturiser if my skin feels dry. So eg last night was Buffet + Hada Labo Premium HA + Snail Bee Essence. I do like the Benton Snail Bee steam cream (that contains nia btw) but it's a bit heavy for me now.

Olli thanks for the info. I'm giving the 2% another go at the moment, just a couple of times a week tbh, but it definitely sounds like the 1% has more kapow! Will be interested to hear about the colour stuff too when it arrives, but I don't think they'll be for me unfortunately due to the silicones. Have you got an ETA?

userallusedup · 14/04/2017 10:52

I've just pre-ordered a TO coverage foundation from Victoria Health. I do not need another foundation but at that price it was too tempting not to try. And if I end up liking it, it will save me £££ compared to the ones I normally use.

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 12:26

Dulci not yet but I think from the newsletter and when I ordered it should be within a week or two

RubyGoat · 14/04/2017 16:03

Ok... so I have a few questions.

I've decided to go for it & place an order for the TO serum foundation & primer. Way cheaper than the one I'm currently using, which I'm not so keen on anyway. Is there anything else I could benefit from getting while I'm placing an order? I don't currently use anything from them, mainly because I don't like spending £3 on postage for just 1 item.

I'm not so keen on the SVR Sensifine fluid moisturiser that I'm using as a trial to replace the LRP Toleriane fluide. It's just a little bit too rich for my skin I think. I was wondering about the Eucerin Ultra Sensitive for normal / combination skin, or the Avene Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream. The Avene seems easier to get in the UK, albeit at about twice the price of EPP.

Do body scrubs cause as much harm to body skin as facial scrubs do to the face? Can they be useful for Keratosis Pilaris? I have some on my arms & legs & although it's not that bad, it's annoying and, coupled with my other skin concerns, I end up pretty much covering up head to foot all year. Good for long term sun protection but quite depressing...

Also do body scrubs help with ingrown hairs after depilation? I've always had problems with this. TBH it's so bad & I mark so badly (very pale) that I just don't bother most of the year. Would chemical exfoliants be more effective? If I can sort out the the ingrowns, I'd go back to using an epilator again. Way easier & less maintenance than anything else I've tried.

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 16:12

Lego - I can't remember what your skin was like but the HA + B5 from the ordinary is good on me, or the 2% retinoid?
The Avene moisturiser is the one I'm using and like very much, worth shopping around for via Google for best price or waiting for a Boots offer
I love a good body scrub Grin and get mine from a company that's now closed Sad they help my flaky shins. For KP - I really rate the palmers anti ageing body lotion. It has AHA in, it stinks but it works. Also bizarrely soap and glory clean on me body wash helps mine, and if it doesn't work it's nice smelling anyway!
I believe tend skin is meant to be v good for ingrown hairs but haven't used it myself

RubyGoat · 14/04/2017 17:24

Yeah, sorry it would have helped if I'd mentioned that. I'm combination /slightly oily / a bit dehydrated, tendancy to be a bit sensitive (although I'm getting on completely fine with the BR P50W so far, so stinging or irritation when applied with damp cotton wool).

I'm wondering if I should get the TO Niacinamide - the moisturiser I'm currently using has it in but I'm not keen on the product overall. Argh, what do...

My shins are a bit flaky too, always have been. Unless I regularly cover them with lotion, which I don't have time for... I really need to start. Like I need to use my ironing board. slattern

The Tend Skin seems quite pricey for daily use. Has anyone used it & had success with just occasional use (i.e. as & when they get an ingrown hair). The main active ingredient appears to be salicylic acid, am I missing something? Would it be possible to make a similar thing at home?

I'll get the S&G body wash, thanks for the recommendation. Did you know it's on offer at the moment? According to Dr Google, retinoids can help with KP. Would that be the same kind of retinoids that some of you are putting on your faces? I might get some & mix in with my body lotion if that's the case.

wiltingfast · 14/04/2017 17:25

Hi guys, gothamista video on PIE marks .

Lego, I tend to use a scrubby sponge on my KP and follow with a heavy moisturiser on those bits. I switch to a sls free body wash and I think that has made my skin generally smoother. Have tried my nip and fab pads on the KP but haven't noticed they had any impact. V erratic though. Might try it again now summer is allegedly approaching .

Have you considered TOs natural moisturising factors? I think beautypedia gave it a good review? They liked the buffet too.
