I have had a terrible hair cut (with pics)

I asked for something similar to Jennifer Lawrence in the film Passengers 😳

My hair was long ish and quite damaged so thought I'd go for the chop and it looked ok till I washed it and looked closer. It's naturally wavy/curly and looks so uneven even if I've not straightened it. When I blow dried it straight it sticks out like a bloody mushroom. Once it's straight you can see how uneven it is. Basically it looks completely shit no matter what I do.

Wtf am I going to do?! It's also a bit shorter than I asked for so now I think I'm just going to end up with it far shorter than I wanted if it is repaired. I could actually cry. I've had a horrendous couple of weeks and really wanted to feel better about myself. AND I've got a night out planned for this weekend!!

Help please!

I think it looks fine either way. The first pics look like a choppy bob the 2nd looks like much longer hair.

If you want it straight you have to blow dry the back in sections- pin it up, blow dry the underneath layers first, then the top layers.

PollyPerky · 05/03/2017 07:58

Why does the curly version make you look as if your hair is much darker?

Gallavich · 05/03/2017 07:58

Styled straight it doesn't look good but curly is lovely! Relax and wear it curly until it's grown out a bit then have the layers smoothed out.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/03/2017 08:46

Don't forget that JL will have spent HOURS in with the stylist to get her hair that effortlessly perfect and casual looking. I've fallen foul of this myself when my hairdresser has obviously thought that the high street version of the Hollywood hairstyling I've asked for means hacking at me with a razor for five minutes.

peoplepleaser70 · 05/03/2017 09:00

It looks great curly. I have naturally wavy/messy hair and I always straighten just the ends to pull it down slightly and make it more 'nice touseled waves'. I also section it off and straighten only the under section it makes it sit better.

Purplebluebird · 05/03/2017 09:02

I think it looks fine curly!

taybert · 05/03/2017 09:07

It looks nice curly but I can see what you mean, I think it could have been cut better. That said, I am looking at close up pictures of your hair, not just you wandering around with the hair on your head, which is how hair is usually viewed.

Have a play over the next week or so. You need to be able to style it so you're happy with it day to day, if you can't, it doesn't matter how good the cut is, it's no good for you.

Snowflake65 · 05/03/2017 09:26

Oh I love it curly. I have hair envy

EmmaWoodlouse · 05/03/2017 09:54

I think it looks as if the uneven-ness is intentional. If you're very self-conscious about it, drying it curly is probably the easiest way to go (and I did quite like the curly look in your pic), but I think people would assume it's just meant to be a choppy cut.

Is it long enough to put up in any way? That might be another way round it until it's grown a bit. If you really want it longer, I think it would be a mistake to have it cut even shorter.

honeylou42 · 05/03/2017 14:05

Looks lovely curly Smile

DionFortune · 06/03/2017 01:04

Oh you lot are bloody lovely, I feel loads better about it now, thank you! Flowers

I'm not sure how an undercut would work, it is really thick and bulky though, no idea how the hairdresser can sort that out.

I'm going full on blonde on Tuesday as well, naturally fairly dark but have been gradually getting lighter. Basically I'm just disappointed that I'm not Jennifer Lawrence I think ha!

I'll update after it's been fixed, hopefully it will sit better when it's been evened out. The random long bits are making it even harder to get it look nice and not really messy and uneven. The hairdresser I'm going to is amazing but really expensive, totally worth it tho if I come out feeling good. Will get tips on how to style it as well.

I agree that it looks great curly, but I'd also be shocked if my recently cut but instyled hair looked like the first pics you posted. Hope you new appointment leaves to feeling fabulous!

ArseyTussle · 06/03/2017 07:31

I'd have to be sedated to use a mobile hairdresser, after suffering years of one as a child and young teen.

There's a difference between choppy/textured and badly cut, and you have the latter I'm afraid, that cut is by someone who doesn't know how to do a broken up outline.

Your hair is definitely shorter than the JL pic, but with a bit of fixing of those wonky bits it will look really lovely.

ArseyTussle · 06/03/2017 07:32

Forgot to say, I love the colour of your hair. Smile

DionFortune · 07/03/2017 23:17

UPDATE: I love love love my hair!! The hairdresser has finally got it the colour I was after, evened it up all round and made it look fabulous! I could have cried when I saw it when they had finished, took 4 hours and £100 but was worth every penny. I am very happy now Grin

Holy crap that is shit-hot hair.

IHeartKingThistle · 07/03/2017 23:21

I'd be so tempted to send your before and after pics to the original hairdresser with a complaint.

IHeartKingThistle · 07/03/2017 23:21

I mean shit-hot in a good way!

babyunicornvomit · 07/03/2017 23:22

It looks nice wavy! It does look uneven when straight though, I'd let your hair do it's natural thing Grin

DionFortune · 07/03/2017 23:34

Thank you! I feel shit hot now! Smile Apart from a bloody huge cold sore but that's a whole other thread... they have somehow managed the feat of making it look longer, what strange magic is this? Shock

The original hairdresser took some of my hair with her to see how it bleached, she texted me this morning to say it was bad news and she had tried two different bleaches and it just came up orange. Errrrr wtf were you using lady, Domestos?!

It's gorgeous

conkerpods · 07/03/2017 23:51

Looks amazing!

PickAChew · 07/03/2017 23:55

The repair is so much better.

The original looks something like that of my autistic bouncy DS, whose hair I have to snip in between bounces, while he acts horrified that I;m daring to cut his hair. Actually, his looks more even!

MissTakesOurMaid · 07/03/2017 23:58

Looks gorgeous curly, embrace it! :)
