How to wear trainers with jeans?

I have a couple of pairs of trainers which I'd love to wear with skinny jeans, but during the cold weather can I just leave my jeans full length and wear normal socks and keep warm?

Every photo I see on-line seems to show everyone wearing no socks (or possibly teeny tiny trainer socks) and a flash of their ankles.

I'm still in boots and feeling a bit chilly for this.

Would Converse and other types of trainers look wrong if I styled them with a view to keeping myself warm?!

DD home for the weekend and was wearing hers with 7/8 skinnies and bare ankles. Looked great. I'm still in Converse (with sheepskin lining!) or ankle boots and frilly socks at the moment, until it warms up a bit.

My ds has been wearing his Vans without any socks and they now stink so much that he has decided to bin them.

You know you can wash them in the washing machine?

I suppose it was the equivalent of exposing my wrists whereas previously I thought it would feel more like going out knickerless in a skirt on a freezing windy day!

Hmm, I'm still wearing gloves most days here. Quite happy to expose my ankles when it's warm but not yet. And since most people in this unfashionable corner of the country are still covering their ankles with their jeans I will too for the time being

I have no intention of being cold either but I've been watching how other people are handling this very important matter and I have to say, I'm starting to rather like a flash of sock. But it must be the narrowest of slivers, otherwise I can't get past Andy Stewart on the White Heather Club.

I agree that bare ankles can look great; also that the frivolity of S&B is one of the things that keeps me sane amongst loads of much more serious stuff in RL. But I also like a funky sock. I bought DH a pair of odd socks from Oybo for Christmas basically with the intention of wearing them myself. Really expensive for socks, but they make me happy and are designed to be seen in the gap between trainer and jean.

PickAChew · 05/03/2017 18:47

I can't do the bare ankles at this time of year. If my feet are cold, the rest of me is cold! At this time of year, I only take my socks off to cool myself down when I'm in the middle of a hot flush!

It might have been mild, today, but I wore my fleecy lined knee high boots!

MaQueen · 05/03/2017 18:59

Oh sweet Jesus...this is S&B. Surely we can fanny on about fashion minutiae as much as we want, yes???

'Life is too short'...it's perfectly to harbour a few thoughts about your appearance and lead a fairly worthwhile existence. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

I have been pondering the relative rigidity of Asos jeans Vs Uniqlo today (see other posts). But have also managed to re read a few chapters of Jane Eyre and have quite an interesting chat with DD1 about it, and give her a few pointers.

Ankle / knee high tights (aka pop socks) for me - with little trainer socks if necessary. Need to be careful to avoid them slipping down but no one has ever given me a second look (I don't think!)

Tanaqui · 05/03/2017 21:54

I like this look (and saw it with the fishnets today!), but it only seems to work with akinnies, and skinnies make my short legs look even shorter. Does anyone manage it with slim leg jeans? I do also have big feet, which doesn't help the proportions!

FunkinEll · 05/03/2017 21:59

Flash the socks. I have some sheer sparkly pairs from cos and &other stories that re perfect for showing.

I do it with non skinny jeans (I only own one pair of those). Straight leg, boyfriend etc., all array of loose fit. They do need a turn up though.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 05/03/2017 22:03

Knee high tights!

Best of both worlds: it looks like bare skin but they keep you warm

megletthesecond · 05/03/2017 22:08

Stripey socks here, nothing too bright. I just can't do the cold, besides I wax my legs in winter and would rather not display my fuzzy ankles.

My skinny jeans are fairly long though, it's a fairly smooth line down to my trainers.
