How to wear trainers with jeans?

I have a couple of pairs of trainers which I'd love to wear with skinny jeans, but during the cold weather can I just leave my jeans full length and wear normal socks and keep warm?

Every photo I see on-line seems to show everyone wearing no socks (or possibly teeny tiny trainer socks) and a flash of their ankles.

I'm still in boots and feeling a bit chilly for this.

Would Converse and other types of trainers look wrong if I styled them with a view to keeping myself warm?!

I had exposed ankles today with trainers and I survived and didn't catch frostbite Grin

QuestionableMouse · 04/03/2017 17:28

Honestly no one cares if you wear socks or no socks or if you have jeans on. Life's too short ffs.

Fairylea · 04/03/2017 17:36

I just can't get my head around the new bare ankle Jean thing. To me if it's cold enough to want to wear a jumper or a coat then it's cold enough not to have my ankles out. I am 36 though so maybe I am finally getting old! I just wear skinny jeans all the down with normal socks and whatever trainers or boots I like .

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 04/03/2017 17:37

S&B so I thought I'd ask.

I'm 38 and don't find my ankles get cold tbh as long as the rest of me is warm.

northerngirl71 · 04/03/2017 18:02

Just too chilly for that bare ankle brrrr!!

dudsville · 04/03/2017 18:04

I've stopped wearing trainers for this reason. The only look I can muster is with ankle skimmers and ankle socks and it's almost but not quite time for that yet!

EggsEleven · 04/03/2017 18:10

I'm talking ankle skimmers like this not cropped jeans half way up the leg.

Yes EggsEleven, exactly like that Smile

Questionable I think people might care if I had jeans on or not tbh Grin

My 19yo daughter would agree Delatron with totally ripped jeans! There's more rip than jean.

Delatron · 04/03/2017 20:13

I can only pull off small rips in jeans, when you see knee wrinkles through the rips you know it's time to reign it in!

At 19 she probably looks great
PurpleNurple69

Now I want those grey trainers in the photo'!

seafoodeatit · 04/03/2017 23:06

I've never given it much thought beyond : ankles on show = black socks, ankles not on show - mismatched socks.

wanderings · 05/03/2017 07:08

I don't do trainer socks; as soon as the spring arrives then it's trainers on my bare feet. Having done this since my teens I don't seem to experience any negative side-effects, although I do seem to be in a minority.

Craiconwithit · 05/03/2017 09:58

I tuck my socks into my jeans when I'm cleaning out the chickens and often forget to untuck them when I go shopping.
I'm sure it's a 'look'.

boobah23 · 05/03/2017 10:13

Am I weird because I don't get and can't relate to this conversation? I just wear jeans and I also wear socks, and sometimes I wear trainers, or other shoes.. Craiconwithit, I think your look sounds good. Smile

ItsNachoCheese · 05/03/2017 10:18

99% of the time i wear bootcut jeans and trainers as im not a fan of skinny jeans at all

EggsEleven · 05/03/2017 10:22

I prefer slim fitting straight leg jeans or skinnies that don't cling to the ankle with trainers. Skinnies that fit like jeggings make me look like a turnip with flat shoes.

Iamastonished · 05/03/2017 10:33

"I have a couple of pairs of trainers which I'd love to wear with skinny jeans, but during the cold weather can I just leave my jeans full length and wear normal socks and keep warm?"

I am not in the least bit fashionable and just can't get over the silliness of this question. I am with boobah on this, and can't relate to it at all.

I tend to wear chelsea boots at this time of year BTW. I hate being cold, and exposed ankles would make me freeze.

EggsEleven · 05/03/2017 11:01

I think it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask on the S&B board at this time of year Grin each to their own I guess.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 05/03/2017 11:02

OP here, there have been numerous questions regarding what way something can be worn, ankle boots and skinny jeans being a prime example. If you think it's a silly question to ask something similar (but about trainers) so be it. But this is the S&B board so it feels appropriate to me.

I have great trainer socks from M&S - they have rubber strips on so stay on your feet.

I can't bear visible socks with trainers.

My ds has been wearing his Vans without any socks and they now stink so much that he has decided to bin them.

29redshoes · 05/03/2017 14:38

Gah these "life's too short" posts are so unnecessary. If the OP had said she is too anxious to leave the house because she just can't get the sock/trainer/ankle gap/jean balance right and her life is basically ruined, fair enough. But she didn't. And this is S&B!

I like talking about fashion, some don't. Others are interested in things I find deathly boring. That's life, we're all different Smile

Floisme · 05/03/2017 14:54

Exactly. I think I may start popping up on the pet threads and telling them all to get a life.

I really like the bare ankle trend. They're the best part of my legs these days so I'm not turning down the opportunity show them off. I have to admit, I'm waiting for warmer weather but I've seen people flashing their socks with great aplomb.

taybert · 05/03/2017 17:08

It's S+B, the home of questions about unimportant things! Bare ankles I reckon. In fact, you've inspired me OP. I'm going to start next week and wallow in my vacuosity (which may not be a word, but I don't care, for my head is empty).
