Thank you all for all the suggestions. I have now ordered the discovery box from Atelier! I shall definitely look out the other suggestions too.

I think I need to be more focused, when in shops I tend to cover every available inch of flesh with different perfumes and realistically none of them are going to shine like that.

I'm really enjoying getting to know a little bit more about perfume and a bit more about what I really like.

Thank you! I shall keep lurking for any more tips.

VintagePerfumista · 08/04/2017 19:06

It's a slippery slope paper!

I have always known I loved perfume, but over the last few years, it's become something which defines me. I didn't know it was the more vintage stuff I was into either until I started playing around (ie spending lots of ££££s Grin)

MrsCocoa · 08/04/2017 20:51

Papersmile - I was wondering about some of the Hermes too, and Acqua di Parma Colonia?

L'Artisan's Seville a L''Aube goes on forever. Some of the Annick Goutal citruses are aromatic and also have reasonable staying power on my skin - Eau du Sud, Eau d'Hadrien. Am really liking vintage Eau de Rochas, another citrus aromatic - but haven't tried the current formulation. And he biggest zingiest, herbal orange I know is 4160's Shazam! - super energising.

Oh, and if you haven't come across the Turn and Sanchez, Perfumes -The A-Z Guide, you have a treat in store.

I'm determined to get a bottle of Bronze goddess this year (I've never given in to it before) but I think it's just too early yet.

Imscarlet · 08/04/2017 21:08

Papersmile, I have been following the Perfume threads for a few years and only recently started posting. I have found that my taste in perfume has completely changed since. I found myself seeking out perfumes mentioned anytime I'm in town to have a sniff and repeatedly spraying different smells and getting to know different notes and how they react to my own body chemistry has been so much fun! Its a journey!

OCSockOrphanage · 08/04/2017 21:11

Just popping in to say hi and wave. Have been on a cookery course (Indian homestyle) tooday, so I smell of ginger and garlic!

Pestilentialone · 08/04/2017 21:48

Mrs Cocoa I got SIL some L'Artisan's Seville a L''Aube for Christmas, I do hope she appreciated it. I also wish I had got a FB for myself. Sad
Busy day gardening and building things, need to have a really smelly bath. Might go for milk bubbles and a few sprays of tea for two. Alternatively, might browse the cupboard and surprise myself.

Pestilentialone · 08/04/2017 22:57

Added some Fragile for the tuberose. I smell amazing Grin

VintagePerfumista · 09/04/2017 09:02

A colleague had the newly formulated Eau de Rochas last summer- and it's a lovely bright fresh citrus. Not as in your face zingy as Eau du Sud etc.

Seville a' l'aube lasts for daaaaaays. I still don't know if I like it or not. It's one I want to like because I'm a Spain-holic. (I found a quote that said "I lived in Italy for so many years because I really wanted to live in Spain" which is basically me Grin) There's something though too overpowering in it. My colleague who normally loves everything I wear said "ooooh no, don't like that one". Hmm

It will be Chanel 19 today as am spending the day with the outlaws and the pseudo-classy SIL. Joy.

LesIncompetents · 09/04/2017 15:36

Thanks Green, both are on the mend now, just keeping everything crossed that DH and I avoid it!

Seville a L'Aube is my number one favourite for summer, I adore orange blossom and this for me is the best I've tried so far. Having said that, I do sometimes get a bit of a sweaty vibe from it (I'm sure it's the perfume and not me...)

It's such a beautiful day today that I think it calls for La Chasse aux Papillons, its a perfume made for summer garden parties, cucumber sandwiches and floaty tea dresses. Instead I've been weeding in jeans but at least I smell pretty Grin

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 09/04/2017 16:20

Paper, I have the Atelier cologne set on my wishlist, it was recommended to me as perfect for a hospital stay and having tried the bergamot one (gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!) I think it will be ideal. Have managed to dodge further hospital stays until now and am a little disappointed, as I can't really justify the purchase unless it's a special occasion. Like hospital Hmm

Les I hope you there is no further upchucking in your house. I feel confident that you have Zoflora on hand to deal with it Grin As this is a perfume thread may I say that I am very excited with the new limited edition Zoflora Spring one. God I am sad Blush

For some reason which I can't quite remember, I am saving my Seville sample to wear properly on Good Friday. There will definitely be some logic behind this, but it escapes me just at the moment Grin

SOTD Virgin Island Water and I don't care. It's sunny. That's good enough. I am basically just a human sized mojito in a dress today!

MrsCocoa · 09/04/2017 19:50

Think you can get away with any time during Holy Week AD Wink

Have had a lovely day in Be Careful What You Wish For - a beautiful, seductive fruit oudh that was even more luscious when warmed by today's sun.

OP posts:
papersmile · 09/04/2017 21:25

Disappearing - I'll let you know how I get on with the samples when they arrive. Maybe not having to have a hospital stay deserves a celebration?
A human-sized mojito in a dress sounds fantastic!

Vintage - I'm really intrigued by Eau du sud now too. It's on the list.

GreenPolishToGo · 09/04/2017 21:25

VP, Paper I do hope you enjoy the Ateliers as much as I do. And VP I would tell you to buy shoes instead but they are expensive, boring and usually quite painful in comparison with lovely perfumes. Anyway it would be rank hypocrisy on my part.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 10/04/2017 10:00

SOTD is 4160's Goddess of Love and Perfume, which is too fruity for my taste. I'm working my way back through my samples to see if my taste has evolved while I wait for new samples to arrive.

They stock Atelier Cologne in Harvey Nicks in Edinburgh so I am resolutely not buying the sample set! It sounds great though, I might wander up there to sniff at lunchtime.

Does anyone know if I can buy a decant/purse spray of LADDM anywhere? I can't afford a full bottle and a wedding perfume and my sample is nearly finished.

Calminaqualm · 10/04/2017 11:16

I have ordered the Atelier sample set. It seemed such a bargain and I shall enjoy comparing notes with you all!

I have been using L'Artisan's Mure et Musc. It is such a classy scent, with a sweet perfumed blackberry, not in any way sharp, and musk running all the way through. It's not strong, but lasts for hours. In an effort to find another blackberry-noted perfume, I bought Britney Spears' Rocker Femme for £8 in a pound shop. It's very pleasant although the blackberry is hardly noticeable, and I shall enjoy using it. It was somewhat galling, though, to find that the family noticed, and complimented me on that one, and not the Mure et Musc!

teta · 10/04/2017 12:12

adisappearingdreamofyesterday I also love Zoflora, but my dh hates anything perfumed. My perfume obsessions extend to my laundry detergent.Ecover smells of pine, sage and green and is my current favourite along with my love of all things green. The Ecover delicate wash smells of Water lilies and is divine.
I also went through a phase of clean musks like Mfk's Aqua Universalis and used to use lots of the clean smelling white Comfort to reinforce this cleanliness. My kids could always rescue their school uniform from lost property by the smell!

The Atelier set is brilliant and so reasonable.I loved several at the time but they seemed expensive.I think the prices seem to be more reasonable now or maybe I've become used to the cost of niche perfumes.I have a bottle of Trefle Pur and it's so refreshing and green.

Fleur du matin was worn yesterday as I'm addicted to all things Galbanam at the moment and Nerolia Nianca for today.

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 10/04/2017 15:32

Glad to know there actually was a reason behind the Good Friday/Seville thing! I shall save it so I have something to look forward to Grin

I knew someone at least would have a love of Zoflora Wink my DH also dislikes it and has likened it to "cheap aftershave from the market". Clearly he knows nothing anyway, as his favourite smell is the smell of bleach Hmm

Mary I don't have LADDM I am afraid, I do buy samples from EBay occasionally but I check out the sellers to make sure they seem genuine etc.

I am sitting on my hands with the Atelier set - ironically I got a letter this very morning for a May hospital trip. This clearly is a sign I should buy said set immediately....

Calm I am liking the sound of the Britney Blushbut £8 in the pound shop Isn't that all wrong? I'm a bit of a sucker for a cheap yet horrifically powerful perfume, preferably in a very tasteless bottle. Dare I confess in this hallowed thread I am a secret Milton Lloyd lover - under £5 a bottle and an aerosol type nozzle - what's not to like?!

I am in a absolutely foul slightly grumpy mood this morning so SOTD is Chanel no 5 (EP). I'm still grumpy but I smell better!

Imscarlet · 10/04/2017 16:13

I got a spray of Mon Guerlain today. Not what I expected at all. It's a pretty inoffensive scent, all Lavender and vanilla. There is something in Guerlain that I'm not overly taken with, I have My Insolence and there is a similar note in it that I don't like. I must google to see what that is. Is vanilla having a bit of a moment right now? It seems to be in everything I have recently sprayed on myself. Anyway, I don't think I would be bothered to try it again, much less buy a full bottle.

LesIncompetents · 10/04/2017 16:24

I don't have any Zoflora Shock I'll have to add it to the next online shop. DS1 is still not great but at least is not being sick now. DS2 is back to normal and can't resist being an annoyance to his poor brother, oh the joys.

Talking of cheapies, the Body Shop has a sale on at the moment AND an online code for an extra 40% off. I've just ordered the Fuji Green Tea cologne and body lotion, Italian Summer Fig and Polynesian Island Tiare perfumes all for just over £20 (free delivery over £20.) I've been after the fig one for a while and the other two are blind buys but at that price they're worth a gamble. I like taking their scents on holiday as if anything happens to them, they're easy and cheap to replace!

All this talk of Seville a L'Aube inspired me to reach for it this morning, it's lasted all day and is just beautiful. The last wafts on my arm remind me of orange buttercream icing, yum.

MrsCocoa · 10/04/2017 16:30

Mary - SotD SNAP! I'm not sure about whether the dryish myrrh notes are my thing.

Calmina - yes, Mure et Musc is lovely - especially the magical lemon note that appears then disappears.

OP posts:
Calminaqualm · 10/04/2017 16:39

Disappearing, yes the Britney was £8 in Poundland. They also had her Circus Fantasy and Maui Fantasy but I think one's enough for the time being! They had others too, Beyoncé, David Beckham etc but I have no idea what they're like. They were all kept behind the counter, I expect on account of them being expensive items (eight times the normal price for a pound shop!).

The cheap shops do sometimes have treasures. My local Savers still has some rather dusty boxes of Prada Infusion d'Iris on the top shelf, much cheaper than the normal department store price.

Pestilentialone · 10/04/2017 16:51

I may have just bought a sample set from January scent project.
Also a FB of Eclat d'arpege and some Pal Zileri Cuoio, which smells like a cross between Tea for two and TF Tobacco Vanille.
SOTD is absolutely everything, found a lovely shop just bursting with perfume. A quick scrub in Waitrose and SOTD is Eclat with undertones of Oud, Perris Oud Imperial is persistent.
I need to burn my CC and think of shoes.

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/04/2017 17:56

SOTD is FM Hiver. I think I am getting the cold, so it may be the last thing I smell for a while. Gah.
