Dental implants

I just wanted to say if anyone's been told they need implants I had three put in today and it's fantastic x

Whats the pricing like, if you dont mind me asking.. Was it painful?

I ll tell you the whole story if OK. I had a dental bridge but it failed and I lost 3 teeth as a result ( my dentist told me the dentist who put it on should never have as all they do is rot the good teeth that hold it) . Anyways I was left with a horrific gap , I cried and cried then had a plate made which was awful . It moved and made me gag all the time , in fact it made me feel really low so I had to do implants . In reality I had lost a few teeth over the years ( I didn't look after them when young ), so saw a specialist who said I needed at least 3@ £6000 , more crying ! But a good friend recommended a surgery 100 miles away they had used who did it for 3500. It was a long drawn out process over about 5 appointments. I had no pain at all ( the dentist I cannot recommend high enough) but the hammering ( yes sorry) was quite scary but not hideous I wore headphones and just trusted him in what he said he was doing) . Today after all this I hv lovely teeth and am soooo glad I did it as the plate was the most awful thing I've ever had . If you need it do it is my advice

I wear a plate and am so self conscious. Would love to have this done but my dentist has advised I'd need some kind of test done on the bones first to see if the implants would even be suitable. This would cost hundreds before I'd even started. Can I ask where about in the country you are? Glad you're pleased with them. I know how awful wearing a plate is.

I have implants and am very happy them. I live in the UK. I had good bone density so did not need the pre treatment test. The treatment was over several months and stages, but all went smoothly. It did not hurt at all (and I have a very low pain threshold).

I live in essex but went to Kent to get it done. The only bone density test I had was the full xray which was about 250

No pain but be prepared for hammering , that was only one session. I would highly recommend it x

Rubbish bone density. Billions of operations here, bone grafts, failed implants, implants in wrong place.... And now I have a plate that attaches to implants!!!

It was free on NHS as I'm a special case. But after all that I still don't have functioning teeth.

Oh that's awful Harry. Why so bad ?

I had some retained milk teeth which I have lost recently. I now have a big gap and am thinking of it? How painful is it having the pins put in initially?

Harry my fear is that the implants would fail too. What you went through sounds horrific.

My plate is at the front. Every dentist I see tells me how natural it looks and how you could never tell but I don't believe them. It's an awful thing and I'm desperate to at least try and see if I can have implants.

Well all I can say is that I too hated the plate and that implants hv been a success here . I'm also truthful when I say no pain ! I think if u feel like that try a consultation

Waxlyrically, I'm going through implant treatment for exactly this reason.

Mine has been uneventful - they anaesthetise you, so the initial placement was a bit bloody, but not at all painful. I didn't need a bone graft & my implant didn't need to be buried below the gum line as I have good dental hygiene, saving me on needing to have the implant re-exposed, so it's been very easy for me. The most painful thing has been the cost!

I am tempted to save up as my Maryland bridge has just fallen out. I've just got a gap each side from where I had no adult teeth come through. You can't really see unless I open mouth v wide. It seems a lot of money for something that is not a massive issue for me though.

Can you please tell me about the bone density you had op? How much is the minimum that they wanted you to have?

I went to The Toothpaste in Kent. I was recommended there by a friend who's young daughter fell and smashed her front teeth out . They are truly amazing and I can tell you I was scared , also I paid in stages which was good . Honestly I can't tell you how lovely and professional they are but also nearly half the price of my own area

Ps the dentist tells you from his scan whether you hv enough bone ( if not the implant won't hold ) , I had a bone graft , that means they added some animal bone product to support me growing some ( sounds awful but I was unaware of when he did it .

I would love some implants but the cost has always put me off, thanks so much for posting.

I braved the first pin insertion and sinus tap surgery for my two yesterday! It didn't hurt (other than the injections - I am a baby though!) just felt a bit brutal - lots of pulling, pushing and hammering. It's now a bit sore and achy but nothing normal painkillers can't handle. I was given antibiotics to take as a precaution and stitched up - so no nasty open wounds to handle. I have just dared a look today and it's not nearly as gory as I feared - it just looks black! It was also done really quickly in and out in less than an hour. So far so good!

I just got my implant crown put on on saturday now. The worst part of the whole process had to be taking the precautionary anti-b's, they made me feel horrendous!
