Had hair coloured yesterday and asked for this...

Wanted warmth, as feeling dowdy and altogether "grey".

So, I called in today and obviously, it was very busy. I told her I feel overall, ashy-grey. Asked if she could warm me up a bit. She said she could put a toner over the whole thing but when I asked whether it'd wash out she said "well, yes it fades, the more it's washed". So I asked her if she could put some of the browny/brunette looking shade in? "Yes, of course!" (So why the F**k didn't you do that, when I came in with this picture. I'm going in on Tuesday afternoon. Hope she doesn't make me a red head now!

(Nothing wrong with red hair.....just not on me!)

Blimey, you already used the magic hair oil!

Let us know how it turns out, and did you ask them about the condition of it too? Its so hard to complain at a hairdressers though.

I hope you get it sorted op, like other pp have said you are a very attractive woman with beautiful hair and skin. I hope you get a good result!

Eliza22 · 20/02/2017 18:42

Titania, you're right, it's hard to complain as such, because I've been going there for so long, I feel quite awkward but I don't want grey, dry hair, so needs must.

Yes, will update when it's corrected 😊

Updating (for anyone who's interested).

Went back. The colourist was a bit non-plussed. She put some "deeper brown" through the top and I bought the recommended conditioner because I told her I couldn't get a comb through it. To be honest, it looked no different to me. It still looked predominantly grey. Like so...

In desperation last night, I slapped on some of DH's John Frieda Deeper Brunette conditioner and left it on for 20 mins. This is a conditioner only. It's used in conjunction with the same shampoo so, it's meant to bring out the brunette and "warm" your brown shades. I was a bit worried really but thought, it'll wash out, if it goes wrong.

This is the result of my "at home-bollocks-it can't-look-any-worse-than-grey hair-and-must-be-more-shiny" thought process 😊

I'm pleased with my £6 hair conditioner.

I will NOT be going back to that hairdresser.

Wow! The second picture looks fantastic, completely different hair. Amazing that's the result from a £6 bottle of conditioner rather than a professional.. Glad you got it sorted

Eliza22 · 23/02/2017 13:39

I'm ever so chuffed. It was a dog walking friend who said suggested trying a "toner" on it but I buy all that Brunette stuff for DH and just used a tiny bit. It's got its shine back, too!

OP posts:
penny39 · 23/02/2017 13:47

It does looks really shiny and the colour is gorgeous. Now just to find a hairdresser who can do that for you next time Smile

NomDePlumeReloaded · 23/02/2017 13:47

The second pic looks great. The first, wow. They really ballsed up, didn't they. Baffling that the colourist, who is supposed to be an expert at this stuff , got it so, so wrong Confused. Your 'new' hair looks great (not a million miles from your original, lovely do), it's just a shame you've spent all this time, money and stress on getting the same hair as you started with!

BellonaBelladonna · 23/02/2017 14:21

The second pic looks great. You're really stunning OP. Great bone structure. Very classy looking.

I might have to invest in some John Frieda!

Eliza22 · 23/02/2017 14:44

😉Won't need to go to the hairdressers for a bit, anyway!

Wow! Thats from a $6 bottle of conditioner?? (sorry ,don't have the pound key on my keyboard)

amazing, you must be so happy. It looks fab

Eliza22 · 23/02/2017 17:54

Thanks Belladonna. My face has gotten longer and longer, over the years and I "grew" cheekbones 😊 I thank my dad!

Wella SP hair repair mask is really good

garlicandsapphire · 23/02/2017 19:39

They've not done a great job. It looks like they've only done one colour highlights and they should've done them in thicker stripes, otherwise the lighter tone can a bit dowdy or grey.

They should have done a number of colours to give the effect from the first picture - with richer and warmer tones as well as the lighter colour - to give it more warmth and depth. I normally have 3 colours for my half head highlights. Did they discuss the colour choices with you before doing it? I'm also wondering what's with it being drier - that's not normal. Usually after hair colour your hair should be glossier and better conditioned than usual.

I'd go somewhere else that you trust or who someone recommends (whose hair you like).

Sad to say, its not going to change with time! You look great by the way! You should be kinder to yourself (and sack the colourist).

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 23/02/2017 19:46

The difference since from what you done is fab! That hairdressers job was terrible completely the wrong tone used.

MamaHanji · 23/02/2017 20:27

I don't have any suggestions sorry, but I just wanted to say, your hair before looked lovely (doesn't help now) and you look incredible for 54! Actually not just for 54. You look early 40's max. And a good early 40's too! Not a tired 40. Just wanted to comment as you may feel 'haggard' but you look fantastic! Be kind to yourself. I'm 12 weeks post birth of my second baby and this time I'm trying to be proud of my body instead of hating the sag, flab and scars. It's really working too!

MamaHanji · 23/02/2017 20:28

Commented before seeing your latest photos. Hair looks brilliant again!

mumofthemonsters808 · 23/02/2017 20:53

You certainly don't look haggard Eliza, you'd give me a run for my money and I'm 45.

Eliza22 · 23/02/2017 21:11

Thanks all for the gee up in the self confidence department. Yeah, since using the brunette conditioner, I feel better. My makeup shades look better too. The grey really drained me.

Garlic I think it was bleach. I can only assume she'd forgotten entirely what I'd asked for and the photo I'd brought in, on my iPad. I will not go there again, under any circumstances. She suggested a conditioner which I have so, will slather that all over.

As a hairdresser I would always prefer my clients came back which should be corrected free. However it's not dissimilar to the picture but yr hair is thinner than that in the picture so it would never be exactly the same . Ultimately you hv your hair not the models, it can never be the same .

CaraAspen · 23/02/2017 21:55

No, it can never be the same, that much is obvious, but the mess the OP was left with is beyond bad.
Good result, OP. Shame you had to do it yourself in the end but well done you.

Eliza22 · 23/02/2017 22:32

Molly, I made that exact observation to the colourist and further upthread. I'm in my mid 50's and NOT a model. The actual hair model is probably under 20/25. But, what the professional, specialist colourist did, didn't resemble the colour; didn't even give any hint of the photo.

The fact that it was ostensibly ash grey (and I didn't go into the salon like that) for me, says that either she wasn't capable of that or just mucked it up. If she felt my hair wouldn't do "that", she ought to have guided me toward an alternative and I could have made an informed choice. The very fact that I managed to get a better/more realistic colour from a shop bought tube of conditioner, tells me that in this instance, she got it badly wrong. I don't feel there's any excuse for that and for that reason, I won't let her near my head again.

TitaniasCloset · 01/03/2017 21:19

Well done for sorting it out yourself, you look lovely once again!

Hairdresser is useless and they should have either sorted it or given you your money back, their loss, you had been a loyal customer. Good to see you looking gorgeous again.

thegoodnameshadgone · 04/03/2017 21:32

Is there a new pic of the new new hair?

Eliza22 · 08/03/2017 08:31

Yep. My DIY job...
