Yes they are picky -f-ers. It's like they are placing pfb children frankly.

MI, bastards. Make sure you get on their wick by requesting feedback. I'd be very interested to see the excuses. Can't tell you how many jobs I've been overlooked for and a 26 year old with little experience get the post. Mostly in competency interview situations which I hate.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 21/02/2017 12:46

Bastards indeed MI. You are clearly too good for them or they are duplicitous fuckers who had already earmarked the job for someone and were going through the motions...
How is poor cat?

GiddyGiddyGoat · 21/02/2017 12:47

Ta for clarifying that we are out on the town on Friday!
Now I know I will definitely be there - but probably not for preloading on d and s! Ta for organising us all Monty (and for organising me CV).

Rosebag · 21/02/2017 13:26

I am wondering what kind of crazy mixed up world we live in where eminently well qualified professionals don't even get shortlisted (on even long listed) for a role they could do with their hands tied behind their backs....and what now ?.? Cat protection social worker do gooders , refusing good and kindly homes on the basis of a lorry or two ? They'd refuse the garden of Eden presumably on account of the risk of a serpent.... MI the troublemaker in me would be inclined to call them up and ask for feedback on your application, like Crem says.

CointreauVersial · 21/02/2017 13:32

Crem - re: Belfast - will definitely be in touch if there is even the merest possibility we can meet up for a swift beverage. We won't be there long, though - heading over the border to Co Roscommon to PIL's.

motherinferior · 21/02/2017 13:53

I actually cannot face the rejection again but am truly bemused. Really bemused.

herbaceous · 21/02/2017 13:55

Is this the one with the on-side chief exec? How bizarre.

I too have a 'no shortlisting' horror for that TA job in the school where I always fail to get jobs. This is the most humiliating yet - at least I got interviews before.

Rosebag · 21/02/2017 13:57

Herbs did you follow up that lead I sent you?

motherinferior · 21/02/2017 13:58

No, chief exec one is in the bag - should be a tidy sum each month for a year. WHEN it comes through.

hattymattie · 21/02/2017 14:08

Plumber here - skirting boards off and much muttering going on.

Way back when I used to work in HR, competency based interviews were just coming in. I am not convinced by them, they are too formulaic. DD1 missed quite a few opportunities until she realised that she could learn them off by heart. It probably is OK for graduate recruitement but for higher level posts I cannot see that it is very effective.

hattymattie · 21/02/2017 14:11

Herbs - you would be brilliant in our local bilingual primary - you'd have to come and live in France though.

I fear there is much water under the floor and our parquet is going to have go come up even though it's a wall leak.

MrsWobble3 · 21/02/2017 14:35

Oh Hattie, sounds like what happened to my parents - they ended up having half the ground floor parquet lifted to sort out a leak from a cracked water pipe. Fortunately an inflow rather than a drain so the water was clean but still a lot of mess. My dad had a bit of an argument with the insurance company at the start about whether it was covered - apparently cracks below ground were but not above. But once resolved they were fantastic and paid for redecoration etc as well as mending the pipe. Hopefully your problem isn't as bad - it took weeks to dry the floor out and my ancient parents were having to tiptoe around on scaffold boards.

motherinferior · 21/02/2017 14:36

But I HAD the competencies. I had every single thing they wanted. They wanted someone who had worked in charity comms or been a journalist - I have done both. They wanted experience of writing and 'placing' case studies - I've written for everyone from the Mail on homeless women to the Guardian to god knows how many specialist mags. They wanted experience of collating case studies: I set up the entire system for doing this at a major charity. They wanted experience of older people's issues; I've just spent three years editing a mag for a charity that covers v similar ground to this one.

I had done Every Single Thing. And not just in passing.

wordassociationfootball · 21/02/2017 14:42

That's so rubbish MI Angry

Wish DD2 would go to sleep at 9 Monty.

Crem, do you have any Spanish thoughts for me?

hattymattie · 21/02/2017 14:43

I would definitely get feedback MI - you should at least have had an interview.

Mrs W - I am wondering if the insurance will cover this - we have a tiled floor under the parquet and although there is obviously water underneath, I cannot see anything untoward and am just hoping it will go away. The thought of digging up the floor doesn't bear thinking about.

Cremolafoam · 21/02/2017 15:05

Waf oh i forgot! Will have a thinky waf!

So optician says i have a cataract and wants me 'on the list! Asap. No bloody wonder i have swirly vision( which I have attributed to low blood sugar or hypothyroidism or pernicious anaemia or JUST BEING CREPEY.
Ffs

herbaceous · 21/02/2017 15:10

Good Lord Crem. You have the worst luck, and the most extensive list of crepey ailments. But imagine what life will be like once the cataract is gone! So clear! So sharp! So horribly vivid...

MI - whenever I fail to get a job (i.e. all the time) I have to put it down to internal politics, my face not fitting, being too experienced and thus too scary, etc, rather than any other factor, as it's too depressing. These factors may also happen to be true.

Rose - I dug about a bit at institute in question, but no such position was advertised. I then ran out of steam, and into kittens.

motherinferior · 21/02/2017 15:17

Crem, think of it as free laser surgery. It is a really straightforward day op. You will be
FINE.

motherinferior · 21/02/2017 15:27

I just decided to look at a fat and weight thread. Warning: do not do this if you wish to retain a shred of self-worth.

hattymattie · 21/02/2017 15:37

Crem - my MiL actually had her vision corrected at the same time as her cataract removed. So agree - free laser surgery.

Plumber still here and moaning whilst brandishing a flame throwing contraption (I think it's for welding).

Rosebag · 21/02/2017 15:39

Herbs don't worry about what's advertised. The head of curriculum told DH that they always want to hear from competent teachers and are paying premium rates. There is appaz someone starting today who is teaching English for DD's group but there are other opportunities. Contact the guy...

Ach Crem Whatever next? But agree that loads of peeps I know who have had the op...very quick and successful.

MI Step away from the fatness threads...

Rosebag · 21/02/2017 15:40

Hattie I hope they can sort it...I hate having workmen in the house...sympathies.

motherinferior · 21/02/2017 16:43

Yes, they give you a new (artificial) lens - you get to choose short or long sight. GrinI can send you helpful stuff I've written but the basic message is Don't Worry.

bigTillyMint · 21/02/2017 17:25

Yes, cataract ops are easy peasy - DM had both hers done a while ago. And then needed glasses againConfused

MI/Herbs, sorry about the non-jobs.

Hatty, don't blame you for not wanting your floor pulled up. When we had our kitchen done, and enormous guy came and chiselled the slate tiles off - what a palava, poor man.

Well, today seems to have been less stressful. Was better for me as I planned for a disaster, so was prepared! Just need to get to the end of the week so we can focus back on getting him better.

Lalsy · 21/02/2017 17:26

Crem, double pah about crepey ailment bingo but good it can be sorted?

Herbs, would learning officer type jobs in arts/museums/heritage be of any interest? And what the hell about that school?

MI how weird. Were you interviewed? To add to the list, I bunged In a quick application for a short contract thing recently, not even had acknowledgement. i wasn't exactly experienced for the main bit but had learned similar quickly, and was over qualifie for everything else. harrumph.

Were people being nasty on the thread MI?
