my dd is leaving school this year and is going the prom. im freaking out a bit as the dresses are so expensive, i dont want to buy her one off the internet incase its not as expected or doesn't fit properly.
im going take her shopping in a few weeks and hopefully pick up something suitable that doesnt look cheap. most of her friends are having dresses costing £400+ Shock

i dont know why im posting, just panicking a bit i guess

What about ChiChi London? My friend's daughter chose one for her prom and looked beautiful. House of Fraser stock the brand.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/02/2017 19:07

My sister bought one off eBay from China and it was perfect.

PurpleDaisies · 13/02/2017 19:08

What is your budget? You might find an Internet dress plus a seamstress isn't as expensive as you might think.

Astro55 · 13/02/2017 19:11

Or there are plenty of secondhand dresses that have been worn for a couple of hours - and nobody else will have it!

What shape/size is she/coloring etc .... elwhat does she like style wise

My daughter had a lovely dress from Quiz in Debenhams. I think it was about £45 in one of their special event weekends. She looked fab and had a great time. Good luck with the shopping.

pieceofpurplesky · 13/02/2017 19:22

TK max has some real bargains, you could hire one? Simple seems to be the way forward these days.

TowerRose · 13/02/2017 20:31

Why don't you look at occasion dresses in Debenhams?

Laiste · 13/02/2017 20:34

The colours ! (I'll go away after this one Grin)

Does she like slinky or ball gown type dresses? If ballgown perhaps look on eBay

Iamastonished · 13/02/2017 20:42

Another vote for Debenhams. I got DD's dress there last year for £65. I really don't see the point in splashing out £400 for a dress that will only be worn once. DD doesn't do princessy or long dresses, so hers was a strappy knee length dress.

anyoldname76 · 13/02/2017 21:31

thanks everyone, shes a size 6/8 and 5ft2, she wants a long dress but nothing too princessy, my budget is about £100 but that includes shoes and bag etc, going have a look at everything suggested.

Loved the piñk first one on amazon - but maybe not in pink!

Some of those a relovely but a bit Disney princess!!

Try a few on for shape/style then hit EBay for a bargain - ask about what the neck line is called - what the cut is! Fabric etc of ones she likes

MrsJayy · 13/02/2017 21:38

Have a look at House of Fraser online:

navy or red lace

Jane Norman £40 in sale

lace and beads lovely back
£19 in sale

Just filter the dresses by maxi style and it will bring up 700+ options, lots of which are currently reduced and available in size 6/8.

marmiteloversunite · 14/02/2017 00:54

If you look online at Little Mistress I think they do a petite range and are in the £60 ish area.

Joanie do some really pretty dresses - affordable enough to take to seamstress to get adjusted if not quite right fit (they start at size 8) and some lovely accessories eg
