Apple shapes: tops to wear with skinnies?

hunans · 10/02/2017 18:51

I have decent legs but a thick waist and hips. I need some new tops which are slightly longer in length (i.e don't finish on my hips) and not fitted but not shapeless. To be worn with my faithful black skinnies.

Any inspiration?

Thanks muchly Flowers

kristina I live in leggings knee high boots and tunic tops with a jersey blazer for work. I always get comments about how good my legs are. although maybe this is because the rest of me looks awful! I'm dreading summer when my work outfits are not weather appropriate. Here's hoping I've lost the last 2 stone I've been trying to shift by then

Lucked · 14/02/2017 12:55

Can I ask a question about batwing tops, are they not really uncomfortable with coats and blazers? I am assuming the arms all bunch up and the material gets pulled if you pop a blazer on top.

Kr1stina · 14/02/2017 13:22

Lucked - they are if they are thick sweatshirt type fabric. But most tops like this are knitted jersey , lightweight cotton knit or fine wool as it drapes better.

I only have one or two that are thicker and I wear then with a different style of jacket, one that's looser on the arms , because they don't work with a tight blazer or leather jacket.

Lucked · 14/02/2017 13:38

Thanks, I might look at one for summer.

RealHouswifeofBury · 14/02/2017 18:37

I've been on a depressing swimwear hunt today

Brontebiscuits · 14/02/2017 18:50

Oh dear. Been there RealHousewife. Care to share?

RealHouswifeofBury · 14/02/2017 18:53

Could not find anything on the high street.
Going to have a look on line

Brontebiscuits · 14/02/2017 18:58

Swimwear is my worst nightmare. I've found in the past (if you're going for a bikini) that mixing and matching works best. So plain top (halter neck works quite well if you have broad shoulders) and more patterned bottoms, even with some side-ties or something that accentuates your hips.

.

If I wore batwing sleeves I'd look like a hexagon with legs.

I am wearing this top today

www.riverisland.com/women/tops/cami--sleeveless-tops/black-print-t-bar-cami-top-693284

With a top underneath and a blazer and jeans. Looks nice and very flattering on. They have it on lots of colours so think I will get a few of them as great for spring/ summer.

ElspethFlashman · 15/02/2017 11:15

That's nice. Camis are very flattering but hard to find ones you can wear a bra with.

Indigo at M&S have some good stuff at the moment by the way. Couple of tops I've my eye on.

SparklyLeprechaun · 15/02/2017 11:38

I bought this in uniqlo and I love it. Perfect for this weather, now if they made something thinner for spring I would be a very happy apple.

@realhousewifeofbury for the last few years I have found M&Co great for swimwear. Love their tankinis which often have nice floaty layered bits for covering up a tummy.

hunans · 15/02/2017 13:40

I always turn to the M&S super suck-it-all-in cossies for swimwear. After two babies I can't afford not to have a swimming costume with some scaffolding.

Shall have a look in M&co and M&S. thanks

user1471583707 · 15/02/2017 19:32

Have had some nice swimming costumes and rankings from Sainsbury's which hold you in a bit.

user1471583707 · 15/02/2017 19:33

Rankings = tankini!

Kr1stina · 16/02/2017 16:37

sparkly I linked to that tunic upthread and everyone ignores me 😨😰😭

< sulks>

Glad you like it - I have the navy one . Did you see they have a similar style for spring here called Milano ribbed cut sewn 3/4 sleeve

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-milano-ribbed-cut-sewn-34-sleeve-t-190393.html

It is medium weight so good for a British spring / summer not a Spanish Summer.

SpaghettiMeatballs · 16/02/2017 16:46

Did anyone get the Boden swing top? How long was it? I'm 5,7

Cherrypie32 · 16/02/2017 20:49

Which one is swing top? Link goes just to whole site. I have several Boden tops so might be able to help you.

Kr1stina · 16/02/2017 21:06

Boden usually have the garment measurements on their website. Click on 'size guide' and scroll down past ' how to measure '.

CamdenTownie · 16/02/2017 21:22

Can anyone point me in the right direction re sizes of the Amie joggers from Hush? I'm a size 12 currently, I love skinnies but struggle as I need a very slim leg (prob size 6) but larger waist, matalan April skinny jeans are great but I'm in between a 10 & 12 so they don't really work for me at the moment, I'm hoping to lose 1/2 stone and fit into the 10 soon.

SparklyLeprechaun · 16/02/2017 23:32

Ooh, thanks Kr1stina, I hadn't seen that spring top. Off to Uniqlo again

hunans · 17/02/2017 05:49

camden You will need XS or S. I'm a 16 and wear a M! They come up HUGE.
