Help my dd14 with her skin (pics)

Dd is nearly 14 and has extremely dry sensitive skin, she gets few spots (usually around time of month) and has few blackheads.

She is really getting fed up with it and wants to sort out the dry patches but like I say it's extremely sensitive and she find virtually everything stings.

Can anyone recommend anything cleanser/moisturiser to sort this out? Or anything I can get through doctor if need be?

Hopefully nothing to mega expensive but if it works I will pay

Aveeno? Oat based so quite soothing. Non greasy.

My DD1 (11) uses Freederm face wash, the sensitive skin variation, and seems to be getting on ok with it. Family history of eczema etc, no issues so far.

Do they do a range for face? I was under the impression it was for body/bath etc

Trilogy rosehip oil? Lovely stuff and v gentle .

Her skin looks pretty good IMO!

Liz Earle is good, but pricey. Don't know how it is for sensitive skin.

For a lower budget Superdrug also have good own ranges, some fragrance free, and they don't test on animals either.

Does she drink lots of water and eat veg?

Gentle exfoliator for dry winter skin?

A dab of Aveeno will sort that out.

I sometimes get really patchy skin and use a slap a layer of Vaseline on overnight. Seems to work miracles. In the day I use hydrocortisone when I start to get a flare up and that also helps :)

Liz Earle is great for sensitive skin

I have similar dry patches so I rub in a few drops of Neal's Yard Rose Facial Oil at night and use Sanctuary Oil Facewash in the morning followed by Liz Earle moisturiser. It seems to work!

Yes she suffers with dry skin/eczema all over and get bad patches on arms and legs especially this time of year and only thing that sorts it is steroid cream

Drinks water/fruit etc just have extremely sensitive cream, tried the Superdrug sensitive range and it stings her as does E45

Can anyone advise what aveeno to try?

Think I will get a bath one to as both her and her baby sister suffer and nothing the doctor prescribed so far is helping

Does she have a fair amount of sugar in her diet? These kind of skin conditions often improve drastically if you go from a high sugar diet to a really low sugar one. Don't want to give a teenager eating issues, but if you are largely in charge of her diet, it could he worth a try, maybe without her even knowing. Takes about a week if to know if diet helps.

We had success with Aveeno with a green lid. It's not the regular green lid one, it's in a smaller tube and is a bit more expensive. I think it's colloidal.

I can't use Liz Earle at all anymore, it brought me out in a rash but I do swear by Elizabeth Arden 8 hr protectant cream, they do an unfragranced one and it's a godsend. I have hypersensitive skin yet get dry lips and forehead and it's brilliant. You can get it quite cheaply via sites like allbeauty.com. It's very similar to Vaseline in texture. And Aveeno is good too.

My skin is like your daughters, very sensitive and dry but spot prone with hormones. I use beta then of a night on very dry parts and aveno baby or light moisturiser everyday. I also use aveno on my body and has meant I haven't had to use a steroid cream in nearly 2 years .

Another vote for Liz Earle. Your daughter's beautiful. If she splashes her face with warm water it helps the cream travel and she'll only needs use a little blob. Massage it in for a minute or so concentrating on the troubled bits, rinse like made and then buff with a towel, or buff away with a hot flannel. My daughter had similar problems and she's fine now. I use if too and get a lot less flaky patches and spots on my chin (menopausal) Upping her water, fruit and veg intake, cutting back sugar will help too. Finish off with the (can't remember name) toners mentioned in the beauty threads. They sort the flaky bits and congestion. As for moisturiser we use the Estee Lauder one which smells of cucumber. It has an spf. doesn't seem to clog the pores like some.

Dd2 was similar. Used diprobase in the bath followed by diprobase gel (not cream). Had to do the bath first as that meant the gel soaked in better. Also look at possibly reducing dairy (but make sure you research the alternatives for calcium etc) and can still only use fairy wadhing liquid. Dd is now 19 and it's pretty much gone although she does still sometimes get flare ups

You could try the Miamoo range-you can order it online. I used it for dd when she was a baby as a general nappy cream but It's meant to be great for eczema etc. It's good for adults too-I like it as a hand cream in winter. Not that dear so could be worth a shot.

I have very sensitive skin, prone to dryness and flakiness, or burning if I try something new which disagrees. The best solution I've ever found is to dot sudocrem onto the worst bits and blend in with Vaseline. Makes your skin very shiny and white looking, I leave it overnight and in the morning my skin is soothed and soft. It's a very cost effective solution as well.

Does she use soap? If I use any soaps/cleansers/toners/ most moisturisers I get extremely dry skin.

Double base cream is good for those legs and can be used on the face. It leaves a slight protective film, no stinging. You can get on prescription. For the face I would use something gentle and mildly exfoliating. The hot muslin cloth method, Eve Lom do an expensive one but Superdrug have lone that's a fraction of the price and pretty good. Do that then moisturise. Benefit do a nice mousturiser, the thicker one in a pot. Again, it has a protective film. I would also echo what someone upthread suggested and minimise dairy.

You can put actual oats in the bath (in an old pair of tights or something) which can be soothing. As for the eldest dd, I think she looks like she has beautiful skin! I would also try vaseline at night and stop using anything else (including soap) on her face
