Baukjen are super good at the long, waisted top thing. Not cheap but lasts for ages! Also had good luck in Zara over the years but they are a bit hit and miss, depending on what's fashionable!

Warehouse have had a few tops/jumpers that tie at the waist over the past couple of seasons in various colours. I find them really flattering.

Both Zara and ASOS have some "origami" style tops in currently which are quite fitted at the waist. this sort of thing

Just seen this in the guardian- could it be that we hourglasses will be spoilt for choice on the high street soon?

Yes! Our time has come (again!) Does anyone remember the season that brought us the Roland Mouret Galaxy dress? I have the Vogue mags from the time specifically because it was all about the waist; a real femme fatale look.

Which reminds me, a really high end gorgeous designer who gets our curves is Lena Hoschek - a brilliant waist/hip ratio. Pricey but stunning. Also, be warned the sizing runs large (like many German/Austrian designers) - I am an XS.

SimplyNigella · 03/03/2017 20:23

That sounds fab. It reminds me of Bombshell London who do fabulous shapes for curves, I wore one of their black wrap style tops today and felt gorgeous.

Hello fellow hourglass types! I'm looking for something to wear for my 40th birthday party - drinks at home, so nothing too elaborate, but I want to look effortlessly stylish and a bit glam. I'm a size 14, dark hair, look best in jewel colours. Any ideas?

KatharinaRosalie · 05/03/2017 18:47

ooh Stainless that's a gorgeous top

Gah81 · 05/03/2017 19:35

sarahbanshee the Baukjen Darton dress is my go-to for events. Sucks you in, is sexy yet demure and comes in a gorgeous range of colours.

Weebleswobbles · 14/03/2017 20:21

I'm sticking with vintage 50s suits and dresses for the time being - they knew how to design for hourglasses. It's the first time I've ever found things which fit from top to bottom without any alteration!

I can also thoroughly recommend Vivien of Holloway (esp their pencil skirts - they cut to vintage patterns so go in and out e.g. 24 waist/36 hips, 26 waist/38 hips e.g. www.vivienofholloway.com/women-c70/skirts-c13/pencil-skirt-cherry-p2540)

Joining and reviving the thread. Clue's in the username. Had a style consultation last week and came out as hourglass with winter colours. In serious need of some flattering clothes so making notes from the thread and going to do some ordering. Great thread ladies. I've completely lost my way and feel like I'm need to find my style! I'm 41 and 5'5. Size 12.

Hourglasses - where the heck are you finding summer dresses?

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 16/06/2017 12:42

I have got this Boden ruched dress and it is insanely flattering (I'm size 12/14, 5'4"):

BlackadderBells · 16/06/2017 13:41

I love it @MonkeyGoneToHeaven ! Thanks! Sadly not in my size but some of the other ruched dresses are so I've ordered - big thanks

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 16/06/2017 14:19

Glad you like it BlackadderBells - I'm wearing my black one at work at the moment with a jacket and heels but I'd quite happily wear it to the beach with sandals as well. I've got my eye on the green one with the crossover top as well.
