ah I am so glad I found this thread! my people! I also struggle between figure hugging and looking NSFW and/or wearing something looser but looking gigantic. ffs. I'm also trying to transition my wardrobe to more grown up and polished but I'm failing... I buy lots of clothes but still feel like I have nothing to wear that I feel good in.

I'm 5'3, 32-26-32. I've got two hush ruched skirts and I really like them, very easy to dress for winter. If anyone has any idea what top to wear with them in summer I'm all ears.

I also like the Boden ruched dresses very flattering and nice thick fabric so its too much.

another fan of Asos jeans - I like the lisbon mid waist style and new look jeggings are also good. I'm all about v-neck tshirts too.

BumbleNova · 14/02/2017 14:43

also have discovered the lovely looking off the shoulder tops look fecking terrible on me. makes me look so wide which is shame.

Bensyster · 14/02/2017 20:12

I am all about the jacket - plain tops interesting jackets and coats. Jackets that suit - I like bomber style - clearly not zipped up over the boobs. In fact straight lapels work better on me - especially if I need a cardigan. I have a biker but I rarely wear it, it's not comfortable but it suits me. I am tall, have narrow shoulders, a long neck, big chest, small waist and big hips/thighs. I wear polo necks, they suit me despite people saying they are a no no!

SexNamesRFab · 15/02/2017 09:18

The Boden skirt arrived and looks great with navy opaques. Bargain at £9.80 with a voucher. I'm trying to resist buying it again in another colour (camel), as that's a bad habit of mine. Thanks for the recommendation.

I struggle as my shoulders are as wide as my hips, so I sometimes feel like a American footballer Blush

PumpingRSI · 15/02/2017 13:33

Help! I return to work soon and need some basics, mostly trousers and a skirt or dress. I don't like black as it washes me out, but where do I get things that ruddy fit, look smart without being overdone and won't cost a fortune?! Everything seems loose, boxy or skinny!!! Blue tailored trousers? Harem bottoms? I dunno..

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/02/2017 16:56

Does anyone have any recsfor boyfriend/girlfriend jeans? I really want a pair, but any big enough of the thighs are massive everywhere else :(

I'm trying to wean myself off super skinnies, but can't find a replacement. Had high hopes for Topshop "Mom" jeans, but sadly, they weren't for me.

BumbleNova · 15/02/2017 17:09

topshop lucas jeans are brilliant, i have worn them to death. in fact I must buy another pair because I have been living in them.

Pumping I mostly stick to stretchy fabrics since it fits me better - like boden and banana republic for workwear basics.

Gah81 · 16/02/2017 12:13

Hi Nellyphants - just seen this! I haven't tried the dresses there, kind of assumed they would be too baggy around the waist! I do find their tops run large everywhere though, if that helps?

Phylliswig even on my casual days I am quite formal (it just suits me better) but have you thought about a tweed/tweed material jacket? Joules do some brilliant riding jackets - super nipped in! Zara also do some good tweed-pattern cotton structured jackets.

Gah81 · 16/02/2017 12:16

Hairspray have you thought about a long-sleeved dress with a jacket? Or a blouse, tucked into a pencil skirt with a jacket on top? And one of the skirt/jacket/blouse (or a necklace) being a statement piece?

Nellyphants · 16/02/2017 13:46

Gah thanks for that. I've ordered 2 dresses from fold. A 8 & a 10. I'll let you know how I get on with them.

PumpingRSI · 17/02/2017 08:44

An update. I made an absolute killing yesterday in tailored trousers in H&M. Slim style in a size up and nice shirts. I also found some lovely black floaty wide (but not too ott) trousers with elasticated waist to tuck in nicely. Tailored trousers, I'm going to structured tops maybe tucked in a la Holly Willoughby and slouchy trouser with blouses top or white fitted shirt a la V Beckham with pumps. Go with various nipped in jackets and cropped blazers I own. In my head at least. Now to find the perfect shirt dress that isn't too short or a sack.

HairsprayBabe · 17/02/2017 08:54

Nice one Pumping

I am buying this dress

www.oliverbonas.com/fashion/lea-cord-pinafore-dress#selection=size:6__498;color:Black__61

After payday (Monday) fits lovely and I can use it for work and causal. Been looking for a nice pinafore since they came back in again but they all seem so shapeless!

Weebleswobbles · 17/02/2017 21:23

I'm quite taken by that dress hairspray!

HairsprayBabe · 21/02/2017 08:29

'tis lush! I just ordered it Grin

Mcakes · 21/02/2017 20:23

Oooh Hairspray. Good find. I wasn't sure at first but on closer inspection I reckon tis a good un Grin

HairsprayBabe · 22/02/2017 08:05

I'll post a pic of me in it - sans head when it arrives.

I just discovered New Look have discontinued the jeans I love, I am properly heartbroken!

mylongawaitedlife · 24/02/2017 20:22

marking place, hello everyone
5'3" hourglass here, 28GG bust, currently overweight, dressing was easy at 8-9 stone and size 8-10, not so at 10 stone and size 12
despite being an hourglass my weight sits on my tummy so some styles look ridiculous at the moment

PhyllisWig · 24/02/2017 20:45

I found a grey biker in Warehouse - fits beautifully

SimplyNigella · 24/02/2017 21:40

I have found my people! It is so nice to find other people bemoaning the lack of v necks in the shops right now, I frequently find dresses and tops that would be perfect if it weren't for the high neckline.

I am still losing my toddler baby weight which isn't helping matters, especially as I am having to wear longer tops with my pencil skirts to hide my tummy.

Weebleswobbles · 24/02/2017 21:56

Ok so it's pay day today and armed with my list of wow colours, I went on the kettlewell site and ordered some tops and scarves.

Was pleased because the tops came in v-necks, scoop necks and square necks. I'll report back when they arrive

Phyllis - sounds great! Can you post a pic or a link?

Ifonlyiweretaller · 25/02/2017 11:49

I ordered from Kettlewell recently (I'm a Spring). A bit hit & miss for me personally - of 10 items i chose, 6 went back as I appear to be between sizes. I don't 'love' the items I kept, just feel they will be useful. Felt quite middle aged in some of the stuff. They are not cheap either.
Customer service is very good though, returns refunded within days.

Gah81 · 25/02/2017 14:24

I tried some Kettlewell tops as LOVE the colours for an Autumn but them back as their sizing seems to run large. Am an 8/10 but the smallest size tops were too large (?!)

abc12345 · 25/02/2017 20:58

Hi hourglass ladies, I'm loving this thread!

Can you help me with tshirts and jumpers that are long (to go with skinny jeans) but have a waist. Anything without a waist looks highly unflattering on me!

nickEcave · 25/02/2017 21:40

I agree that Kettlewell can be very hit and miss. I'm under 5 foot and really like their ruched skirt and the merino faux wrap jumper but all the other tops I've ever tried have been far too long for my short frame and some of the trousers and skirts look very frumpy.
