Dear God M&S seriously now?

I have £35 in gift vouchers to spend so thought I'd peruse the new stuff

What is this monstrosity??

If I'm a flamboyant type looking for a flamenco style dress to dance the night away in - why oh why would I want it in Khaki??

Dear God M&S seriously now?

I bought that dress. It actually looks quite nice on.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/02/2017 19:33

Really garnet? Really? I am sure you are lovely but that dress is horrific. Mind no one tries to camp in you if you stand still.

JennyHolzersGhost · 04/02/2017 19:34

Hilariously I just got a 'help us improve!' pop-up when I hit the link posted up-thread. M&S my only advice to help you improve is to read all the many many threads on MN about how awful you are.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 04/02/2017 19:38

Hideous

Has anyone else received the latest Next magazine/catalogue? There are some real shockers in it, especially the footwear and some atrocious jeans. In fact there is very little in it that I would willingly buy!

Dear God M&S seriously now?
Gwynfluff · 04/02/2017 19:39

Some great stuff in Autograph range at the moment. Could look at that instead! Definitely streamlined!

FurryLittleTwerp · 04/02/2017 19:43

I could imagine wearing the first trousers if I felt a bit manic but never ever with the matching jacket - like Double Denim on speed.

The dress is horrible - sorry, Garnet. A garnet colour would've been nicer.

Garnethair · 04/02/2017 19:43

Giddy - no of course I didn't! It's vile!! Grin

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/02/2017 19:45

I beg to disagree re Autograph. Current offerings include this hideous top a la Birds Of A Feather and this "statement". Bloody hell they are awful.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/02/2017 19:46

Phew Garnet. As you were!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/02/2017 19:47

Have to confess I do quite fancy these leopard trainers

EvansOvalPies · 04/02/2017 19:48

I haven't bought a single thing from either M&S or Next for at least a whole year (not even underwear or food). Next homewares are total crap, on all counts (IME), M&S bras drive me crazy with whatever thread they're using to stitch - so scratchy, I had to recycle the last three I bought. And a pair of their jeans had a bit of crackly cellophane-type paper trapped in the waistband when it was sewn up. Took me a while to figure out why I was rustling every time I moved. Yet they don't listen to comments from their customers to improve the quality.

Bah!

FurryLittleTwerp · 04/02/2017 19:51

Evans agree about scratchy bras - aargh - improved by attacking the label at the back with a penknife, I found Hmm

TreeTop7 · 04/02/2017 19:52

That fuschia thing is 100% viscose. Horrid.

FurryLittleTwerp · 04/02/2017 19:55

Giddy I've had sleeves like that & they drove me fucking berserk, dangling in everything. Three-quarter for me now, most of the time.

The other top looks like it has been designed for a joke - you know, a bit like office types daring each other to use a certain word or phrase in a presentation. Unfortunately in this case the manager liked it

The trainers - not for me, but then M&S shoes I find too narrow.

Mapless · 04/02/2017 19:56

That dress needs to be ankle length, with a mid-neck lace collar, oh and maybe a buslte and button up boots...

M and S always seem to be copying Boden to me...but always a bit well off..

TheFirstMrsDV · 04/02/2017 20:00

I was thinking about starting a thread about some of Sainbury's new stuff but its seems apt to mention them here.
I love Sainsbos for clothes but oh my lawd there are some shockers in this lot.
They too have gone for the flounce. They seem to think that casual wear can be improved by adding flumphy cuffs and peplums.
WHY?
If you want a easy wear sweatshirt or teeshirt why would you really think 'oh yes, much improved by weird bits of material that will need ironing and will flap around my elbows whilst I am cleaning the loo'

EvansOvalPies · 04/02/2017 20:01

Grin Furry - I cut out the labels, then figured out it was the thread used in the fastening area, you know, the hooks and eyes. I've sat for long periods of time with a nail file, trying to smooth the irritating bit, to no avail.

For goodness' sake, M&S - this is a garment worn next to your skin for about 12 hours in a day - it really does need to be extremely comfortable (and they're not the cheapest - averaging £16-£18 each x 7 (one for each day of the week) = around £120. Get it together, buyers.

Blankscreen · 04/02/2017 20:05

How do they keep going? When ever I go into an M&S it's pretty much deserted.

It's never on my radar for me and I only go in there for food or to get.some pants for dd who is 4.

I'm 38 and I can remember it was my mums fail safe shop as I was growing up Everything came from M&S and I mean everything. My mum no longer goes in there as it's so bloody awful

Spudlet · 04/02/2017 20:09

It's just too much! It's like they have heard that (for example) flounces are in, so have applied ALL THE FLOUNCES to every square inch of every garment. Ditto patterns, lace, ribbons etc. It's all so fussy.

FurryLittleTwerp · 04/02/2017 20:11

Evans did you try wearing them inside-out?! That might be the answer in future but you'd have to hack off the pretty little bow

ChristianGreysAnatomy · 04/02/2017 20:14

I work near an m&s in my new job. If I ever have a bad morning (which happens slightly too often), I go for a wander round m&s at lunchtime and have a brilliant laugh and go back feeling that life is a comedy, not a tragedy.

EvansOvalPies · 04/02/2017 20:14

Furry - No - I never did think of that - genius!!!! I'll give it a go tomorrow with a currently troublesome one and get back to you. (After I've figured out how to do it up inside out, of course)!! Grin I have visions of me doing it up, then wriggling into it from the feet up. Should be fun

Fink · 04/02/2017 20:22

If you have vouchers to spend at M&S, they have some lovely soft dressing gowns. And tights. Everyone always needs more tights, don't they? I'd steer away from most of the non-sleepwear clothes.

MrsBlennerhassett · 04/02/2017 20:25

I think i could have dealt with the top of it if it had been straight at the bottom and shorter.....
As is it looks like someone accidently dyed their curtains by putting their washing in with some army clothing, then the dog ate them while they were in the basket, and then threw them up half digested over a model.
