Very moisturising shower gel recommendations please?

Poor ds2 has got his roaccutane prescription from the dermatology consultant today....along with warnings of dry skin, chapped lips, nosebleeds, dry eyes and joint pain .
He's 16 and has had horrendous acne for three or more years now, and it's making him utterly miserable - he has pushed for this for months, and the consultant himself said it was a fairly extreme case, so felt roaccutane was the best and most appropriate treatment. Sorry for sidetracking, but my mum thinks it's ridiculous that I've "put him on this awful drug" so I'm a bit defensive today!
Anyway, I've got some good moisturiser for his face, lip balm and artificial tears, and consultant says paracetamol will be fine in the event of joint pain, but while I was cleaning the shower I suddenly thought that a decent shower gel with lots of moisturiser might be a good idea too. The only one I can think of is Dove, and that's only because of all the adverts on tv, so I wondered if anyone here had any better ideas please?
I don't mind if it's a bit spendy - I just want him to feel ok.

L'Occitane she's butter shower cream is good and a neutral fragrance so not too girly.

So sorry about your son, I sympathise, my son also suffers from acne it makes them self conscious doesn't it

Dd who suffers with eczema and a sore bottom if we bath with any shower gel etc has hydromol liquid parrafin to wash in. If we dont use this stuff then she gets a sore bottom within 2 days.

It does clean the skin as i sometimes use it myself

My son took Roaccutane and I worried about side effects. While there were a few, like dry lips, it really changed his life. If Aveeno do a shower gel their range is good for dry skin

Thank you all. I think I'll have a look for the L'Occitane one - it sounds most up his street.
That's really good to hear sandgrown, that's what I'm hoping for here too.

Another one here for Aveeno. I love it .
They also do a shower oil which sort of transforms into a milky liquid - it smells very oaty which isn't that bad and it's lovely and soothing .
Hope he gets a fast result

Aveeno do great shower and bath products. Use for my DS and his eczema. Fragrance free too so perfect for boys.

We all use dove in our family. Either shower gel or the soap. The soap are usually very economical too.

Just thinking you can use aqueous cream as a shower gel too.

OP I get dry, itchy skin on my body. Dr. Bronner might be worth a go. It's a natural soap made out of a variety of different oils. It makes your skin feel squeaky clean for the first few days but then it turns insanely smooth. m.feelunique.com/brands/dr-bronner/organic-soaps

Otherwise I am using a v lovely Elemental Herbology one at the minute but not sure a teen ds would appreciate the fragrance!

I have not tried Aveeno and I bet the l'occitane one is really good but I'll throw another vote in for Dr Bronners, it's right nice and it has some good masculine smells if he's the sort of lad who rates the 'Lynx effect' for good attention!

Aww bless him how awful for him. Definitely recommend the Averno body wash. Plus I think e45 do one. I hope the treatment works for him. Dd had cystic acne for years until she went on the Yasmin contraceptive pill, but there's no gentle equivalent for boys is there, it seems to be roaccutane or nothing. I'm expecting ds to start with it at puberty as his dad had it very badly and ds is a ball of testosterone . I wouldn't have the faintest idea how to handle in in a boy. Fingers crossed for him.

Aveeno fan too and I'm an eczema sufferer and I have an allergy to specific chemicals commonly found in shampoo and gels etc. The aveeno stuff is very very good.

Nivea and Olay also do "in shower" body lotion. After washing, step out from under the shower spray, rub the lotion all over and then rinse off, it's great as it is quick and saves the faff of moisturizing afterwards, this may work for him.

You can buy this, but it available on prescription and probably the most sensible thing to use.

This is the L'Occitane almond shower stuff it's basically amond smell....not too bad at all

you can often get good deals on a refill plus bottle, and it lasts ages....I only use a tiny squoosh and you get really good coverage

I do use the aveeno stuff too, but that is goopier, smells like porridge and doesn't go as far, you need a good couple of sloshes to get covered

Try to avoid anything with SLS in it - it is a skin irritant and dries the skin.

Yes to ... is quite funky and available in boots.

I am following this closely as I have very dry skin and would love a moisturising shower gel.

I hope your son gets the results he wants from roaccutane. Acne is so debilitating. Monitor him carefully (and your post makes it clear you will) and hopefully he will be looking and feeling better soon.

My poor DD was plagued with acne from age 8. She then suffered from depression and anorexia in her late teens so roaccutane was not appropriate for her. She worked and saved and went to a private dermatologist who somehow sorted her skin out. I look at her now, a healthy weight, smooth, glowing skin, developing her career, out with her mates and it makes me cry with joy (discreetly of course). I hope you had your DS get to that point very soon.

Psoriasis sufferer here. I love L'occitane almond and Dove Shea butter and vanilla. I really like the matching Dove lotion with shea butter and vanilla. OP, aside from the moisturising shower gel, your DS needs to get into the habit of applying body lotion after each shower. If he can't, then maybe apply a body oil after his shower and before towelling or use a body lotion in a spray (vaseline intensive care do one).

Another vote for L'Occitane almond oil, it wards off itchy dry patches caused by medication for me. I have recently discovered that both ( large rugby playing) DS have been using it happily too😡

Thank you all so much! I've been out for a wee while this evening so I didn't realise til now that I'd had so many responses.
It's great to know that he has choices, and I'm confident that I can get something that he'll like now.
Ds is normally pretty stoic, but his acne has been getting him down for a while - im so hoping that this helps sort it out, even though it is the nuclear option!

I will upvote the L'Occitane almond thing. I have really really dry skin, lots of allergies, eczema etc and find it really good Also any moisturiser will be fine to use in the shower as a body wash - E45 etc.
