Poor ds2 has got his roaccutane prescription from the dermatology consultant today....along with warnings of dry skin, chapped lips, nosebleeds, dry eyes and joint pain Shock.
He's 16 and has had horrendous acne for three or more years now, and it's making him utterly miserable - he has pushed for this for months, and the consultant himself said it was a fairly extreme case, so felt roaccutane was the best and most appropriate treatment. Sorry for sidetracking, but my mum thinks it's ridiculous that I've "put him on this awful drug" so I'm a bit defensive today!
Anyway, I've got some good moisturiser for his face, lip balm and artificial tears, and consultant says paracetamol will be fine in the event of joint pain, but while I was cleaning the shower I suddenly thought that a decent shower gel with lots of moisturiser might be a good idea too. The only one I can think of is Dove, and that's only because of all the adverts on tv, so I wondered if anyone here had any better ideas please?
I don't mind if it's a bit spendy - I just want him to feel ok.

Jason organic coconut body wash. No SLS or foaming irritants. The fragrance isn't like artificial coconut scents so not too girly and it's only £9ish for a huge bottle that's 880ml.
It was the only stuff I could use during bad eczema flare ups.

Aveeno is good or something like hydromol if he's really dry but he might not be. Some people have really bad side effects but I've been on it a while now and my skin is now what I'd call normal/dry ie there are dry patches but it isn't the arid cracked landscape I was lead to believe it might be. It's worth noting that if he does have bad side effects on the higher doses then a longer stint on a lower dose seems to work just as well.

Well done for getting him seen and sorted, acne can be horrible and roaccutane is a "wonder drug" for many.

Aveeno shower oil is marvellous

Dove is rubbish - it may be 1/3 moisturising cream but it's also 2/3 SLS-laden bog standard shower gel.

Avoid anything with SLS in it like the plague. Aveeno has a tiny bit but still good. Otherwise Eucerin, E45 do SLS free shower gels. Or head to the green/organic section as they are usually SLS free too. I really like Earth Friendly Baby shower gel and Dr Salz.

I've had 2 courses of roacutane unfortunately but it really does work! I had a 2nd course because they took me off dianette after the 1st &'it just happened all over again. Been off the pill 4.5 years now. Skin isn't great but nothing like how it was in my teens.

Vaseline for up his nose - apply with a cotton bud.

E45 moisturiser for all over - get it on perscription.

A cream lip mpisturiser will absorb while I going lot of balms just sat on my cracked lips. I used a benefit one but it's been discontinued.

I used to use a normal moisturising shower cream then cover a poffle in baby oil & Put it all over my body then pat dry.

Good luck!
