Thread 4

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, 3, and 4 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer to previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

I have Ghostery on top of Adblock which blocks those trackers and cookies automatically (and as a consequence I don't see the skimlinks unless I switch both off), not very nice to places like MN but I don't like the financial model and for the reasons Aurora mentioned with price adjustments (it's not just travel sites, there are a few fashion sites too).

The links mostly show up on desktop (and slowly on mobile I believe, or delayed). I really don't like that it's run by a third party with access to a lot of data. I honestly don't know what they'll do to stop that third party from collecting data on prolific posters on here that result in high sales and then selling that information on to interested parties (because that is their business model) and them approaching those potentially influential posters through the PM system offering free stuff (in the hopes of them reccing something) or just paying them outright for posting things. I'm sure in very small incidences this is already happening without the data feed. I realise I'm being madly cynical here but this is pretty much how it started with bloggers and I have noticed a huge increase of monitoring from companies on these boards in the last few months. It was very nice of Toast to offer a poster here a reimbursement of her order as she was having a hard time personally (although it was a mere single sentence mentioning it and regardless the poster totally deserved it) but I didn't buy for one second that the Toast representative 'just happened' to stumble across the thread accidentally and that they didn't also do it to gain some positive PR from the situation.

The Cezanne isn't a moisturiser, Aurora, it really is a Japanese lotion/hydrating toner (which can also be used for the face) and I will use either oil or body lotion on top to seal it in. I am simply venturing into layering my body skincare now too Grin.

Dulci, I always find it best to just announce "I'm here for the P50" and knock the wind out of him while he shakes his head and complains that's what everyone comes for. You might get off lightly by playing the tourist act and claiming you left yours at home the horror and need it ASAP! If all else fails, just mention we sent you and Aurora will unleash her boys on the shop in search of Pokemon monsters if he doesn't treat you well Halo.

We need a magic emohi

AuroraPolaris · 10/02/2017 22:56

Yeah I'm sure that Pokémon is still sitting on that bizarre retinol jar Grin
Must update you, though, that the boys claim Pokémon Go is now passé Hmm
And last but not least, there is a very nice shoe shop (also with a very ehhhmmm persuasive owner) next to DD

And no bo you are not being cynical, just realistic WinkAngry

AuroraPolaris · 10/02/2017 23:00

Yeah I need more emohis in general... feels a bit sad now with so little choice Sad
(auto correct now recognizes emohi Grin)

So many posts to catch up on!

Before I do, I caught sight of myself in a shop loo today and my hair colour looked quite nice. Blush Not the colour I wanted but I may possibly have over reacted. Ahem.

EnidButton · 11/02/2017 00:39

I still play Pokemon. Blush And that's my helpful contribution to the thread tonight. It's been a loooong day.

GayParee · 11/02/2017 06:41

Hello

I am seriously in awe of you guys and would be grateful if you could look at my routine and see what's missing. I think I also need to sort out a decent primer and foundation, but that's another thread.

I have dehydrated skin (it was a huge revelation you discover it was this not dry) that is prone to congestion and the odd cystic spot on my neck/jawline

41

Discolouration/dullness

AM cleanse, pixi glow, serum (Superdrug Simply Pure serum), Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion, Clinique Superdefense SPF

PM BS Camomile Butter, Vichy or Caudalie second cleanse, pixi glow/nip+fab pad, then either Olay Night Elixir r and Redermic R, EL Advanced Night Repair and Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance or Clinique Turnaround cream

Make up - tend to use medium coverage and not use primer etc, currently Vitalumiere Aqua (shade too paid) Bourjois City Radiance or Healthy Mix serum foundation. Need to learn how to cover panda eyes too

Occasional treatments -garnier sheet mask/Gatineau Radiance gommage and Gatineau Aqua memory of Dermalogica mask

Disastrous things- anything nivea/astral/l'oreal/garnier/oil cleansing/just water/ anything with a really thick texture

Layering is working really well for me, as it's using acids, and understanding the difference between dry and dehydrated skin, all the products for dry skin were clogging mine and making it worse,

No current health concerns

I am happy to spend £20-50 on an item, nearly all mine are bought from eBay so I can try first as my skin can be grumpy and sensitive to smells

I am mainly wanting to find a decent SPF and find a way to try and manage my patches of discolouration that are becoming ever more apparent on my cheeks. Also my neck is in a right state despite being treated the same but anything too rich causes horrible cystic spots in the creases. Finally I do nothing to my eyes, I find using many products make the eye area spotty, but I clearly need to do something.

Thank you if you are still reading Grin

mintmagnummm · 11/02/2017 07:59

bo how does this sound for a potential routine for me....

am dermalogica ultracalming cleanser, hylamide sub q, Superdrug simply pure serum, dermalogica active moist.

pm dermalogica ultra calming cleanser (used twice for double cleanse), hylamide subq, niod naap (used every other night), Superdrug simply pure serum, dermalogica active moist.????

yongnian · 11/02/2017 09:00

Erm yes a real horse...which I already have 3 of....and have no utter need or justification for having another of....talk me down!!!!!
actually horse grease is fabulously insulating and quite possibly the most occlusive ingredient on the entire planet, save perhaps whale blubber
bo dear, I meant pictures of the products for our fake news insta page...but you know, post as the mood takes you!!

hollinhurst84 · 11/02/2017 10:16

No no no no. No more horses Grin
So what's it like then? Grin

Elixiam · 11/02/2017 11:18

Oh dear 😕 What ingredients cause breakouts then for future reference?

The swan cream is actually really lovely and def brightening which is something I was interested in as my skin has a tendency to sallowness. I feel like I don't need make up after using it. I don't have sensitive skin so maybe that's why I haven't had any problems yet but will be on the lookout thanks.

mintmagnummm · 11/02/2017 11:57

Just bought 2 bottles of the Superdrug serum as it was buy one get one 1/2 price, now need to decide whether to order the niod naap Hmm bo I need you lol

yongnian · 11/02/2017 12:03

Thanks for the stern talking down!! Grin anyway, its the full sister of one of my horses (who is a beauty and a total love)......but have a massive bill to come on my lorry so can't go there aaaaagggghhhhh
she also popped up out of the blue 5 years to the day I bought her brother so it's obviously fate
Must wrench my mind back to skincare, it's a far less eye-wateringly expensive habit than horses.... now where's that tk maxx The Concealer

user1471503992 · 11/02/2017 12:22

Yongnian, how do you manage to exercise three horses, let alone four? Or do you mostly ride one? do you do competitions? Can we have pics of them, please? I grew up with horses but live in a city with no chance of ever affording a place with land round here and no jobs for me further afield.

user1471503992 · 11/02/2017 12:26

I went riding for the first time in years quite recently and was sharply reminded how lovely it is, but I already have an expensive hobby and I can't afford to get back into riding! Also I hate riding schools.

Ooohhh hollin - what a beauty! Details please.
user1471 - one is my childrens' pony (so ridden whenever and is happy like that, will probably break to drive at some point when youngest has outgrown) one is an unrideable field ornament (but lovely and has other valuable roles in life) and one is a youngster (just about still) so is generally brought back into work Spring/Summer then turned away over winter. They all live out 24/7 on 9 acres of lovely mountain so they're perfectly happy with their lot, I think!
They're rough beasties in comparison to hollins Grin
Nope, don't compete, don't do horsey world much at all really, just love being with my pony boys up the mountain.
Pix to follow, being nagged to bits by pesky toddler

hollinhurst84 · 11/02/2017 13:27

She's ID X TB, ancient Grin well 23 but acts like a 3yo, schooling and has competed at Medium. Hacks and jumps too

yongnian · 11/02/2017 14:01

Wow she's in fab condition for her age, must be all the dr bronners! Grin lovely useful mix, I was thinking Hanoverian ish or something with her head....she sounds great.

My boys 1 2 and 3 ridden pic was his second ever time ridden

Gorgeous! What amazing scenery too, especially for hacking
Yes she is like a mountain goat, only shod fronts and just keeps going.... And going. Obviously she's a mare so she knows better than me about everything Hmm
Her temper tantrums are epic Grin

yongnian · 11/02/2017 14:09

Haha I've only ever owned geldings though they did share at one point with an elderly mare who was....challenging...I was reflecting on this very point earlier when considering this new mare....!!

hollinhurst84 · 11/02/2017 14:14

Don't do it. Some days all I want is a 20m circle, I get half pass, rein back, extended trot and then a foot stamping grunting tantrum while I'm sobbing "just a circle dammit" Grin
The head groom will ride anything. Except her Hmm

yongnian · 11/02/2017 14:26

Hmm yes, the elderly mare was quite honestly one of the most exasperating creatures I've ever met!! I think she might actually have been a pony mule goat hybrid...needless to say my boys adored her!!!

AuroraPolaris · 11/02/2017 16:06

Hi GayParee - a few preliminary questions:

Which cleanser do you use in the AM?
Which Vichy and Caudelie cleansers do you use?
Why are you using two Clinique moisturizers on top of each other? The Clinique SD is a moisturizer not a proper SPF (sorry Wink).
By odd cystic spot do you mean acne or truly the hormonal odd spot at that time of the month?
What exactly do you mean by discoloration?
You list a lot of PM products but it's a bit hard to understand how you are rotating them...

GayParee · 11/02/2017 16:33

Sorry, I'm not sore of their names. The Vichy is a three in one cleansing lotion/cream that I flannel off, same for the Caudalie, they are creamy rather than watery.

The double layer of Clinique is what I was recommended, I don't find either enough on their own but work well together. I've some Clarins en route to me and I'll try that directly on serum.

Re spots truly are cystic beasts, they flare up to gobstopper size with no squeezable head then reduce back down after a week or so to much smaller lumps under the skin. Whilst there is a hormonal element oil and soap guarantee to bring them out.

Finally re PM I tend to do three day rotation, redermic one day, turnaround second and dermalogica third.

Thanks

Oh yes discolouration is I guess dun spots, permanent freckle type blotches on cheekbones.

FreeButtonBee · 11/02/2017 16:37

So thought I'd update on my foray into Liberty's for P50 today. I almost bottled it (!!) but the dude was looking pretty lonely and actually he was very nice. I rocked up and stared with 'I've been using the p50w for a while now (thanks pupsiecola!) and need a new bottle but not sure which version to go for'. Which was the right attitude I think. We had a brief chat about my skin type (dry, never get spots, needs all the moisture in the world) and he Rec'd the p50v version which I was happy with. We also bonded over spf (he uses biore too!) and I got a couple of samples thrown in to try. So all in all joy a scary experience but probs best if you go with a positive approach.

Happy to send a few samples of the v version of anyone wants to pm me. Better for older/dryer skin so maybe not the right thing for most of the posters on this thread.
