Thread 2

Thread 3

Thread 4

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, 3, and 4 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer to previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Mint look at the Living Proof product I linked to up a few posts. It's quite expensive but it's free from nasties as far as I can tell and if anyone tells me otherwise I shall put fingers in ears.

mintmagnummm · 03/02/2017 16:18

Ok pupsie I'll look at that one now thanks. Still can't find a shamp n cond I like either arrrrrrrrgh

mintmagnummm · 03/02/2017 16:21

Ooooh I'm liking the look of that living proof one pupsie I wonder if they stock that product in my local m&s, will have to have a little look soon!!

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 17:32

Ah Aurora , I'm looking for an oil for a first cleanse. €20 ish. Though I am thinking of splurging on the famous lotus oil, as I have a voucher for BTs (posh Dublin store) burning a hole in my pocket!

Gosh Bo , is the NMF silicony? Full ingredients here:

Aqua (Water), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glucose, Maltose, Fructose, Trehalose, Sodium PCA, PCA, Sodium Lactate, Urea, Allantoin, Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid, Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Lecithin, Triolein, Tocopherol, Carbomer, Isoceteth-20, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Pentylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin

I have drifted towards it on basis they are skin identical type ingredients (according to the TO bumpf) but perhaps I am being fooled, wouldn't be the first time!) The squalane is in stock now too and is 100% squalane. Says it is vg for hydration. Maybe that would be better? Really just need to top up my TO order to hit the free postage. Am getting the retinol and one of the weaker Vit Cs - Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%.

Am easy on the galactomyces, happy to split the one you are interested in. Happy to buy and send onto you if you like, just pm me, no worries if you are still pondering! I can always just buy the CosRx one on amazon. It's in my basket waiting for it to fill up enough to justify an order. Smile

FizzyBubbly · 03/02/2017 18:06

Aha Wilting! I knew someone from here was from Dublin! I'm going the week after next, is there anywhere you'd recommend? Will be spending one day at the designer outlet (Kilverne village??) then two days in the city

JDSTER · 03/02/2017 19:13

wilting got lotus oil for Christmas. Happy with it. Suitably fragrant and oil like for night time use!

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2017 19:31

NMF I don't find silicone like at all. It's not slippery, I'm useless at describing! Doesn't absorb instantly, you have to rub in

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2017 19:33

Posted too soon! When I say rub in, it does that thing where it turns quite white on your skin before it absorbs? I don't have anything similar to compare it too. Lightweight but I don't like the having to rub in thing

JDSTER · 03/02/2017 20:56

After Hollins description of NMF it reminded me that ' Hot and Flashy' did a review of a few TO products including NMF and she said the same thing about it not absorbing. The link to the video is a few pages back I think or just search on her you tube page for TO skincare review

AuroraPolaris · 03/02/2017 21:25

wilting - for first cleansing I'm using DHC oil at the moment. It's a very good, functional oil. Nothing fancy, but I'm really not looking for that. Now... for second cleanse I use the amazing Sulwhasoo gentle cleansing oil (sigh). But I buy samples on eBay (just bought 100ml for 14€). You can also buy very small samples of the DHC oil on eBay.

The Clarins Lotus Oil is a treatment oil and maybe my fav oil ever ever bo where the hell is my barrel of Lotus Oil???

Hollin hope you are OK and not in too much pain Gin

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 21:49

If I buy it aurora I will TOTALLY drop your name GrinGrin

Ah Fizzy, not sure I'd bother with the Kildare village outlet place. Though haven't been in ages. But it's quite small. Had a nice but small jaeger outlet, an lk Bennett one, a great villeroy & boch one and a huge clarks place, that's all I really recall! I never went back.

What kind of shopping are you after?

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2017 21:49

Very sore Grin and not allowed to shower for a week Grin the local wore off and I felt one of the cuts which was a little unpleasant

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 21:53

bit worried about the sage oil in the dhc. It's such a strong herb, would it not irritate? Tho it is v low on the inci.

I might look through sam buntings videos and see what she says about oil cleansers...

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 21:54

What the hell happened to you hollin? Shock

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 21:59

Oh and user if you are still reafing(!) my skin has loads of red and v reactive. Look ok first thing, terrible by evening time. Have terrible dry eyes too and attended eye docs for that. Eye docs were SURE it was rosacea. Put me on 3m of antibiotics. Did it make the slightest difference Hmm ? no.

It never goes further than redness. It just seems to be my skin, tho I suppose at least I know for sure it is not rosacea drinks more red wine Grin
My mother for have me on a regimen of life buoy soap as a teenager, for my spots (I only had a few!) I'm actually do think it did a lot of damage.

Do ye have life buoy soap in Britain? I'll
Go dig out a photo!

AuroraPolaris · 03/02/2017 22:03

Sorry, I'm not sure about the sage. It is a very medicinal herb, though. Great for both stomach and throat aches Grin

Here is a link to the very tiny ones

hollin poor you! And not to shower for a week OMG Shock

AuroraPolaris · 03/02/2017 22:06

Wilting I think Yong cleanses just with rice bran oil (from the supermarket), if you are so sensitive you might want to try that or almond or olive oil. Maybe boring but safe?

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2017 22:06

wilting - I had a massive abscess in August last year, was deranged with pain! In my armpit. They did emergency surgery to drain it and left the wound open. I did point out that it didn't heal last time...
January, wound hasn't healed (surprisingly!) and they decided to operate again. So I've had a skin flap made and my armpit sewn up

And yes, no shower Sad I can have a shallow bath ( spoil all my fun!) but no water near it

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 22:11

Omg you poor thing Shock that sound horrendous CakeFlowersGin

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2017 22:14

My armpit is sore but the rest of my arm is still numb Grin I've got 20 dissolvable stitches and 9 that will need removing. Hair washing should be interesting

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 22:15

I actually do have rice bran oil on my list of notes from these threads!

I would like something that will emulsify, enid what do you buy exactly?

wiltingfast · 03/02/2017 22:16

Jesus! Have some more Gin

I really approve of the Gin emoji I have to say!

cad186 · 03/02/2017 22:18

I quite like the caudalie cleansing oil, it has got fragrance added though. My skin is quite sensitive on my cheeks (mild rosacea) but I find this oil ok and doesn't irritate my skin at all. I have got a sample of the dhc oil to try next.

FizzyBubbly · 04/02/2017 07:34

Oh Hollin you have my sympathies Flowers

Wilting, well hopefully Kildare Village has changed since you last went Confused it's in the same group as Bicester Village here. Went there last year and got some absolute bargains!

Its going to be mostly clothes shopping for us (DH loves clothes shopping which is an absolute win! it's usually him dragging me round the shops) plus maybe some quirky homeware, and if they behave between now and then a present for the DDs. Oh and DH has recently got very much into Guiness so there will be lots of pub stops in between!

Am I right in thinking you managed get get some P50 in Dublin Hmm

Sorelip · 04/02/2017 08:39

Skin type: Combination - oily in the t-zone by the end of the day, but also prone to getting dry and flaky depending on the weather

Approx age (range): 30

Primary skin concern: Acne - over the last 7 or so months I've gone from only getting spots at period time to multiple sometimes painful spots all around my chin and jawline at all times. The red marks they leave are not fading, and I am developing more spots by the day. I have prescription Differin gel to use, but I suspect something is happening with my hormones, as my menstrual cycle is also getting shorter and shorter every month. I'll have to back to my GP in the next couple of months once I've used the Differin up. The only time I've ever had anything close to this was when I was drinking soya milk instead of cows - my body does NOT like soya.

Routine :

AM :
Soap and Glory Face Soap and Clarity Vitamin C facial wash
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo

PM :
Garnier Micellar cleansing water
Soap and Glory Face Soap and Clarity Vitamin C facial wash
Then either Bravura Revitalising Ginseng toner and Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid OR prescription Differin 0.1% w/w gel (just on the spots)

Makeup : medium coverage

Occasional treatments:
I occasionally use the 50 shades of snail method for sebaceous filaments with the Cosrx, Innisfree super volcanic pore clay mask and Banilo Co Clean it zero cleanser

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:
Nothing that I can remember

Things that are really working well for me now:
Nothing in particular.

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:
My hormones are definitely out of whack.

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item:
No limits if it helps

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]: I need to set up a routine with things that don't irritate my spots.

I'd really appreciate any guidance you can give Botemp. I hope the pain has gone.
