Cloud, that sounds MADDENING.

Lalsy, it's a mix. One application is for a year's work (at least) of a part-time gig with a small charity. I am a really, really good candidate - I tick every single box including the specialist area - and the recruitment agency was snapping at my ankles about it but who knows?

Lalsy · 07/02/2017 08:46

That sounds perfect, MI - I think a PT regular gig is Holy Grail for freelance cos you have a base and then time to get the variety, try new things etc that makes freelancing attractive? They are so rarely advertised though.

Rosebag · 07/02/2017 09:08

Sounds like it's made for you MI Fingers crossed.

Cloud Oh dear...but there's every chance the weather will change...no?

Crem What Lalsy says. If you can afford it can you just consider resigning? and the use the head space to make some plans. Flowers

Lots of shenanigans over night at this end. Back and forth from the bathroom in the wee, small hours with DD. Strange symptoms and never actually needing Brian in the end but getting to the brink constantly. She's up and wants to go in,...always worried about missing anything...and says she's still hungry after two pieces of toast. Confused I have changed my meeting to Skype by emailing participants at 3am. I hope I can stay awake...I feel shit.

motherinferior · 07/02/2017 09:22

Rose, get through the meeting and throw yourself a sickie. I'm planning on doing my own writing for a lot of today - I want to knock this draft on the head.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/02/2017 09:38

I whacked in another application for a job in Forrin Parts last night. I am the perfect fit for it on paper, but who knows?

Auriga, I had an old cat that came back from the brink so many times. She lived to be 22. And was vicious to the end.

Rose, at least have a good long nap today, if you don't throw a sickie

herbaceous · 07/02/2017 12:03

I think our cat may be on the brink. He's SO THIN - I can feel every part of each vertebra. And his back legs are so wobbly. And I've discovered the occasional poo inside, which is very unlike him. And now the doormat smells of wee. All his fur is matted, as he's fluffy but can't clean himself, and combing hurts him because he's so thin.

But when is it right to end it all? He still purrs when he sits on my lap, though not like he used to, and is still eating. This gradual decline makes it very hard to know when enough is enough.

hattymattie · 07/02/2017 12:29

Herbs - I sort of feel if he cannot clean himself ... poor soul.

Cloud - so sorry about holiday - hope it clears up. Sounds like you are where I was thinking of going.

Have had a happy time mooching around the end of the sales.

herbaceous · 07/02/2017 12:34

He can clean bits of him, but his belly is just one mass of knots...

I've just been googling the answer to The Question, and one vet said 'better a week to early than an hour too late'. < SOB >

MrsWobble3 · 07/02/2017 12:39

Herbs, have you had him tested for diabetes? Wobbly back legs are one of the symptoms. Our cat is now on twice daily insulin and it's transformed him - he now eats better, goes outside again and is grooming himself. I sent the girls back to uni in January having said goodbye to him because I wasn't sure he would make it through the term but he's now his old self again.

motherinferior · 07/02/2017 12:44

Herbs, our moggy continues to totter down the slope to the Great Beyond at her own pace...heaven knows how long she's going to take.

herbaceous · 07/02/2017 12:48

I think he was tested for diabetes a month ago when he first went to the vet. He has what seems to be aggressive liver cancer, which means he can't digest food properly, so he's just wasting away.

The blasted thing keeps looking on his last (doddery) legs, then perking up and jumping on to my lap or something.

MI - that's just the thing. He could be perfectly happy just doddering along, but I don't want to miss the moment where he tips into suffering.

CointreauVersial · 07/02/2017 13:41

Poor declining moggies. Sad

Cloud - bummer about the weather. DM is in Vietnam/Cambodia and complaining too.

Star
motherinferior · 07/02/2017 17:38

I may find myself drinking gin.

Lalsy · 07/02/2017 18:37

Wooo hooo, MI!

Rosebag · 07/02/2017 18:46

Star MI whoop whoop

Poor cats...would not the vet advise when it's time, or do they leave it up to you...?

I have been dosing off all afternoon, but managed to stay awake during a lengthy Skype meeting earlier. DD looks very pale and interesting. Not quite right yet, but obvs needs sleep. I have made her chicken soup. I am seething however that the theatre/college have changed the rehearsals during half term...in fact, now there aren't any. We could have gone away. Angry DD heard by chance and I emailed the dept to the effect of...'when were you thinking of telling us?'...answer came back, "Oh we were going to send out the new timetable on Thursday. " Thursday ??? Angry Angry Angry

addle · 07/02/2017 19:18

Crem, another firm vote fir getting signed off and sage advice from lalsy

Mi and mrs s - good luck! Brilliant candidates both of you

Hattie - get anything?

Massive apologies - I can't make Saturday after all - something I thought postponed is not

Am drowning, just drowning, in work but will not bring it home (on bus feeling sorry fr self and trying to sort through priorities)

MontserratCaballe · 07/02/2017 19:54

Sorry you are overwhelmed, Addle. I find making a list usually helps then one gets immense satisfaction from ticking things off. I agree with not bringing it home - have a break and go back fresh tomorrow. How is DH doing just now?

Well done on the book, MI. Trust you are celebrating appropriately Gin

MrsS, when are you off to your ma? I hope you can keep your pecker up in the face of frankly outrageous behaviour from her.

Rose, sorry you are ill and boooo to last minute date change. Can you not go to the flat for a bit (preferably on your own)?

Hattie, very sorry not to see you this weekend. Another time. DId you find a theatre performance for the evening?

Herbs, sorry re cat. BTW, DS looked adorable in his God togs.

Crem, hope you are now signed off and resting.

DS has a bath / scab crisis. Got to go. Back anon.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/02/2017 00:22

I have absolutely hit "cannot cope". While the young man is busy reading articles on line and in magazines and commenting on them. This is being strategic. I have no time for this. I had 10 things on one to do list today and 12 on another. I managed 2 of the 10 list and didn't even manage to get the 12 list out of the cupboard. I added another four things to the 10, now 8, list before I left tonight. I have four hours of meetings tomorrow. None of this is going to get done. Today I took on a further chunk of the young man's portfolio "as it sits better with yours". I can have no extra staff. I feel like I am being set up to fail. I can bore you all with this on Saturday, as I did with MI tonight.

MontserratCaballe · 08/02/2017 06:42

Oh Mrs S, I am sorry you are so under the cosh too. Hope MI was able to dispense wisdom along with lashings of gin. Any word on last week interview? And when is interview for next job in forrin pants? Would the latter be a reasonable escape route? Thinking of you Flowers

MontserratCaballe · 08/02/2017 06:43

By next job I mean job you mentioned at weekend

MontserratCaballe · 08/02/2017 07:10

Me again. Got this email this morning. Might be worth a look for any London based Crepeys

Looking Good, Feeling Crepe.
MontserratCaballe · 08/02/2017 07:14

Stropps, how are you? How is Dd now? Hope some equilibrium has been restored.

Btm, Beachy, Rudy - any boy news? Hope they are doing ok.

Crem - are you signed off yet? I do hope so.

I really am going to work now. Have a good day y'all

addle · 08/02/2017 07:18

Thanks for asking, Monty. DH doing pretty well and wants to come off the ADs. We have talked about him accepting that I may spot signs of trouble before they are clear to him. he thinks the best description is the title of the Lewis Wolpert book 'Malignant sadness'.

WAF - how are things your end?

Rose - hope you're feeling better.

Mrs S sounds unendurable. If you need extra local pair of ears ever - am around (sounds oddd but is heartfelt, although my record for successful mini meet ups is v poor as BTM cld tell you - vomiting/ill/chucked out of cafe

Cloud - hope the weather has improved for you
