Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Thanks, Enid, that's the one but I've copied pasted for convenience.

Super Balm – Gentle Daily Deep Cleanser 150ml (£25)

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Cetyl Ethyhexanoate, Isoamyl Laurate, Coconut Alkanes, Propanediol, Sucrose Palmitate, Sucrose Laurate, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Isoamyl Cocoate, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xantham Gum, Carrageenan, Citrus Medica Limonum Peel Oil, Ricinus Communis Seed Oil, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Extract, Citrus Nobilis Peel Oil Expressed, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara Oil, Citrus Bergamia Peel Oil Expressed, Vetiveria Zizanoides Root Oil, Myrocarpus Fastigiatus Oil, Juniperus Virginiana Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Coriandrum Sativum Fruit Oil, Styrax Benzoin Gum, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Flower Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Extract, Jasminum Grandiflorum Flower Extract, Citrus, Aurantifolia Oil, Thymus Vulgaris, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Ethanol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorpehenesin, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

I think this will make for a nice balm/cream cleanser hybrid for those who don't need to double cleanse (so no makeup or very light and a wash off SPF) but I'll be curious to feedback as it looks to be a good first cleanser too.

Super Serum – Advanced Multi-Depth Concentrate 30ml (£40)

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Hydrolyzed Yeast Extract, Butylene Glycol, Pseudoalteromonas Exopolysacccharides, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2, Vitis Vinifera Fruit Cell Extract, Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside, Mirabilis Jalapa Extract, Allantonin, Arginine, Propanediol, Pentylene Glycol, Glycerin, Polyglucuronic Acid, Dextran, Lecithin, Isomalt, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Citric Acid, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Propyl Gallate, Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorpehenesin.

Fermented goodness is always a happy sight to me, but the TT2 peptide is interesting as its one renowned for tackling sagging and slackening skin (though I suspect through tightening temporarily rather than reversing) and that it contains by the looks of it a decent amount % of salicylic (ahem Deciem, weren't you all anti-salicylic over on your TO page Hmm)

Advanced Hydration – Skin-Perfecting Moisturizer 50ml (£30)

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Oil, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Bertholletia Excels Seed Oil, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Aloe Barbadenis Leaf Extract, Pentylene Glycol, Tocopherol, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Trisodium Ethyllenediamine Disuccinate, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Extract, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Pelagonium Gravelolens Flower Oil, Citrus Nobilis Peel Oil Expressed, Lavandual Angustifolia Extract, Citrus Amara, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Vetiveria Zizanoides Root Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Seed Oil, Pogostemon Cablin, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Extract, Dipteryx Odorata Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorpehenesin, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

Moisturisers are really hard to judge by their INCI but I'm liking the look of this, I think it'll be a good one for normal to dry (possibly combo but perhaps too heavy) with a good inclusion of hydrating ingredients.

Night Oil – Overnight Renewal Treatment 30ml (£30)

Ingredients: Coconut Alkanes, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Pentaclethra Macroloba Seed Oil, Coco-Caprylate/Caprylate, Oenocarpus Bataua Fruit Oil, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Dimethylmethoxy Chromanol, Teprenone, Spilantes Acemella Flower Extract, Solanum Lycopersicum Fruit Extract, Papaver Rhoeas Extract, Lupinus Albus Seed Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Disodium Uridine Phosphate, Ethyl Ferulate, Tocopherol, Polyglycerin-5 Trioleate, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Oil, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Pelagonium Gravelolens Flower Oil, Citrus Nobilis Peel Oil Expressed, Lavandual Angustifolia Extract, Citrus Amara, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Vetiveria Zizanoides Root Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Seed Oil, Pogostemon Cablin, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Extract, Dipteryx Odorata Extract, Ethoxydiglycol, Aqua (Water), Citral, Citronellol, Coumarin, Farnesol, Gernaniol, Limonene, Linalool.

Not truly an oil but I think it'll be similar to Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Treatment so a good initiation product for those hesitant to oils and from all the WC products price wise the most interesting.

Eye Revive – Daily Brightening Eye Serum 15ml (£20)

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Propanediol, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract, Perfluorodecalin, Urea, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Darutoside, Pseudoalteromonas Monas Ferment Extract, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Alanine, Proline, Serine, Glucose, Fructose, Maltose, Trehalose, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Allantonin, Glycosphingolipids, Xanthan Gum, Sucrose Palmitate, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Hydroxide, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Caprylic Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorpehenesin.

It looks nice enough, but that's pretty much what it is, a nice eye serum. Don't think this is essential but if you just want a nice eye serum that isn't heavy like an eye cream this is a possibility.

So in all I think this makes for a good range (you can basically do a whole routine with it, just need to add in an SPF) if you have relatively normal skin with little sensitivities from 25 onwards (and a few with sensitivities might find some things among these too), if you want something a bit more than the bare bones of French Pharmacy, a bit of sensorial and nice packaging. It's not heavy in actives but it makes for a very nice baseline to supplement with an AHA and a Retinol (and SPF obvs). It's actually quite clever in its mid-rangeyness, it's not insanely expensive but not super affordable either so psychology you think you're buying into something decent without splashing out. It ticks a few important baselines but doesn't go into overdrive and into spa territory, it gives a hint of it but it's not it's USP. I am also annoyed the INCI isn't available on their website, it made me instantly suspicious of what they were trying to hide when the INCIs are actually quite considered. They're not going the traditional route with Niacinamide and Vit C but a lot of the INCI do focus on elasticity and collagen production so in a sense they do have it all covered in a gentler way. Will be very curious on the feedback, it's only £7 to deliver in Europe which is relatively low for most UK e-tailers but feels a bit high to buy just the one thing for now send me some free stuff please Grin.

Do TWC (can't ever remember if the US version is the same or not) often do offers where this would regularly be priced down?

mintmagnummm · 25/01/2017 10:41

Thanks pupsie that low porosity one is only available online and seems to be out of stock. Am thinking maybe the palmers Shea shampoo and conditioner?? Or faith in nature jojoba?? I'm crap at making desicions!

Sorry enid forgot to respond to you, I don't tend to eat a massive amount of refined sugar, I always buy golden unrefined etc (I'm definitely not someone who could cut out sugar) I am naughty sometimes but I try to listen to my body and if I'm craving something I'm of the belief ur body lets u know wat u need (that's my excuse anyway) sometimes i need chocolate or something sweet and feel dizzy light headed until I have it. Yesterday for some reason I was craving cheese and orange juice! So had it! I know I couldn't do these special diets etc food is my weakness and don't want to make myself even more miserable by restricting wat I can or can't eat. I'm luckily a size 8-10 and have a small build. I do ab workouts every other day that's my limit lol

mintmagnummm · 25/01/2017 10:43

bo salicylic is in hylamide sub q too

botemp · 25/01/2017 10:51

Yes, I know, I think they'll be similar, or at least what this serum was based on but it's less of a hydrating serum with benefits and focuses more on the benefits ingredients.

Bo yes they (The White Company) do discount codes. Usually there is 15% off, sometimes 20-25%

Currently there is AP839 that gives 15% off. I am not buying yet though!

hollinhurst84 · 25/01/2017 14:01

TSmummy08 - samples arrived, thanks so much I'm going to try them tomorrow
Korean lip balm I ordered also arrived with a load of interesting samples

FizzyBubbly · 25/01/2017 15:10

I'm such a sheep! Have just bought the Olaplex dupe too Grin I'm not sure what's worse, my skin or my hair (coarse, frizzy and thick). The only product that has worked is the Brazilian keratin treatment that gets mentioned a lot on S&B (swishy, smooth and soft for 10 weeks at a time) but the company are winding up and all stock is sold. Plus there's the small formaldehyde issue that I try and keep hidden at the back of my mind. Hoping that this new stuff will be just as good.

EnidButton · 25/01/2017 17:57

I need to take mine off and stop patching up the chips. They look ok but need filing, it's been a week. They're staying until Friday though. Yours look fine!

Coconut70 · 25/01/2017 18:29

cad186 · 25/01/2017 18:40

Pupsie - regarding the azelaic acid I'm using it once every other day in the evening after my serum and before moisturiser. Hope that's right! Only used it twice, I don't seem to have had any negative reactions as yet which is good as my cheeks can be very sensitive!

Skinfulnappies46 · 25/01/2017 18:54

Ladies, is This any good or just another way of taking our money and dreams of perfect, wrinkle free skin!

botemp · 25/01/2017 19:09

Skinful, probably due to country settings I'm just taken to the homepage. What product were you linking? Though I don't really need to know as it'll most likely be an overpriced thing that AB will cover for less as Rodial is pretty much an AB copycat brand and Nip + Fab at a higher price point so am not overly enthused from the outset... but share away Grin.

EnidButton · 25/01/2017 19:19

Oh good Coconut I do hope he has success with it.

What was that night cream India K was banging on about a couple of weeks ago? M&S one?

botemp · 25/01/2017 19:20

Hmm for my money I'd get TWC balm over the Pixi/CH one, more product and it looks nicer too by the INCI. Think they're similar price-wise iirc.

I have codes too!

Body Shop, enter the code 14664 on the website or show the code in store for 40% off most items, include sale stuff, until the 31st of January. So the cleansing balms should be down to 6 quid now? And their AB like SPF comes in a lot more affordable now.

$5.00 USD off your next iHerb order and they've lowered their shipping prices. No mention of minimum order. Should point out I get some sort of reward credit if you buy through the link, never received something like that before through my email Confused, and it may well be that MN's affiliate programs override it. I'm guessing if you just use the capital codes when checking out that should give you the discount too. Will happily click on other people's referral links in some sort of incestuous discount referral frenzy Grin.
