Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

bo Is it the LRP water spray you use? If it is, can you remember if the bottles come sealed/wrapped in cellophane/plastic like the Avène ones do? Bought some today, as my usual avene was sold out, and it feels half empty and there's no plastic on it. Wondering if I've accidently bought the tester. Hmm I'll take it back tomorrow if I have.

yongnian · 14/01/2017 20:16

Just checking in.
So....actives....is there any hope for me with this given that I managed to give myself dermatitis previously (seemingly) when using the new version of avibon...?
Or should I just steer clear?
Skin is pretty good right now...would like to address to fine lines but willing to leave them be if I'm likely to trigger the dermatitis again.
Happy with everything else though since I switched to bioderma SPF 50, which am happy with otherwise, I am noticing a grey cast to my pores...presumably im not removing it effectively?
Got a TO re-order to do...and nearly finished my BHA samples...so decision time there...
In other news, my Stila palette and I are now in a long-term committed relationship and may even head to civil partnership!

FizzyBubbly · 14/01/2017 20:21

I was joking about the decants Bo! Wink

EnidButton · 14/01/2017 20:50

It's ok bo just realised I'll have to go back tomorrow anyway as I forgot to pick up my order of toleriane fluid. 🙄 I had it in my list and everything! So I'll just take the bottle with me and have a look.

EnidButton · 14/01/2017 20:53

Sorry me again...Blush

For the cosrx bha liquid, is it:

Cleanse
BHA
Serum
Moisturiser?

I'm using it just on my nose at the moment which is where I use the Vichy serum. I waited 20 mins before putting the serum on. Is that ok?

botemp · 14/01/2017 20:54

I can't remember, Enid. I usually buy the 300ml two pack and they come sealed together and are pretty heavy.

Can't remember all the things you've been using on all the different parts of the face anymore yong. What were you looking at, retinol or something in that vein? Yeah, the Bioderma SPF50 spray is pretty heavy duty to get off, definitely calls for a good oil cleanser as a first cleanse. Do you and THE palette have any plans for baby Stilla palettes yet Grin?

Although I have to stick up for your poor DH in all this as he probably still outranks all the other DHs on this thread for the compliment of the year. He only really had competition from Aurora's DH because he can cook Ottolenghi foods and went above and beyond in Taiwanese typhoons in the name of sheet masks but his recent talk of Russian Pee Parties has sent his stock plummeting. Fizzy's DH might as well file for bankruptcy after prematurely abandoning my experiment.

Well I was deadly serious about the concealer, Fizzy Wink

botemp · 14/01/2017 20:56

yes BHA after cleansing and if using Vit C and AHA too the order is

Cleanse - Vit C - BHA - AHA - Serum - Moisturiser - SPF subtle

Wait all you want, I don't find it makes much of a difference but the CosRx may be different.

I'll have to see if I can find that Q&A now bo and have a read. I think you're right, it'll just become one of those things. Some of them I was very aware off because it's very obvious but bloggers used to be just about opinion rather than who could buy their words.

If I can do anything to help with you non-blog please let me know though I am not very techy

I am going to have to find somewhere that has a Sisley counter! Looking at the colour options I would automatically go for 1, what made you go for 2 instead?

Enid all of the bottles I've had from LRP have not been wrapped like Avene ones.

My lips are SO sore from this hot/cold/hearing/no heating Sad

Can anyone advise how often I should use the HA+b5? And is that different nights to the PC? I should have written it all down...

botemp · 14/01/2017 21:13

Q&A: www.mumsnet.com/qanda/dr-sam-bunting-skincare

I feel your pain Storm, I've sprouted a cold sore in perfect synch with my period which never spells anything good because it usually means my immune system is heading to its lowest point. On the upside, rediscovered my Super Lysine + Cold Sore Treatment and that has been a bit of a lifesaver, aside from the cold sore my lips are in tip top condition.

Shade 1 did that illuminating thing and looked good too but Shade 2 blended so seamlessly with my own colouring it was just very startling to see the result. I think in part it may just be me being done with the whole faux highlighting thing in concealers and this just feels fresher and more modern somehow.

HA is a hydrating serum you can layer on top of other serums. So after BHA, after or before another serum, whatever you like. I can give you access to your file, Storm, but it needs updating...

yongnian · 14/01/2017 21:36

Haha DH will be rather chuffed to hear that bo
Ohhhh yesssss....baby Stila palettes....I immediately went to mini travel versions- please make one Stila!
Which reminds me aurora where did you get your baby serozinc from?
And bo yes, meant retinol-type...but wondering whether I should just really go for super plumping type stuff and concentrate on SPF...
Aha so I wasn't imagining it it then, must try harder to get the bioderma off...

EnidButton · 14/01/2017 21:43

Thanks bo! The cosrx said something about waiting in between but the English translation was a bit muddled so wasn't sure. This bottle of LRP water is half empty but thought it might be designed that way. I'll check tomorrow.

Shestood Thank you for the LRP info. I always get things from the back of the shelf because I know how people test things but didn't today for some reason. They should wrap 'em.

EnidButton · 14/01/2017 21:49

Shestood if you're ok with lanolin get some Lansinoh. It's the best for sore or chapped lips. I have a tube on me at all times. and one in the car. And one by the bed. And at least 2 spares.Grin m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=%2Fen%2FLansinoh-HPA-Lanolin-40ml_1310106%2F (Think I just saw it's a couple of pounds cheaper in John Lewis.) I had cracked lips for ages years ago and lanolin healed them overnight. I put it on at night? as it's quite thick and greasy, and never had a single problem since. Holy grail product.

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 14/01/2017 22:00

Enid I've had the LRP water spray and it was unwrapped but felt full iyswim

Bo if you are looking for some techy help with your non blog, I am techy. My current job is front end development, but I can do more.

I never got round to ordering the PC bha but I will do! I did put in a big corsyx order recently, including an eye area sunblock GrinI'll update properly tomorrow.

AuroraPolaris · 14/01/2017 22:02

Yong I got the bebé sorozinc from Feel Unique.

Re the concealer - I agree with bo, I had always tried shade 1, but only after trying shade 2, which initially looks too orange and you think how the hell is this going to bland with my skin colour, you are truly wowed.

And yes Sisley, I'm also editing for my stuff. I want that brown-bronze eyeshadow palette and the vagina blush as well even though bo doesn't want it

Essie Gel polish looking intact and I applied it on Thursday evening. Wow! I'll take a pic tomorrow.

Bo which stuff do you want to get from Manyo?

AuroraPolaris · 14/01/2017 22:05

... ehhhmmm the best thing I've ever tried for dry lips is Clarins Lotus Oil (only on the outer part of the lips). It's magic!

OK Clarins you can also begin to send me vats of the Lotus Oil, thank you very much!

AuroraPolaris · 14/01/2017 22:10

In defense of my DH, and not to create competition with any others, he just said smg like "did you read the latest news", and since I knew what he was referring to, I told him to stop right there. The pee-party was my joke Hmm

EnidButton · 14/01/2017 22:20

Thanks Scooby Smile

botemp · 14/01/2017 22:29

My 'blog' project currently has the title 'Ceci c'est ne pas un blog (blogue?)' Grin. Techy is not the issue at the moment, maybe in the future. I've wordpressed in the past for another non blog (just an easy platform to utilise at low costs) without issue. It's more getting it all together trawling the old threads and pulling the information that's worth transcribing to fuller 'articles' (I had volunteers for this, I just need to get it organised and assigned). I've gone through a thread and a half myself and have a long list of 'posts/pages' now and have to sort of decide what should be there at the start and what can come later. Also the pretty graphic type stuff, which I can do myself but just need to sit down and do at some point. As you can see the list is long and I probably want to do too much at once.

I also really can't decide what to do about the 'business' side of it, in part, I do feel the thing needs to pay its own costs as it's not some personal vanity project, it's more for everyone else's ease of (re)reading and assure people get the right products with proper links (to avoid the constant misbuys that keep happening now, so I keep feeling the urgency of it a bit, even if it means putting up things slowly bit by bit). On the other hand, I absolutely despise the whole ad/affiliate link business model that defines the blogging industry, but there really isn't much of an alternative unless I start charging for routine advice which feels odd and puts a bit more pressure on it than it does now, or resort to begging Patreon or similar. And if I do go down the money earning route I actually have to look up what that entails responsibility and taxes wise, I'm not delusional enough to think this will actually turn a profit but I'm sure I still have to answer to some sort of legislation.

yong do you have Matryxyl yet from TO? It's sort of a retinol very 'light'. EGF may be looking into, gentle and quite effective.

Aurora's DH stock rising again Aurora and her pee jokes meanwhile...

I want to try their sheetmasks but they're a little insanely priced $35 for 10, the Galactomyces 10X The First Treatment Wrap Masks. There were other things of interest but I lost track at some point, but Sweet Corea doesn't sell the masks and last time I looked (few weeks back) they weren't in stock.

Hey Bear is back down below. Anyone care to enlighten me about Football Confused

OP posts:
ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 14/01/2017 22:39

Bo I will answer fully tomorrow. Ceci is my daughters nickname Grin you have a wealth of knowledge and it'd be amazing if you could find a really easy platform to communicate it.

AuroraPolaris · 14/01/2017 22:50

Yeah the mask you want is out of stock on their site but this one is also super interesting

http://manyo-factory.com/en/shop/product/bifidalacto-wrap-mask-lechebnaia-maska-s-bifidobakteriiam

Sadly they are very pricey indeed. I think the L'Herboflore Cellulose ones are about same price for 5 on eBay!

Bike - do you think this is for us?
Football- this is do not like!!!
Tennis- what's this?
Tardis- ?????

botemp · 14/01/2017 22:58

Yes, I wanted those masks too... then I decided I don't need that many masks and especially not that many masks at that price.

Where did you find those emohis??????????????????

The bike is definitely for us, but they should change it to [bakfiets]. I'm guessing a tennis ball and that last thing must be a British thing?

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 14/01/2017 23:05

The new emohis are under in the app.
Bakfiets is good, or smg like a black Cortina (not that I have one Grin)

I also think the Oxford Dictionary should publish a special edition and add emohis as an alternative. Wink

botemp · 14/01/2017 23:17

Yes, [transportfiets] probably much more current Grin. Whatever happened to all those Kronan bikes anyway, they were the black Cortina of yesteryear.

Do you think, possibly, that last one is MNHQ's poor attempt at THE palette?

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 14/01/2017 23:47

The purple thing? Looks a bit like a tardis or smg?

EnidButton · 15/01/2017 02:30

The last one is a TARDIS from Doctor Who. They brought it out during the last series I think or maybe when they were announcing who the next Doctor would be.

I really felt like I had something to say but it's vanished from my sieve like head. I'll remember later at around 4.17am.
