Help me spend £50 in m and s

Whynotnowbaby · 05/01/2017 22:03

I have been given a very generous £50 gift card for m and s. While it is tempting to blow it all in the food hall I really could do with some new clothes. Something I can wear to work as a teacher - not a suit. I went in today and just couldn't find anything amongst all the sale crap. I don't have a great sense of style at the best of times and could really do with some help finding something nice to spend my gift on. I'm thinking a nice top, a flattering dress or well cut trousers. Any ideas gratefully received!

i'd buy the £10 meal deals with free wine.

I think m&S are so far past nice flattering well cut clothes they are not even a dot on the horizon anymore.

beanfilledfish · 05/01/2017 22:09

wait for the new range? otherwise spend on nice toiletries like rituals or nuxe oil

stripeyreds0cks · 05/01/2017 22:11

Basics like the tshirts? Undies?
If it were me I'd use it on food though

nancy75 · 05/01/2017 22:13

Just buy cake, their clothes get worse every season

forforkssake · 05/01/2017 22:14

food. food food food. food. maybe a bra.

Ilovecaindingle · 05/01/2017 22:16

Got a gorgeous grey and white wrap type scarf for Christmas from there!!

domesticslattern · 05/01/2017 22:19

Bras are rubbish.
They don't even do decent plain black cotton pants any more.
Try the shoes? Stock up on tights?
I am afraid I have never seen a decent pair of trousers in M&S. Seriously.

Crumbs1 · 05/01/2017 22:20

Knickers and tights

nancy75 · 05/01/2017 22:20

God their trousers are the worst, I have never found a pair that fit.

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 05/01/2017 22:22

Underwear and the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, for hair.

nancy75 · 05/01/2017 22:23

How does chelle know how Pauline washed her towels? They never had a bloody washing machine, I don't believe she went with her mum to watch her wash them in the laundrette

nancy75 · 05/01/2017 22:23

lol really wrong thread Blush

DavidPuddy · 05/01/2017 22:28

I bought some autograph tights recently that were very soft and look nice. I also bought a really nice polo neck sweater in burnt orange and another one in black. They are soft and fit nicely.

Whynotnowbaby · 05/01/2017 22:32

Ok, looks like I may be back at the food hall or buying tights. That's a shame as I could have really done with some clothes that didn't empty my bank account!

Food and branded make up!

Mumteedum · 05/01/2017 22:36

I've recently bought boring but smart work trousers and skirt there. Sort of jeggings. I'll see if can find a link. The sale stuff was awful though.

AgentCooper · 05/01/2017 22:38

Go mad in the beauty section, seriously. They have so much great Nuxe stuff (Huile Prodigieuse is amazing and smells like heaven), Ren rose otto stuff, Monotheme perfume, Shay and Blue perfume. I'm jealous!

EmmaC78 · 05/01/2017 22:41

I am not normally a huge fan of M and S but I just bought a really nice dress from there for work a few days ago, it is surprisingly nice. :-

These. Fit nicely. Had good comments.

Last time I spent any decent amount of money at M&S, I bought a shitload of vests!

These are rather lovely to wear on a chilly day. I have one of each colour.

Cosmetics and toiletries.

SaladDressing · 05/01/2017 22:52

Buy packs of children's pants / school shirts in the next few sizes up using the gift card. You would have to buy this stuff anyway so it's now effectively free. Smile

Then spend £50 on yourself in another shop.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 05/01/2017 22:55

Yes to Nuxe products! I am addicted to the Eau de Toilette

YesThisIsMe · 05/01/2017 22:57

Leather gloves with warm lining. Their shoes and boots are pretty good.
This is quite nice, actually there's a range of good smart casual jumpers, but don't pay full price, sign up for Sparks and wait for a 20% off clothes/shoes offer.
