Do you pluck your own eyebrows and maintain your own fanjo?

I do, always have, but sick of looking for stray hairs every day.

Is it worth having them done professionally?

Ditto with fanjo, never had a wax. Should I?

Thanks Funkimummy. You've answered my queries right there. Interestingly, DH told me to get clippers - I just laughed at him. I agree with leaving some hair there, it makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable that some people like the 10-year-old look. (Shivers).

It must be my strict catholic upbringing that makes me feel conspicuous spreadeagled on a beautician's table. Yes, I do keep my undies on, but still feel a bit 'exposed' and always imagine the therapist thinking "Ugh. I would much rather be doing a facial"

Uch, stuff electrolysis, laser is sooooooooo much better, and unlike electrolysis, works first time. Unfortunately, it is extortionately expensive!!!

Grumpyoldhorsewoman, I can assure you, when I'm concentrating on getting a perfect bikini line, the last thing I think of is doing a facial.

Actually, manicures and pedicures are my least favourite, because I find them boring!

You're quite right bloss. Problem here is the beauty and to some extent the cosmetic procedures industry is just allowed to do what it wants.

Up until very recently, a non-medical practitioner could give botox, collagen and restylane injections etc. I don't agree with that.

The same goes for beauty salons. Some of the 'diplomas' people have, aren't worth the paper their written on. You can't learn waxing in a day!

Electrolysis and laser are almost certainly advertised over here as permanent hair removal, and they aren't. Electrolysis - well forget it basically - how can the person carrying out the procedure see all the hair follicles?!?!

Laser - has to be repeated once a year to remove extra hairs or veins (or whatever you're having procedure for)

Those who do home waxing of flange - can you recommend a good wax? Those pre-waxed strips aren't up to the job, IMO

Nope! My DSis does it for me.

Bloss - that's my point - you've been using it for years!!!! It's up to the individual as to whether they can stand the pain, but electrolysis is certainly a dying art amongst the beauty industry.

Daisey, you keep your knickers on, you are given a towel also to protect your modesty, you don't sit with legs akimbo, you put one foot against the knee of the opposite leg (making a number '4' with the legs so to speak.)

I use DH's beard trimmer obviously giving it a clean before & after, but he has no clue to it's extra uses!

Have never had fanjo dealt with by anyone else (I just keep it ...ahem.....trimmed ). How does the waxing work then? Does someone see you in all your naked glory? Sounds awful!

No No, G&T - make mine one of those as well!

You keep your knickers on and have a towel over you. It's not at all like the whole feet in stirrups thing you get at the Gynae's!!

Any therapist worth their weight will hold the 'modesty' towel up to shield you from their view and then ask if enough hair has been removed. If it hasn't, you reposition your knickers to show the extra line of hair you want removed. That's it basically.

hmm funkimummy....still sounds quite cringeworthy! Perhaps I'll give it a go one day

funkimummy you say hair is there for a reason to prevent infection. so are you saying brazilians are good or bad?

do you keep knickers on even for a hollywood?

Glad it worked for you Bloss. I've had many clients complain that it hasn't, and has been a painful and endured experience.

Each to their own!! It's certainly nice to get a perspective from someone it's worked for!!

From my own personal perspective, I think brazilians and hollywoods are bad. It's like having your eyelashes removed, foreign objects can get in your eye..............(ooh err!)

It's a very personal choice to have brazilians or hollywoods done. I know people who love them, I know people who hate them. I also know that the health and safety executive were asking salons to put notices up in their premises warning of the risk of infections (urinary etc) through having brazilians and hollywoods.

With the brazilian you wear a pair of disposable knickers in the form of a geometrical g-string (skinny bit on both sides.) Hollywood, well as it's a tu'penny all off, it depends on the salon doing the treatment, but usually they ask for no pants

Yes to both.
eyebrows - pluck and shape
fanjo - cream (2x a week) and wax(hollywood) for holidays

When I feel flush and can get to local salon that does it (work full time) I like to have facial hair (top lip, sides, eyebrows) threaded. Much better finish than plucking and far less traumatic for the skin than plucking or waxing.

Anyway now I sound like a right hairy monster!
