Do you pluck your own eyebrows and maintain your own fanjo?

I do, always have, but sick of looking for stray hairs every day.

Is it worth having them done professionally?

Ditto with fanjo, never had a wax. Should I?

That is true for me as well!

northerner · 18/02/2007 18:22

Lol at MB's detailed description of her fanjo!!!

I know this has already been said but I really am amazed at how many of you let your husbands/OHs trim your bits?!

I have such a sheltered prudish life - I might ask my DH tonight just to see his reaction! I'm sure he'd ROFL at me.

LOL X

Hulababy · 18/02/2007 19:49

I get my eyebrows waxed about every 4-6 weeks at local salon place.

The rest I trim and tidy myself. My c section scar has become a fab tool to help me know when it needs resorting!

Blandmum · 18/02/2007 19:50

Mine comes no-where near my scar. Either I have a high scar or a mini minge!

hunkermunker · 18/02/2007 19:51

I have weedy pigeon eyebrows that only need the occasional tweak.

I cannot imagine letting someone wax my fanjo. I do it myself!

Hulababy · 18/02/2007 19:52

My scar is pretty low down I think.

funkimummy · 18/02/2007 19:57

I pluck my own eyebrows and wax my own legs, fanjo, underarm and top-lip. But then that's what I do for a living!

I don't think they call themslves fanjo waxers.

They are therapists and it's a highly skilled job waving hot wax around someone's bits.

lou33 · 18/02/2007 20:03

i do both myself

SmileysPeople · 18/02/2007 20:03

Believe me Funkimummy knows stuff.

The kind of stuff women need to know.

tortoise · 18/02/2007 20:07

Ive never had or done anything to my eye brows but think they need doing. Pic added to my profile, what do you all think? Do i need to have them done?

SmileysPeople · 18/02/2007 20:10

Hmmm maybe a bit of shaping tortoise?

But aren't natural eyebrows in??

You need to ask Funkimummy, get her back.

I told you she knows stuff.

HuwEdwards · 18/02/2007 20:15

Year and years ago, I had my eyebrows plucked by a beautician and they were fab - great shape. Years later I had them waxed -awful - crap shape and red eyes for hours after.

Have never had a muff wax. I really do want one before my hols cos a razor every day is just a fag.

northerner · 18/02/2007 20:22

Well I'm off to Spian in Aug and will muster courage for muff wax Huw if you will?

Have been meaning to post a fanjo grooming thread recently, as I could take no more and took a razor to mine and now it itches like you wouldn't believe.

I think I would even prefer hirsute to shaved. It's so uncomfortable during the re-growth. I have had the wax a couple of times, but to be honest find it a bit, um, demeaning. I know I have had 2 babies, but legs akimbo to a midwife is all in a day's work, whereas I'm sure the beautician would rather be doing a facial and I feel a bit minging as you have to have let the hair grow to a degree. I always feel like a cavewoman, and I'm sure there are far hairier women than me, but that's their lookout. And what about length of hair left behind? Trimming with scissors seems just as itchy and uncomfortable. Any alternative DIY suggestions that don't hurt/itch/carry the risk of mutilation?

tortoise · 18/02/2007 20:30

What sort of price would i be likely to have to pay for eye brows to be done?

I think I pay about £8 for eyebrows to be waxed. Sorry vague, but I usually have a few things done at same time as I don't get much time for personal grooming (nor disposable cash)

tortoise · 18/02/2007 20:49

Found local ones website! Eyebrow shaping is £6.25. Think i will book in for that.
Brazilian is £18.50! That wil have to wait. Shaving the bikini line will do for now.

soph28 · 18/02/2007 21:03

oh good- I wanted a thread like this too.

eyebrows- maintain myself with tweezers.

fanjo- have had it waxed in the past and it was fab- didn't really hurt and great result.
Tend to leave it and then shave if am going swimming but get terrible rash/ingrown hairs etc if I do that. Will have to try the cream mentioned. Have tried waxing myself and it was impossible!

funkimummy · 19/02/2007 08:34

Actually, no I don't mind waxing myself, and waxing other people doesn't bother me, as there is quite an art to it. People are always rather pleased to be weighing 20lb lighter once the hairs have gone!

Thanks smileyspeople, BTW.

to reiterate previous threads - always pluck eyebrows, as waxing causes the area above the eyes to go crinkly and droop over time.

If you have top lip waxed, ask for HOT wax, not warm wax. (therapist will know what you mean.) warm wax will leave skin shiny over time.

Brazilians - well let's just say, that hair is there for a reason - to stop infection!!!

If you are going on holiday, get waxed approx 2 days before, as being waxed within 24 hours of any heat induced activity (exercising, sunbeds, hot baths, sauna's, steam rooms, sunbathing!!!) can cause burns.

With regards to trimming fanjo hairs, buy a beard trimmer, much better than cutting with scissors, and it doesn't give that itchy feeling afterwards.

Think I've answered everything!

funkimummy · 19/02/2007 08:36

Grumpyoldhorsewoman, why do you find waxing demeaning?

Surely the therapist gives you a towel to cover yourself with, and asks you to keep your knickers on?!?!
