Herbs, re SS: click online and send direct to them if need be. Panic not.

I have NO IDEA what to get DP.

motherinferior · 08/12/2016 10:26

I don't think you can book but it's a nice resto. If sometimes crowded!

I'm meant to be seeing some other friends later - it's one of those 'herding teenagers' things - I'm going to do a bit of looking around (bangs head on desk)....

Rosebag · 08/12/2016 11:35

1.30? 2.00?

motherinferior · 08/12/2016 12:12

2pm could work, couldn't it. I've suggested 5.30 cinema to my lot, which is straightforward down from St Pancras.

Rudy, have you any suggestions for bike-related presents for Mr Inferior?

Rosebag · 08/12/2016 12:28

OK 2pm

Anyone else? I'll see if tables are bookable in that nice first floor library restaurant but if not let's take our chances?

herbaceous · 08/12/2016 12:45

I'd love to, but I have a date with the school Christmas Fair, and then Santa. The real one, not some out of work actor in a beard.

In 'worthwhile economic unit' news, I have been asked by my old company whether I can organise, edit, etc two supplements by March. The answer is yes. Yes I can.

Sigh. I have just sold three items on eBay. For a grand total of less than £10.

A brand new dressing gown sold for £1.04. FFS.

Collymollypuff · 08/12/2016 14:20

If it's any comfort (probably not) that is why ebay works. Because you can get a brand new dressing gown for £1.04.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 08/12/2016 14:35

That's why I hate eBay - it makes me irrationally angry.....

I'm sorry I can't come up to the mini MU, although would love a little chitter chatter at the moment.

Mrs S - I would be fuming too at school just announcing grades like that. Can you ask them to have an 'all teacher meeting', write it up, present it to you and then have a meeting with the tutor to discuss. That's what happened with ds last term when it all started to go tits up. I have the opposite problem - predictions of B's and C's which usually would be a bit lower than what I would expect from him, but at the moment, I think they are unrealistically high.....

WAF - We have a lot of explosive moments at the moment and a lot of unnecessary 'coming down hard' by dh IMO. Now is not the time to insist on dd sitting the 'correct' distance from the table - lots of tongue biting here as well. I do get sucked into the misery mire from time to time. I'm off to the GP next week as I think menopause, stopping work and extensive exposure to CAMHS is not good for one's soul.

Ds has a detention tonight - the first of his school career, for running away from rugby training. They all know the history, but I think it's right that it goes ahead, as he needs to be made aware that we need to know where he is at all times. However, I think he will be in a right mood when he gets back. No decision on family therapy yet. Need to decide this week though, I think.

Rudy - sometimes in laws just don't appreciate the good things in life - please don't angst about it - just prime dh to be strong enough to tell them to take a flying jump every so often.

Herbs - I wouldn't take ds, unless you can plan where she will be and how she will be able to connect with him. My dmum requested the children come around a couple of weeks before she died, much care was taken to get her into a chair, make her look nice and we were only there about 15 mins. She handed them boxes of sweets which was completely unlike her, so I know she was super ill by then. As we left, we all ran through the garden, looking up at the window where she was looking out, shouting 'bye, Granny'..... makes me cry thinking about it, even now. So it was nice and poignant, but it was very well organised by my super sister.

Now for something uplifting but a bit sad - a dad at school has released this....apparently we only need 2000 more downloads to make the charts! Dd2 is not in it, but lots of her friends are (she is becoming too cool for choirs, mores the pity)

herbaceous · 08/12/2016 15:00

With eBay, it seems that if I'm buying I get into a frenzied bidding war, and end up spending £25 on a button, but there's no sign of a bidding war when I'm selling.

Collymollypuff · 08/12/2016 15:28

You need dh's froideur in being able to walk away. Bidding wars just make me want stuff. A lot more. I suspect that's the whole point.

As a family we've found selling on ebay disappointing. As MrsS's dh demonstrates, ebay is also a terrible, terrible, terrible excuse for hoarding. Because you can kid yourself that every bit of tat is worth something.

herbaceous · 08/12/2016 15:38

And of course now I've searched eBay for 'models of heathrow airport', something DS asked Santa for, and they exist! Well, generic airports. But they're vastly expensive. And anyway molly, an airport is included in the (apparently heavy) Carshalton kit!

Collymollypuff · 08/12/2016 15:47

Oooh, I'm so excited about it! Can we play with it a bit first? Grin I'm sure we'll be able to get it over to you - dd is gracing us with her presence this weekend so all is a bit uncertain, but I'll let you know and we can sort something out. I'll try not to dress dh up as Santa for delivery purposes. Or an elf.

wordassociationfootball · 08/12/2016 16:00

Brief howl here at your 'bye Granny' sweet-giving story, Beachy.

I have held off listing those £££ mistake trainers I bought earlier in this year to defer the disppointment. New Year propbably a good time to stick them on Gummers/Mehbay though...

I'm baking Mrs S's facebook brownies and about to watch the first ep of Transparent. Why the flaming not, eh?

Mrs W, thank you for sharing the lovely fact of your good relationship with dd3. I live in hope. DD2 can be thoughtful, hilarious, amazingly organised, and charming. I hope the car rant will stay as a hideous one off but won't Get Too Attached To An Outcome.

bigTillyMint · 08/12/2016 16:46

Ok that sounds like a plan! Sadly it looks like theres no trains to LB but I will find another route.

Feeling v tired after training and 2 1/2 hours driving round to drop and pick up DS who is also exhausted as he is not taking the meds properly. Sad

I find ebay too much effort!

hattymattie · 08/12/2016 17:10

I am back briefly before going out to primary panto. We have spent the afternoon rehersing and it is still shambolic.

BTM - I am also too lazy to ebay (also nobody would want my tat). Am rather tired although not as tired as the teacher who is streaming with cold as well.

herbaceous · 08/12/2016 17:24

I did my primary school volunteering this morn. This is the class with 13 SEN children out of 30. One has such severe problems that he has to be one-to-one with a teacher. She was assessing him today, and in the course of an hour he strangled, bit, slapped and hit her. This happens every day, apparently.

I wasn't surprised to learn that the main class teacher is leaving at Christmas!

IDismyname · 08/12/2016 17:43

Holy Moley Herbs - what an awful environment for everyone to be in - teachers, pupils - with and without SENs...

I have a whole heap of stuff I was going to ebay - just summoning up the energy to do so. I'm motivated by the fact that a lot of it could go as Christmas presents... but you're right. Most of it will go as 99p Christmas presents.

Yesterday I had a massive sort out of the linen cupboard. Having Marie Kondo-ed it about a year ago, there wasn't too much to get rid of, but I now have a lovely cupboard that is a joy to behold. Stuff went into the boot, and off to the chazza within hours. I need JOY in my life.

Had a day off funerals, but batting emails back and forward, but no actual interaction. DBros ex wife lost her DF earlier on this year. She said it took 6 weeks to really sink in. I can well believe it.

While reading someones letter last night saying how great my DF was, I burst into tears. I actually got a hug from DH. Someone pointed out upthread that unless your face actually displayed signs of grief, most men presume all is OK. I need to cry a bit more, don't I?

In S&B news I'm having my eyelashes dyed (see comment above)

bigTillyMint · 08/12/2016 17:53

Hatty, I bet it will be great and all the parents will love it. Are you in charge?

Cocoa, glad you got a hug. And Envy at a cupboard that is a joy to behold. There is stuff everywhere here. Mostly DD's Angry
My eyelash dyeing only seemed to last a few hours...

motherinferior · 08/12/2016 17:56

I have booked a lash tint, a haircut and toenail painting as close to Christmas as possible...I will still be daunted by gorgeous cousins though.Blush
