Budget Baukjen type jersey dresses?

Malermalergoni · 12/11/2016 19:55

I love the type of really simple, long sleeved, plain jersey dresses, as found in Baukjen, Sonnet James, etc. I think they're generally good value for money, but I'd like to have a stash of them as I seem to change outfits several times a day (messy job, messy toddler, trying to look presentable after travelling etc!)
I'm looking for the dress equivalent of the primark t-shirt iykwim, washable, hardwearing, indestructible, v cheap. Something to just throw on and feel comfy and finished. No, zips, pockets, tucks or embellishments, and nothing skatery at the bottom... More bodycon/tubey. No horizontal stripes (aaargh). Charcoal, navy, understated, flattering. Has anyone found the holy grail ??

I bought one 5 years ago from Great Plains and it still looks fab-u-Lou's.

Fletcherl · 13/11/2016 09:15

What! Fabulous.

PacificDogwod · 13/11/2016 09:22

I rate the Baukjen sale, also there is BNWT Baukjen on eBay on a regular basis. Worthwhile following that search (with your size).

Also THANK YOU for that Jersey Dress Co. link - brilliant! SmileThanks

Great thread op. I thought the same about the dress you just posted. Such a bargain though.

I really want this one but it's out of stock . If Anyone sees one similar could you post.

Malermalergoni · 13/11/2016 10:14

margaritas is it the whistles one? V nice, nice and simple.
I have had very durable things from Great Plains too, good idea.
Has anybody tried the £3.87 ones on eBay?! I just want to buy 30 dresses all the same, in different shades. I'm looking for Mark Zuckerburg's t shirt, in dress form.
I'm totally creatively exhausted in other areas so not looking to make any decisions with clothes, other than 'is it clean?' lol. I have endless fancy accessories but need to refine my morning routine to about 33 seconds max. That's the me time ;)

Maler that is exactly what I want to achieve, I read an article about a daily uniform and loved the concept. SO bloody hard to achieve though. ASOS own brand actually has a lot of jersey styles in the same colour, they're never linked though, so you have to find a style and then search the name. La Redoute are good at multiple colour ways, but I haven't found a style I like enough yet. Mostly synthetic fabrics.

Malermalergoni · 13/11/2016 10:50

Yep fledgling daily uniform sums it up . I'll have a look through Asos. I do have a quick, formulaic, way of casual dressing already but again, after h&m skinnies went to shit with the sizing, I'm always on the look out for well fitting jeans. Kind of defeats the object because if the garment isn't a perfect fit, you'd be mad to wear it everyday. I have it Sussed with tees and knitwear, even shoes and tights. A stylist friend told me her richest business clients find one thing that fits perfectly, then buy a load of them. Men especially with suits and shirts. So that's my idea, but on a lower budget...

missanneshirley thanks, gap is a really good suggestion. The discount codes are always great at this time of year too. They do have one called 'uniform dress' and it is really lovely.

Hello, checking out lots of the suggestions on this thread, thank you! Can I just ask, what kind of coat/jacket do you wear over a dress like this? Feel like my slightly oversized wool coat which comes to mid-thigh would look odd with either the short or below the knee versions...

Advice0nscarplease · 13/11/2016 11:30

REally not a fan of that grey Sonnet James dress - to me it looks like a grey sack. Baukjen dresses are super flattering

Malermalergoni · 13/11/2016 12:09

Yep advice actually I think that one is not the best example I could have given of their stuff. I just meant to illustrate the length/simplicity. On reflection, I agree it is a bit sack like, especially in the right hand pic. I like the left though.

I am thinking of buying that one Malermalergoni. (I have the similar one with the keyhole front already.) Ime they skim over lumps and bumps and the seams are magically in the right place to make their dresses really flattering. I have an ancient one I bought from the Outnet ages ago and always get compliments when I wear it. I did have to size up in my latest one though.

cupofrooibos · 13/11/2016 16:43

Can someone link to the Gap uniform dress? I'm struggling to find it on the website.

margaritasbythesea · 13/11/2016 17:44

Yes the whistles one maler. They have a version now but it's not as nice.

theclick · 13/11/2016 17:45

I have an ASOS one that was £12. Search for black bodycon jersey dress on their website, should come up.

Malermalergoni · 13/11/2016 19:17

I saw this image of the gap uniform
one, available at zalando only though it seems. On further inspection I don't like it- it has a zip and is baggy. eBay has some good m&s seconds £12.99 in a claret or black I noticed, mostly size 8s though.

m&s eBay (buy it now) ones are the 'comfy jersey tube' type. They look really nice, that's the style I'm going for... Just in a wider selection of colours. Has anyone tried the m&s one? It's midi length, which I find most flattering.

Up to 77% off on Baukjen warehouse sale until midnight
Sorry, it's a bit late, but I just noticed this now.

blueshoes · 13/11/2016 22:51

I have to say I am a little confused. I don't find baukjen jersey dresses to be throw on. If anything, they are bodycon and are pretty unforgiving if you have had a big meal.

The jersey is thick, I agree, but does not conceal lumps or bumps.

Malermalergoni · 13/11/2016 23:19

Blueshoes I have made peace with my lumps and bumps Smile

Much hated on mn, but I have black and grey midi length straight dresses in cotton/viscose mix from Marks. Fit your bill exactly and only £25.

Malermalergoni · 14/11/2016 10:15

Yep Ralph Thats exactly what I'm looking for, and the one that's on eBay too.

Any fairly petite mners found good jersey dresses like these ones? I want long or 3/4 sleeves (and I don't want them knuckle-length) and knee length on me, rather than on a model 6 inches taller than I am. Ideally they won't bag at the back either, but that's always hard to find.

Malermalergoni · 14/11/2016 12:24

AllTheShoes my teen dd had one last year from Topshop petite. Maybe worth a look?
