Hope that's an OK unilateral decision!

Oh gosh Addle, that sounds really hard for you and your DC. And your DH too. No idea what to suggest other than what worked the last time he had a bad bout?

MM, how sweet re DGD.
And I think I might suggest some pink ones to my DC for Christmas!

Rose, that sounds like a horrid walk - you were quite right to get her.

Just been for a lovely walk with DS and DH in a park where they used to play golf but the course is now decommissioned. DD is still waiting for the coach home - now half an hour late. I don't think she'll be booking a coach ever again!

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 15:42

Waf, get yer dh an ear and nose hair trimmer for Christmas. He clearly needs one. Grin

MrsFilthPacket · 06/11/2016 15:50

Addle, I have no good advice, but just wanted to send some love your way.

WAF - what excellent news! Please remember us all at the book launch!

MrsW - the committee vote was very predictable - I got about three votes and the man swept the floor. PM me if you want more info, but this is the only bandwagon left available for white middle class men to jump on, if they're not gay or disabled. They are taking it over, and it absolutely isn't all about them, and it gives off completely the wrong message.

I am very fed up with life today, despite having had a fab time last night at my cousin's wedding. Had a long chat with him - I think we are quite similar in personality, and we are the only German speakers in the family, which is something else we bond over. I do love an Orthodox wedding, with the bells, incense and crowns, and the reception was just brilliant. Smile

AF is three days late - this has only happened once before. You can usually set the clock by it. Is this the start of the menopause? Am certainly not pregnant as "D"H has not been near me since August. Sad

Collymollypuff · 06/11/2016 16:05

Addle, I don't suppose either of you have private medical insurance? A parent at dd's school went to the Priory for a while - he's a very high-flying guy who burnt out - he openly raved about how good it was. Apparently it's mega-bucks though, so only do-able if insured and covered for it. You might meet celebs...Sorry if that is completely out of the question (as it is for most of us). I thought of it because this guy was so amazingly OPEN about his MH problems - so unusual for a man. If I think of anything else, I'll post.

Crem, my mind just boggles at your family issues - so complex, so enmeshed. Can you just zone out? I have no idea how you can proceed otherwise!

hattymattie · 06/11/2016 16:15

Crem - book a holiday somewhere warm - just you and DH over the whole Christmas period.

motherinferior · 06/11/2016 16:59

Yep, Crem, holiday.

Addle, Stropps speaks sense.

I am knackered. Have been ever since I went swimming. Though at least it's physical tiredness not that awful draining tiredness I was whinging about having at the weekends. Have finished an excellent review copy of an Elly Griffiths (out in Feb) and what turned out to be a Significant Chapter. Would now like to veg till Humans/Poldark but one of my BILs is here from Forrin. The straight-laced one who irons his jeans and wonders why he doesn't have a girlfriend.Wink

MrsFilthPacket · 06/11/2016 17:03

DD2 tells me she is having a counselling session on Monday. I ask if this is for her social anxiety - "I don't know." Well if it's not for that, what is it for - "I don't know." "I don't know is the answer to absolutely every question at the moment. I wish the counsellor fucking joy of DD2, who has moaned that she is behind with her school work and doesn't have time to do anything. WELL IF YOU WENT TO BED AT NIGHT AND GOT OUT OF YOUR PIT DURING THE DAY, YOU MIGHT HAVE TIME TO DO STUFF. Have asked school to confiscate phone at night. Have had enough.

CointreauVersial · 06/11/2016 17:26

Have just had tea and lemon drizzle cake (out of a Waitrose packet) for DS's birthday - his GF was here. She's very quiet, and we've yet to persuade her to stay for a meal. DS has had several spins around the block, and made it as far as third gear, but predictably DH and I are telling him different things, so he is looking forward to his first lesson with someone who knows what they are talking about. First coat done in DD1's bedroom, and DH has fashioned a fix of sorts for the busted bed.

OK, I have a small work dilemma......I may have mentioned we have outgrown our office space, so a group of us are being relocated upstairs in the New Year. A couple of directors in offices, then six of us in an open-plan area. Me, four Accounts women, and Colleague I Can't Stand. CICS is actually in charge of Accouts, but feels he should also be involved in just about everyone's area of work. He and I are equivalent level. The Accounts women can't stand him either, but he is their cross to bear; I just work around him as much as possible. Anyway......CICS's boss and I get along well. He has given me responsibility to sort out the furniture and seating plan for the new office (mwah-ha-ha).

There is a great little alcove in the open plan area, with just enough room for a desk. It's tucked away nicely. So do I a) Put CICS in the alcove away from everyone else, and sit with the nice Accounts peeps, which will probably give him an over-inflated idea of his own importance, or b) Put myself in the lovely alcove, and leave CICS to sit with his staff, who will probably never forgive me if they found out I had the chance to bury him in a corner and didn't do so......Whadya think, crepey ones?

hattymattie · 06/11/2016 17:27

Mrs F - I can't believe the school lets them keep phones at night. I keep wishing I had the cash to send DS to a boarding school where he might be usefully occupied and away from computers and phones. I actually threaten him with this. I think the "I don't know" is a classic teenage response - Dcousin - spent about three years stuck in this rut.

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 17:30

Oh dear lord, MrsFP, I'd be effing and blinding in the face of that. Although I wish the school luck with the confiscation.

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 17:33

CV, have your own office and abandon Accounts. Grin

Cremolafoam · 06/11/2016 17:35

Very nice boots Rose! Love them

Waf I never said congratulations on the book. I'm so impressed! If there is a launch and Crepeys are invited I will jump on a plane!

Mrs S, glad you had a good wedding, mazel tov to your cousin. I also love a proper wedding with all the proper bits. Getting rarer these days. Are you worried about dd2? Do you think she is hiding something?

My labyrinthine family is enough to finish anyone off. Dh has basically told his mother to MTfUP. She is an expert is emotional blackmail. Turns out to be a misunderstanding that she had twisted in to a high drama starir ng herself . Load of cobblers. She is going to her boyfriends for Xmas anyway fgs.
Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to piss off for Christmas , but sister did that 2years ago ( Alps) and still hasn't been forgiven.

I have made baklava. It is stonkingly marvellous

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 17:37

Hatty, I think older dcs at boarding school have far more access to phones etc than you might think/hope. And the tech-savvy under-14s at prep school get up to more than they are supposed to.

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 17:52

Mmm, baklava. Thanks for welcoming me to the Club of Back Decrepitude, btw Crem. Grin I was mightily pissed off to have significant pain during the night last night after merely daring to spend approx 45 mins leaning slightly backwards looking at fireworks, ffs.

Lalsy · 06/11/2016 17:54

I never managed to confiscate phones. dd got a lot of (excellent) pastoral support in sixth form and refused to let school tell us about it (main problem was a mad friend) - when we did eventually discuss it they said that sort of sit is very difficult but dd was very clear and they wanted her to be sure she could talk to them in confidence, and they also had to protect the friend. schools can end up in complicated situations I think.

Mmm, CV, which would you prefer? Seems to me what people will be expecting will be CV in the alcove as she isn't accounts and all Accounts peeps together so if that's what you want do that? But if your life will be made easier by keeping the peace and you are happy with the nice Accounts peeps, I'd go with that.

Crem, gosh yes your family. I am pissing off this Christmas for the first time ever. It caused a ruction which seems to have been healed by another family kerfuffle, not really related. People are odd.

I have walked, had coffee with a friend, been to the gym, made dinner and done some admin. dh is off on work trip early tomorrow and is sweating over a hot laptop. ds and addle's ds are snuggled up happily with X-box talking their own strange language.

Glad ds has done some good stuff this weekend, BTM.

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 18:09

Dd did some midnight wailing about being homesick. To which I responded with a guardedly sympathetic message this morning. And this evening she has been back in touch to ask if ds and I can visit "to see the Christmas lights" (not really), so ds and I are driving up next Saturday. Plus dd got in contact yest evening to say that she had had "a terrible day", but what had actually happened was that the night before she had lost her bag (keys, money, cards) in a club and had to stay in her flatmate's room on Friday night and borrow her clothes yesterday. Then she borrowed money for the bus fare and went to the Club and luckily they still had her bag. Then her bank card had stopped working and she had to go to Barclays to sort it out (which resulted in a new one being ordered). The big news is: yay, she managed to sort everything out BEFORE ringing me to wail. Which I pointed out - and congratulated her. StarStarStar

Cremolafoam · 06/11/2016 18:20

Stropps , she can do it ! Imagine that. Hope she is back to taking her medication. As well. Baby steps.
But Starto her and FlowersFlowersFlowersto you.
Grin

hattymattie · 06/11/2016 18:25

Yay Stropps - I think this is all about growing up, sorting out problems (like my DD2 and her charger) learning to do the mundane stuff like going to banks. She is lucky the club still had her bag.

Crem - I LOVE baclava.

Lalsy · 06/11/2016 18:26

Christ on a bike. Stropps, fantastic!!!! Wonder if this would be a good moment for a care package? I know dd loved getting them even tho it is ridiculous as the postage costs more than the cheap chocolate......

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 18:55

We'll take a big care package next weekend, I think. Grin The main thing is she is KOKO. Crem, I suspect she will not go back on her meds unless forced to by hospitalisation. She is nothing if not extremely stubborn. And as long as she has good days, or even good moments, she will think she can manage without. And maybe she can. If she stays off meds, then she will just have to learn to roll with it.

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 18:57

CV, happy birthday to your ds, and well done to your dh on his fortitude in taking ds out for his first experience of driving.

Lalsy · 06/11/2016 19:30

OK, crepeys, in the light relief corner I need to ask a very dull question....tights. Some tights are good and stay up. Some are bad and fall down. None have labels. I am wearing a falling down pair - how do I know which they are to avoid buying again? Is there some secret tights system that I was never inducted into along with so much other womanly knowledge?

Collymollypuff · 06/11/2016 19:38

Lalsy, I'll have to leave it to others to sort out tights. Grin

Just wanted to say: Stropps, we always take our dog to uni. It puts everyone in a better mood, plus all the Young People (potential friends!!!) gather round and fuss him, and don't even notice that there are parents in attendance. Also, we dress him up. Blush

Stropperella · 06/11/2016 19:41

Um. My tights fall down less frequently since I started buying a smaller size. I do not see myself as a "small", however small size tights stay up. Whereas M+ do not. It appears that tights sizes take more account of height than girth. My tights-wearing experiences have been more comfortable since I learnt this.

MrsFilthPacket · 06/11/2016 19:42

Lalsy, I find Boots tights are good and stay up. I used to swear by M & S but as of last year, they all seem to fall down. (I have some from the year before, which are fine.) Sainsbury's tights are also pretty good, and I have some F & F opaques from Tesco which stay up, but I don't find the colour as good as the others (it's a bit patchy).

In S & B news, I bought a dress the other week, and dithered about keeping it, but finally sent it back - it cost £70 and I wasn't sure it was worth that. I've just bought it on eBay, BNWT, for £12.50. Grin So what shall I buy with the money I've saved? GrinGrinGrin
