Hope that's an OK unilateral decision!

Well done MI and Herbs Wine

I opted to stay in and wait for the grocery delivery whilst watching The Grapes of Wrath with DD who is multi-tasking and doing work on her laptop at the same time. I have never seen it before and now I know why

IDismyname · 18/11/2016 00:08

Congrats to MI and Herbs on their new jobs. I think I have a similar chiropractor. It's just like the kind of thing she'd say.

Well DS has passed through Dubai, and will land in Oz sometime tonight. Then it's on to Auckland and then down to Q Town. Let's hope bike also makes the same trip.

Mrs W - that's NOT the kind of stuff I want to hear Grin

I spent some of the happiest times in NZ in my mid 20s. I am so, so happy to be going back. Please, please DF hang on in there until I return

Reasons to be Cheerful:

  1. DS has finally gone, and I can get on with life without panicking about bike bags and luggage allowances. (I am ignoring all comments about hospitals...)
  2. My DM just loved her new Christmas tree soap pump, although seeing her try to explain to DF (severe dementia) what it was, was really quite funny.
3.im wearing new v comfy PJs and have got water bottle.

Hooray MI on flood of work! And Herbs on tutoring, brilliant. And wouldn't a two day a week gig be perfect? Regular and plannable around and can crack other stuff up in term time around it and down a bit in school hols if wanted?

Lalsy · 18/11/2016 08:24

Cocoa, glad ds well on his way. Have you got some nice busy things for next couple of days? It must be hard planning the trip but with uncertainty in the background.

motherinferior · 18/11/2016 08:38

I'm now panicking about fitting it all together but I shall just have to work like mad. I may also have a two-day gig for a few months, but I'm waiting to see about that...

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/11/2016 08:46

I have come home with a temperature of 41 degrees Shock and don't seem to get it down much at all. No idea what is going on, but feel terrible. So DH is going to the parent teacher conference on his own. Given that DD1 got Fs for two subjects and D- for another two, I wish him joy.

Oh and AF turned up yesterday with a vengeance, two weeks late.

In mildly amusing news, I had lunch with someone yesterday who works for POTUS, and he said that Obama often writes "WTF?" in the margins of his briefs. Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/11/2016 09:05

I don't know what to do with DD1. We are paying £££ for an organisational tutor for her, which seems to be having little effect. I am also hugely resentful that I have spent a large chunk of my savings on this fucking school. I wish I had sent her to the local failing comp where she would have come out with a GCSE in knitting and one in cooking, as at the moment she looks set to fail her IB. Sad

Agree with resting up, MrsS: just go to bed, drink as much fluid as you can and forget everything. Of course you are pissed off with DD1 but look, you've done everything you can.

hattymattie · 18/11/2016 09:36

God Mrs S - go to bed and get yourself feeling better first. Very tough call with DD1 and very stressful, I'm really happy I've a year off end of school exams. I'm not sure what an organisational tutor does but it does sound like one of those wishy washy non jobs to me - the sort of thing a good teacher would have done in the past. Especially if it's a boarding school.

Rudy - it's my day off today as well - I'm going shopping - retail therapyWink.

The sun has come out after a week of continuous drizzle so feeling more positive.

motherinferior · 18/11/2016 09:43

Yes, I would be STEAMING at the school - this is their job, dammit. And should actually be covered by them to bring in a tutor under the fees you already pay.

herbaceous · 18/11/2016 09:53

Oh Mrs S, get to bed. I am continuously furious at your DD's school, as it seems to charge a lot of money for not a lot. Organisational tutor? As Hatty says, surely basic study skills and organisation are taught alongside everything else by normal teachers. And you have to work yourself to death to pay for it. RANT RANT RANT.

On the other hand, I'm now wondering if I should become an 'organisational tutor' if there's money in it!

Talking of which, ANOTHER friend has emailed me asking if I can help a Polish builder with his English. Step right this way, sir... I'm going to run out of evenings at this rate.

motherinferior · 18/11/2016 09:54

I was thinking exactly that, Herbs! You'd clean up.

motherinferior · 18/11/2016 09:57

My kids' comp runs sessions for kids who need help organising their work, I'm pretty sure. And Mr X the Tiger Science Teacher makes them be organised. I love the TST. He pulls every trick in the book including his own personal suffering if they don't reach their full potential. And despite themselves they all rather love him too.

Cremolafoam · 18/11/2016 10:20

Flaming hell Mrs S, I hope you are in bed , or at least reclining with an ice pack. That's a very high temp.
Shut off brain until you can think without it hurting. Rest and feel better first.Flowers

I have spent the last two days sorting out the car damage, and finally got a quote the ruddy insurers of other driver can live with. Total arseholes until I produced cctv footage of other driver reversing at speed into my lovely wee car. All so trying and down grinding.

MI and Herbs that's great about the work.

Reasons to be cheerful aujourd'hui :
1-car thing sorted
2- I slept last night.
3- collecting birthday ring today after resizing.

Cremolafoam · 18/11/2016 10:22

Snort Grin@ Obama. Quite.

bigTillyMint · 18/11/2016 10:28

MrS I hope you are tucked up and sleeping or resting at least. It must be very frustrating to pay all that money, and more for s tutor and still get told that she is not doing her best.
Yes MI, London state schols are actually doing v well with results - mainly because they are addressing the issue of underachievent very effectively - it's not one-size fits all/you have to just work harder/some kids will never acieve anything anyway any more.
Has your DD been assessed Mrs S - just wondering if she is dyspraxic/slow processing, etc as she is clearly bright and which would affect her at this level?

DS in school again for the morning - just need a vat of g+t after the school run - truly horrific.

bigTillyMint · 18/11/2016 10:32

Cremo that's great that you have cctv footage - how?

Reasons to be cheerful
DS in schooL and had meds in school this morning. Again
DD now has 3 offers for uni
The sun is shining and I am teen-free for another hour and a half!

Cremolafoam · 18/11/2016 10:44

BTM that all sound very positive. The cctv coverage came from the bank . The accident happened right outside it. There is a company you contact who follow it up ( my garage did that) will find out how....

In Christmas shopping news, I came across this gift subscription website There is really something for everyone, and most do a one off shop or a 3 month subscription. Could sort out a few people in my family.Smile

motherinferior · 18/11/2016 10:46

Btw have solved riveting candle dilemma by realising DSis can take presents home with her when she stays the night in December, so that confirms the vote for mini-luxe.Smile

bigTillyMint · 18/11/2016 10:47

Must look at that Cremo, not that I really have hardly any to buy for and the DC want cash, but DHs b'day coming up as well as Christmas...
And great re being outside the bank!

Yes great that things are up atm, but it is VERY much a roller coaster during each day!

Lalsy · 18/11/2016 11:12

BTM, that's fab about dd's offers! And yes re rollercoaster, no wonder you are feeling stressed when each day can unfold in so many ways. London schools - yes indeed.

MrsS, get to bed and get that temp down. I don't understand what dd and school have been doing - I thought being boarding would mean a routine....

addle · 18/11/2016 11:25

Hope you're in bed Mrs S, concentrating on yourself and feeling better. Tho' thank you for insight into POTUS

BTM - great about dd - she pleased? does she have a favourite? and v good news about ds. Now look after yourself. Maybe something more cheerful than G of W?

BP stroll - I can't do Sunday afternoon this w/e but could do Sat ? and WAF of course! pleasure

Reasons to be cheerful:
Ranting to DH last night about being crap at my job and he was brilliant listener
DS overheard bit of rant and gave me a hug good night (then said 'don't know why I did that')
Managed to dry DD's jeans with a hairdryer this morning so that she could take them away for the w/e
