Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish reaction

Experienced cystic spots (big and painful) mostly along jawline that have left scars. Was okay with C&P for a couple of months until possibly opening a new tube.

Wondered if it maybe after prolonged use cream cleansers are simply too rich for my skin.

Anyone else come across the same? Was it down to the Liz Earle brand (I hear formulae has changed) and have you found an alternative that works?

I've changed from LE HCC to the no7 one. I do miss the smell of the LE, but it's much better value and does the same job, for less money.

Madbengalmum · 29/10/2016 17:08

They are all pretty similar basic formulations, just different fragrances generally.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/10/2016 17:10

I so want her life millions Wink

Eliza22 · 30/10/2016 09:46

I've stopped using it. It suddenly started making my skin itch. What a shame.

ijustwannadance · 30/10/2016 09:54

She sold to Avon then they started the LE make up range.

I used to use LE regularly about 10 years ago. Don't any more as they messed about with it and my skin doesn't like it anymore.

KathyBeale · 30/10/2016 09:59

I have been using cleanse and polish for about a month and my skin is bloody awful! Massive sore spots and also so many tiny whiteheads. Might try the Body Shop camomile then. How annoying!

theclick · 30/10/2016 10:02

Now i know she is sometimes a controversial name around here but a few years ago when asked why she never recommends Liz Earle Caroline Hirons said it makes her break out, although recently (few months ago) said their formula change has made her use it.

I have tried cheaper alternatives to Emma Hardie and have found that TBS camomile balm and superdrug vitamin e hot cloth cleanser work quite well and the cost isn't bad (esp when TBS do 40% off weeks!!). However, nothing has been as good as Emma Hardie so far so I always buy that with a discount code whenever I can get one.

FrickOnAStick · 30/10/2016 10:26

Liz Earle original was awful for my skin way back when. I never bothered trying it again, especially as the prices snowballed with the years. It's the fragrance for me. Too much for my sensitive skin. Anything with loads of essential oils or fragrance have the same effect on me. Emma Hardie is a another big culprit and I cannot forgive the terrible packaging that disintegrates before the jar is empty Angry

TeeK · 30/10/2016 13:46

KathyBeale, I feel your pain.

The itch some describe after using LE C&P sounds familiar.

TheClick, Emma Hardie's Moringa whatsit is pricey...Must be good if many are prepared to splurge. Where do you purchase?

Superdrug Naturally Radiant goods appears to have pretty good reviews...

It's worth emailing to check yours isn't one of the batch that was recalled. I had one but I'd bought online so they contacted me, their customer service was excellent I have to say.

RepentAtLeisure · 30/10/2016 16:13

when asked why she never recommends Liz Earle Caroline Hirons said it makes her break out, although recently (few months ago) said their formula change has made her use it.

I'd suspect a big fat cheque made her use it if there are complaints across the board about the new formula. I don't trust her since buying a product she praised to the skies at a time when most of the usual suspect beauty tubers were also promoting it (i.e getting paid) and it was awful. I may have well bought a £50 lump of lard. Her opinions can be bought, just like the rest of them.

I was going to treat myself to a new tube of C&P this week, but I suppose I'll stick with Superdrug for the time being...

theclick · 30/10/2016 21:27

TeeK I have mostly bought from M&S online and I think Look Fantastic (I think!) but I always use a 20% off voucher - I've never bought full price. I just wait for the voucher to come through to purchase. I usually get the largest tub so it lasts me a long while. If I ever run short and don't have a voucher (not happened yet), I'll just use the superdrug or TBS one in between. I would just say that those two leave me feeling a bit stickier, so I really scrub hard to get them off.

The other one I've heard a lot about is Merumaya Cleansing Balm, which I want to try soon. It's meant to be cheaper.

AgathaMystery · 30/10/2016 21:30

Whoever asked about Superdrug HCC - I have switched from LE to Superdrug for the past 6mth with no issues.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 30/10/2016 21:34

Repent which product was that?

I do love CH but have had my eyes opened a little.

mammadingbat · 30/10/2016 21:40

Hi Teek,
I've always used Liz Earle C&P but one year my mum bought me Avons Anew Cream Cleanser and Mask and it's LOADS cheaper and I find it's much better.
I still use the Muslins from Liz Earle - it says on Avon to use tissue but I find the Muslins work!! :)

TeeK · 30/10/2016 22:10

Thanks all for your responses.

Admittedly, I'm reluctant to let another HCC near my face considering the recent breakout, despite having just bought the Superdrug radiant version!

I never got on with C&P, tried it years ago, before LE sold it and it made my skin all red and irritated.

suspiciousofgoldfish · 30/10/2016 22:26

LE is the most overrated load of tat going, I can't believe believe people are still falling for the hype.

A true example of how clever marketing and an astronomical advertising budget can sell stuff that doesn't really DO anything.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 30/10/2016 22:32

Tissues?
I thought the whole point of C&P was the hot cloth removal.
Unless that's changed as well.

^This
I only ever used a sample of C&P and was unimpressed. It was so thick I felt I was re-arranging my face when spreading it and it smelt awful.

She's traded on the 'made with pure plants oil by virgins' or whatever and it's just rubbish.

KathyBeale · 06/11/2016 09:39

I've been using the Body Shop camomile oil for THREE DAYS and my skin's already better. Am astonished - and about to bin my LE.

GizmoFrisby · 06/11/2016 09:42

There has been a recall. Can't find the link. Aparantly some bacteria in a certain batch

GizmoFrisby · 06/11/2016 09:42

There I see a thread on here about it

MinesaPinot · 06/11/2016 17:31

Hi there, long-time lurker but never posted so hello!

Wanted to join in with this one to say that for LE C & P was always my Go To, but following the Avon sell out and the formula change found that it left my face feeling really hot and red and sore (nice!). Have been using REN Evercalm and Rose Centafolia but following a change in circumstances have been looking for something cheaper. Following lots of good comments on here I picked up the Superdrug Radiance Hot Cloth Cleanser (the green tube) last week, along with the matching day cream as it was on BOGOF. OMG, what a revelation! Cleanser is creamy and left my face feeling really soft. Really liking the day cream as well. Am very tempted to go back to Superdrug and stock up whilst it's on offer! Smile
