Where is the 'warm, waterproof, bum-coverer coat' thread this year?

I finally really do need one (moving to the coast soon) and remember seeing excellent advice here before. Have I missed the thread, or is this a fallow year..?

Yay. Finally.. I had the Merrell Haven the past two years. Best coat I've ever had. Warm waterproof and not too mumsy. Sadly I've lost two stone and it's massive on me now. I bought the target dry coat linked up thread but it's not warm enough for me. It was sent back. The lands end squall jacket was the warmest I've ever had in my life but not very stylish. I need a new coat..it's 2 degrees tonight. Winter is coming.

My Didriksons Celeste is from 2011 and provided good service but its really not a very flattering coat. I really fancy something different this year so pleased to see another one of these threads up and running.

I have ordered Seasalt Janelle - on sale in the green on their website at the moment. Still a lot of money but every year I need a waterproof warm coat and finally decided to treat myself with birthday money, am excited!

Hmm it arrived and I'm not 100% sure. I don't know quite how I expected it to look but it just looks very 'sensible middle aged woman' (which is basically what I am...) I'm going to wear it around the house a bit and see.

leedy · 19/11/2016 17:39

I have the Seasalt Plant Hunter and love it - it's kind of more parka-style, totally waterproof, and lightly padded/fleecy on the inside. Also have the North Face Arctic Parka, which is tooooooaaaasty, but probably too warm for anything but v cold days.

Only issue is that I lost weight this year and, as someone said above, the Seasalt is cut well enough to look OK regardless (also weight loss has not affected my giant hod-carrier's shoulders, which tend to mean I have to size up in coats anyway), but the Arctic Parka looks a bit ginormous.

FuckYouDailyMail · 19/11/2016 21:28

You see now metoo that's what I fear with the Janelle, I'm shapeless and middles aged enough anyway and don't want a coat that brings out that side of me.

ChoccyJules · 20/11/2016 11:13

Hi, the Seasalt coats are 20% off ( certain sizes and colours only) today so am looking again as need a warm but waterproof coat. Has anyone seen the forest green Janelle in real life? It looks rather garish, never worn green frankly but like the look of the coat.

metoo22 · 20/11/2016 11:17

That's the one I got, still not sure about it Choccyjules. I like the colour, although it's a lot of green! It just looks less stylish than I'd hoped so I haven't decided whether to keep it. £84 is a lot of ££, especially for something I'm not sure about.

ChoccyJules · 20/11/2016 12:22

Ooh it's £114 today so you obviously got a great deal! DH says to forget the sale and get a colour I like, though maybe a waterproof than I can wear jumpers under rather than something that looks like a sleeping bag. Dunno...I may prefer the option of a warm coat which also rainproof.
