I have taken the sensible decision, and dispatched DS off with friend. Less sensible is the fact that friend's car doesn't have rear seat belts. < PANIC >

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2016 12:37

God, how old is it, Herbs?!

I'm sure he will be fine. Just relax and make the most of an afternoon offSmile

herbaceous · 02/10/2016 12:59

It's a triumph dolomite. 'Classic car', innit. When I asked the favour, I assumed it would be the wife taking them in the sensible people carrier.

Never did us any harm, and all that, but such a contrast to DS's über safe seat in my car.

CointreauVersial · 02/10/2016 13:46

Ahhh....I spent many years rattling around on the back seat of a cobalt blue Triumph Dolomite. We played that great game when we went fast around corners - sliding heavily from side to side, squashing the person at the end against the door. And no-one ever fell out.

herbaceous · 02/10/2016 13:49

I played that game too! And used to enjoy riding untethered in the rear bit of an estate car. Kids today don't know they're born, etc etc

However, I am mightily relieved to report DS has arrived at the party unscathed.

Have just had wailing from DD1, who is home alone. The cat has been sick. The cat has wiped his bum on the bathroom floor. She hates cats and is never having one. The bank are sending her a new bank card but she won't get it till next weekend. She needs money to get home from Stratford next weekend. She hasoney, but doesn't want to spend it. Have told her to MTFU, this is what being a grown up is about.

My DM had a Triumph Herald which she totalled along a fenice down a hill. Thankfully I wasn't in it at the time!

Just had a lovely walk in the sun with Molly and Addle Smile

motherinferior · 02/10/2016 15:53

Good for you, MrsS.

I have had a slightly Collapsed and Self-pitying day but have made a chicken/chickpea/chorizo casserole (in oven) for later in the week and will do a chicken/lemon/olives/garlic thing for supper and roast some ( frozen) cauli and some garlic to puree into soup with stock and green split peas (now boiling away as I couldn't find any frozen peas). I may bake some bananas too. And have put a loaf on.

Despite the culinary achievements I am feeling quite crap, tbh. I will cheer up with singing practice, I hope, but may skip the writing.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/10/2016 16:20

MI - that sounds delish! People we are staying with are having a party today. I appear to be doing the catering. There is nowhere near enough food for the number of people. Have suggested getting lots of bread and cheese but they think there is plenty of food. There is enough for 20. They are expecting 80. Even if 20 don't come, there won't be enough.

motherinferior · 02/10/2016 16:22

Why the effing eff are you doing the effing cooking?

Are you staying with people who don't eat?

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/10/2016 16:50

They seem to live on takeaways, MI, and no, she doesn't cook. Or doesn't seem to. Her DH is very thin.

Shock

I am practising an inordinate amount of music, much of it within a minor third. Music by someone who hates altos.

But at least supper will be nice.

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2016 17:39

I think I need to move in with your friend, MrsS (if her DH is very thin)Grin

herbaceous · 02/10/2016 17:44

I am quaking before my pre-interview task, while DP rustles up some roast beef. I am feeling quite a lot better (no cramps or squits for five hours or so) and am hungry! Praise be.

DS on his way home in the DeathMobile. I'm getting an inkling of how parents feel when their teenage little darlings go out. Can't quite relax until they're back. And then they will inevitably annoy you instantly.

motherinferior · 02/10/2016 18:34

My teenager is chez boyfShockWink

Auriga · 02/10/2016 19:11

Afternoon listening to DH's friend ranting about his wife (who left suddenly in the spring). Seems impossible for him to entertain the idea that her flight had anything to do with his behaviour. Yet he is none the wiser about what I think, as he continually interrupted me & put words in my mouth.

Thank heaven we had to walk DDog or I might .

Makes me appreciate DH.

The Baddiel's show is wonderful. It did make me cry, proper sobbing at the end but in a way I can't describe. It was partly a kind of sadness that it was over & not wanting to leave, because I felt close to something lovely about my own Mum & Dad.

herbaceous · 02/10/2016 19:43

Auriga I'm welling up just with you saying that.

Just by your telling I think we can all see why your friend's wife left him. Though when the light will pierce his carapace of denial who can tell.

Needless to say, DS arrived home safe and sound. Covered in chocolate, and eating the contents of his party bag.

Auriga · 02/10/2016 20:22

Yes, Herbs, I didn't need a stretcher (thought of you) but DH had to cuddle me a lot in the rain on the Strand. At the end, he told stories that audience members have shared with him about their parents, one of which really hit a nail on the head about DMum. There were so many of us in the audience with parents (or family members) who are affected & the theatre, as well as the show, feels intimate.

Glad DS is home. Hate cars without seat-belts (autocorrect suggested changing that to 'deal-breaker, interestingly)

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 02/10/2016 20:40

I'm glad you enjoyed the show, Auriga. I heard him talking about it on the radio the other day and it sounded amazing. I hope he takes it out into the regions. It's hard to get back here after an evening show. He must be emotionally exhausted after each performance.

We've had a tiring weekend as usual, all plans made and then thrown up in the air, just to send my blood pressure up the spout again. I might slump in bed tomorrow, assuming all peeps go to school....

hattymattie · 02/10/2016 20:41

We are back from our mega Cambridge/York back to Paris road trip. Am absolutely exhausted but both DD's are installed and happy. DD2 seems to have really nice people in her student house and hasn't over indulged during Fresher's week which is great - I'm just hoping she enjoys her course now. Will catch up properly tomorrow - I'm going to watch Poldark and go to bed.

Did manage to nab some cool winter boots in Cambs though plus 300 thread count pillow cases at TK Maxx for DD2 for £6 each (equivalent £34 at The White Company).

Auriga · 02/10/2016 20:47

Welcome to a bed here, if you want to see it in London Beachy (offer also open to other crêpes). We have a great spare room now.

Blackduck · 02/10/2016 21:11

Id love to see it.

Beachy hope all is okay.
Here busiest week of the year commences (with added stress)

herbaceous · 03/10/2016 08:34

Seems I was prematurely optimistic re cessation of hostilities in my intestines. Am Immodium-ed up to the ears as have to teach a class this morning. Not sure of protocol if one is sick - too late to get cover, too late to inform class. Fortunately it's the sort of lesson involving a lot of group discussion and writing, so I can sit down quite a lot!
