Is it just me that finds Cos clothes strangely shapeless?

I was just in there and everything is oversized or shapeless. Who does it actually look good on??

I'm a tall hourglass - imo their shapes suit apples. They do not accommodate boobs.

ZaraW · 11/09/2016 10:45

I think the clothes wash really well. I also kind of like that green skirt. Would be kind of boring if we liked the same thing.

Tibblesthecat · 11/09/2016 13:59

90% of their clothes are NOT absolutely shapeless. They are not fitted and the shape might not suit your body type or your taste but that doesn't equate to shapeless.

Do you really think they would be so successful if 90% of their clothes were shapeless

VHLV · 11/09/2016 14:12

Yes I do think they are successful because 90% of their clothes ARE shapeless. Women are generally so insecure they are happy with hiding their bodies.

SuckingEggs · 11/09/2016 14:17

I've seen the stuff I the shops (not just website) and it makes me look frumptastic.

SuckingEggs · 11/09/2016 14:17

Damn phone!

ZaraW · 11/09/2016 15:04

Totally disagree with VHLV I have no insecurities about my body and work hard to stay in shape now I'm in my mid 40's. If you are someone who likes body con dresses COS probably isn't going to do it for you. However I love the minimalist style and great quality and no 90% of the things they sell are not shapeless.

plimsolls · 11/09/2016 16:03

Wow vhlv what a statement!

I'm not insecure about my body thanks. I just happen to really suit cos clothes.

Floisme · 11/09/2016 16:18

I like that green skirt although it probably wouldn't flatter my hips. This thread has taken a really strange turn. People like / suit different things - who knew?

The one thing that does piss me off about Cos - especially when everyone says you have to try on first - is that there are hardly any stores outside of London.

libertydoddle · 11/09/2016 16:55

VHVL I don't like to dress in figure hugging or very fitted clothes and I'm not insecure at all about my body. Preferences about how fitted you like your clothes are dictated by all sorts of things such as cultural values about modesty, sensory issues or just a preference for a different visual aesthetic.

I love the Cos clothes I have and many of them are staples but I do think they fall down with their sizing and website. I'm lucky enough to be able to browse the shop fairly frequently. Even with loving it I have completely given up trying on their trousers and generally find the hip/waist ratio's all wrong on their skirts.

Tibblesthecat · 11/09/2016 17:07

I find Cos trousers and skirts fit perfectly. I'm 5ft 2 and badly need to lose a stone. I do not have a defined waist. I am in my early forties, and at last am confident about what suits me and accept the limitations of my body proportions.

Pre kids, I had a very defined waist and was quite slim. Anything that emphasised my waist looked good.

As I got older my style evolved, kids changed my body shape and I try not to buy 'disposable' clothes much anymore. The way I dress reflects my current lifestyle. My social life has changed from weekends of drinking with girlfriends to eating in toddler friendly restaurants. My gym routine has been replaced by pushing a buggy while stopping to pick up random sticks and stones that my kids find fascinating.

So perhaps Cos suits particular lifestyles or particular needs. I can't imagine the thirty year old me being impressed with Cos. Equally the forty year old me is no longer impressed by Zara.

HyacinthFuckit · 11/09/2016 17:18

Pre kids I was an hourglass. I now have a defined waist if you look at me from the front, but a sizeable belly so from the side I look apple-ish, if that makes sense. Shortish at five three, fattish at 14-16. I have one top from there that's amazing, Ebay find, but am wary of everything else I've ever seen from there. And not being in London I can't try on either.

mistletoe1 · 11/09/2016 17:19

I love Cos! Have never ordered online though as you really need to try things on in different sizes. I often size down. I love that they use interesting shapes and fabrics.

brewandabiscuit · 11/09/2016 17:28

I have to admit the website makes everything look shapeless, dull and unflattering. I know it's popular on here but I have never seen anything I like the look of. It's quite similar to Toast.

libertydoddle · 11/09/2016 17:37

Toast is a good comparison! I used to look at it online and wonder who on earth bought it. Then I discovered the Toast shop on Marylebone High Street and realised a lot of it looked good on me. Again sizing is bonkers there, usually need to size down.

Given that so many shops are struggling to maintain a high street presence and more and more shopping is online I think online retailers need to get better at providing accurate measurements for clothes and perhaps using models of varying sizes.

BadToTheBone · 11/09/2016 17:38

I've never heard of COS before, I'm not into clothes really. BUT I've just checked it out and I love it. I'm 5'7" with narrow hips and a b cup, carrying too much round my middle at the moment. I think this would be great for me. Anyone the same shape can tell me?

BlackSwan · 11/09/2016 17:40

Agree completely. All boxy and shapeless. only thing I bought in there was a woollen top so sheer it was like an undergarment and the finish was dreadful - unhemmed sleeves... not about to go back.

Tibblesthecat · 11/09/2016 18:38

I like Toast too but at more than twice the price, it is completely out of my budget.

ElspethFlashman · 11/09/2016 18:54

It also seems very very "office wear". I don't work in an office so I doubt I'd wear any of it in RL.

But if I was in an office I'd definitely give it a try as it looks like it'd be comfy to sit in all day.

Vvlgari · 11/09/2016 19:02

I love Toast but their sizing is so erratic that I rarely buy much from them. The lack of space in their dresses for even a moderate pair of tits is an ongoing disappointment to me.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 11/09/2016 19:45

It's not just you. It all looks shapeless and boxy to me. I'm busty and curvy, if it looks shit on the models pretty sure it'll look shit on me!

hollyisalovelyname · 11/09/2016 20:02

I love Cos. I'm an apple shape Sad.
I don't wear statement ethnic necklaces as mentioned up thread so Cos with a twist Smile

Statelychangers · 11/09/2016 20:11

I love Toast! I usually find 3-4 things a year that suit me. I love Cos but it doesn't love me!

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/09/2016 20:17

I have quite a few tops from Cos, but find their dresses don't flatter my shape particularly (small waist, bigger hips) so look a bit tent-like. We don't have a shop here, but any time I am in one I like a lot of it.

QueenSpartacusOfTheAndals · 11/09/2016 21:43

Whoever said up thread that their website doesn't do the clothes any favours wasn't kidding! If the model looks twice her size then what hope do we mere mortals have??
