I hate L'occitane shower gel - what products do you think are overrated?

(I promise I will change my username soon!)

L'occitane shower oil - horrid smell. Dove do one now and it's only £2 and smells nice!

YSL Touche Eclat - Barbara Daly one is better

Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream - is the same as lubricating stuff they use in hospitals (don't ask!)

Oh there's a few......
Liz Earle
Avene
La Roche posay (I like their sun cream though)
Molton brown
Vichy
Mac
Benefit
Clarins
No7 skin care (not make up)

There's more but I'll leave it there for now lol.
I absolutely cannot stand companies that go on and on about being suitable for sensitive skin but then contain fragrance in their products! And then have the nerve to tell me it's natural fragrance! Utter bull if it is listed as fragrance/parfum it is NOT natural!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 10/09/2016 08:08

I agree about creme de la mer too. It's sort of okay-ish, but nothing special.

megletthesecond · 10/09/2016 08:10

L'Occitane hand cream is useless. I had a free sample of it and was expecting something creamy and oily that smelt gorgeous. It was just a watery cheap cream.

CoolToned · 10/09/2016 08:11

Agree with Benefit.

WomanFromAnotherPlace · 10/09/2016 08:15

Yes to so many of these
Mine are:
Clinique face washes
Clinique toner/exfoliator things... both did nothing but aggravate acne further
While I'm here, Clinique foundation. It just seems to melt off my face. However I do love Clinique Almost Lipstick.

I'll also go with:
Kerastase Satin Bain2, no different from a cheaper argan oil type shampoo.
Eight Hour Cream

Silently That made me laugh because it's something I want to do with my sister's Benefit make up! Benefit just seems to create bronzers/foundation made of pure glitter. And yes, their mascara is fucking awful, 'They're real' is so clumpy.

Clarisonic face brush, no different to cheaper alternatives.

Yes! YSL Touche Eclat is very cakey

Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb - is it only me that can't actually smell ANYTHING from this perfume?

I like Elemis Sensitive face wash but may try the Dermalogica one prettywhite. Does it do anything for acne scarring?

Indecisivejo · 10/09/2016 08:17

Oh yes forgot about Clinique! Hate everything except their ttdo cleansing balm! Their foundations are awful.

GeneralBobbit · 10/09/2016 08:23

Yvaine it's all about the double cleanse now Grin

1wokeuplikethis · 10/09/2016 08:30

The best cleanser I've used is garnier miceller water. Better than Lancôme and clarins at getting everything off & never stings (looking at you Lancôme).

I actually love 8hr cream for really dry skin/lips & burns.

Bobbi brown foundation was wank. Slipped off my face within an hour even with primer. Talking of primers I haven't found any as good as body shop instablur.

Any mascara that isn't loreal telescopic.

cosytoaster · 10/09/2016 08:31

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and Estee Lauder Night Repair neither made any difference whatsoever. I now use barely any products and my skin is fine.

1wokeuplikethis · 10/09/2016 08:31

Also agree Clinique cleansers/toners are terrible. Astringent and sore.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/09/2016 08:37

Agree that it is all about marketing. Also, cosmetics, face creams etc aren't actually allowed to do anything or else they count as medicines and have to go through much more stringent testing and approval regimes.

It would be very interesting to take exactly the same product and package it in a variety of ways that indicate perceived quality, ranging from supermarket value to luxury brands and see how people rate them.

Or take the products and mix them up so you don't know what it actually is - tell people that Aldi is Clinique and vice versa.

Blueisthemagicnumber · 10/09/2016 08:38

I also found Alpha H liquid gold did nothing for me.

Have tried various cleansing balms, and while they do take all my make up off easily, they also give me odd spots, so I am going back to cream.

pinkieandperkie · 10/09/2016 08:39

Milton brown shower gel

Aveda shampoo and conditioner

SerenDippitee · 10/09/2016 08:43

Yvaine are you using a face cloth?

crayfish · 10/09/2016 08:47

If you have sensitive skin I would stay away from Liz Earle C&P - the menthol or eucalyptus in it really bothered my skin.

I really rate Superdrug radiant hot cloth cleanser (green tube). It's about a fiver but it's always half price or two for one, it's better than much more expensive hcc's I've tried.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/09/2016 09:13

A few years ago they changed the formula of Liz Earle, cut out the almond oil and upped the menthol stuff- crap now and irritating I agree.

Just linking this thread for anyone who's interested in a cleanser for sensitive skin - best I've found!

Ledkr · 10/09/2016 09:27

Is had a sample of the Clarins primer (funny name I can't remember) and it was lovely, really matified my post holiday shines face and smoothed out my lines. Trouble is its 26 quid, anyone know what's in it and whether I can get a cheaper alternative 😳

MrsT2007 · 10/09/2016 10:24

Benefit make up. Overpriced rubbish.
Molton Brown. They all stink, and are how much? No ta.
Clinique face care system. My poor, poor face!!
Fake tans. All of them. Personal as I'm massively allergic to every single one!

I now use avene (cystic acne) after oil cleansing which is helping (slowly) and gets my make up off properly.

Ooh and bargain seekers, try the essence range in Wilko. Honestly. Staggeringly good for the price. The mattifying powder and mascara are both brill.

Ledkr · 10/09/2016 10:45

I quite like benefit but I'm worried that I'm deluded now.
The it's real eyeliner is the only one I've ever found that doesn't transfer onto my upper eyelid.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2016 11:34

The No7 tubing mascara Hmm

coconut oil

aragon oil

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/09/2016 11:54

I agree about Wilkos products- best nail varnishes EVER and eye make up remover for 99p which removes everything even water proof with barely any swiping.

littlepooch · 10/09/2016 11:54

Pixi glow tonic - made my happy skin break out.

Anything by Molton brown - I don't get what's so special about it. I used to work in buying for a department store and we used to get crates of the stuff at Christmas come through which we would sell in the post Christmas sale - and in my opinion that was the best place for it. It's just cheap stuff over priced and hyped.

Molecule perfume - I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't get it- it smells weird on everyone in my opinion.

Agree re benefit - though I do love the they're real mascara.

Colab dry shampoo - no difference to batiste.

I also bought at great expense some Sarah chapman skincare when every blogger and their dog was raving about it. I honestly couldn't see any difference so went back to my trusty Estée Lauder and LRP.

balkanscot · 10/09/2016 12:00

I used to love me a bit of Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish. However, have gone off it since it got taken over by Avon (?). But it was great in the good old early days of Liz flogging it via QVC. Blush

Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream - I absolutely HATE it but still I keep reading how wonderful it is. Hmm The smell (boak), the texture… Envy - not envy, just yuck!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/09/2016 12:06

Whoever thought up 8 hour cream is genius- Vaseline and citronellaGrin
