I hate L'occitane shower gel - what products do you think are overrated?

(I promise I will change my username soon!)

L'occitane shower oil - horrid smell. Dove do one now and it's only £2 and smells nice!

YSL Touche Eclat - Barbara Daly one is better

Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream - is the same as lubricating stuff they use in hospitals (don't ask!)

I don't mind the smell of a Lush shop (and it makes them easy to find Grin )

I've not had any sucess with their shower/bath products but I love Ultrabland.
I buy their Henna, my hair has never been better.
Soft, thick and chocolate brown.

ZaraW · 11/09/2016 12:23

Philip Kingsley Elssticiser did nothing for my hair
Footner it peeled my skin apart from the hard bits I wanted removing.
LUSH henna overrated I mix my own and results are much better.

youredeadtomesteven · 11/09/2016 12:51

Benefit Porefessional - absolutely shit. Actually all benefit primers seem to do fuck all.

Simple eye makeup remover - greasy and a pain in the ass. I recently picked up a 125ml bottle of Garnier Micellar water in £land and it takes everything off, and uses less cotton pads.

Original source shower gel. The only one I can use is the raspberry&vanilla as all the others irritate my fanjo.

Batiste dry shampoo - don't understand the hype when it's scented talcum powder in a can.

KentMum2008 · 11/09/2016 12:59

I hate face products in general. I buy a £3 bar of black mud soap from boots which lasts for aaaaaages and a very basic Garnier oil free moisturiser. That's it. I used to spend a fortune on facials at the salon and used Clinique 3 step on my face, and suffered with bad skin for years. Went on a bit of money saving stint a while back and switched to the products I mentioned above. 3 years later and I haven't had a spot or an episode of dry skin since!

woodhill · 11/09/2016 13:12

L'occitaine soaps are lovely though.

KentMum2008 · 11/09/2016 14:22

Also agree with dry shampoo, just makes my hair flyaway and weird looking!

Shop · 11/09/2016 14:31

Leviticus I love the deep cleansing fix too. I got an email from nip & fab a couple of weeks ago saying it was now an online exclusive so I don't think it will reappear in superdrug or boots. They did have it on offer with free delivery though :)

Leviticus · 11/09/2016 21:23

Thanks Shop I'll sign up to their emails.

Kennington · 11/09/2016 21:29

8 hour cream is pointless Vaseline, as is creme de la met which is just baby oil, Vaseline and a bit of seaweed
Most shampoos are ridiculous and 95 percent have the same ingrediants so I always go cheap
All high end mascara
I read the ingredients like a mad person on a mission

dudsville · 11/09/2016 21:36

Anything, usually lotions, that come in metal tubing. Pain in the ass to use a tube up completely.

LadySpratt · 11/09/2016 21:42

Clinique DDML was terrible and I used it for so many years out of 'brand loyalty'. Switched to Decléor with super results (my mother praised my skin - a rarity as she comments on all things negative).
John Freida curly hair stuff - makes hair crunchy and dull. Switched to Shu Uemura shampoo and conditioner and MoroccanOil curl control mousse. It must be better since my husband instantly noticed the difference. Grin

karalime · 11/09/2016 21:55

Yes to Liz Earle c&p. A massive pump bottle has been passed around the women of my family and we all hated it, so I left it to my housemate when I moved.

Micellar water, removes fuck all. I like my goth eyeliner and brows, jojoba/olive oil does the job for a fraction of the price and doesn't make my eyes sting.

Primer. Every single one rubs off my face in little balls errghh

user1471456822 · 11/09/2016 22:33

I hate anything that comes in a pump action tube as I always break them by, ahem, vigorous pumping. Then I can't get the stuff out.

YY to simple eye make up remover. I think it used to be good. Or maybe my mascara is more stubborn now. Anyhow, I use that nivea 2 tone one, with the blue oil in the top. All comes off smoothly and yet doesn't leave eyes oily (PITA if trying to read in bed afterwards)

I agree that Body Shop Wonderblur is much better than every other primer I have tried. It makes your face feel really silky as well - only drawback is I sit there stroking my cheeks like a crazy person Grin Dr Feelgood by Benefit does the same thing for twice the price. Agree Benefit is rubbish although I do still use their brow zing to paint my over-plucked eyebrows back on!

LadyMoth · 12/09/2016 10:03

Molton Brown again! Hate it. None of it smells like anything in particular, just stinky and horrible, and the prices are eyewatering.

Judging by this thread, Molton Brown would have to win "Mumsnet slags off" instead of swears by :o

In my younger spare cash days I used to splash out on more expensive products, but since having kids and then becoming a single mum, I've spent less and less. My researches reveal that either Superdrug, M&S or Asda will do a bargain version of almost everything I ever spent a lot on. But I do love Benefit blushers.

squoosh · 12/09/2016 10:41

Molton Brown soaps. Or any mega expensive soap.

Pointless spending ££ on something that goes straight down the drain. Waitrose do similarly scented stuff for £1.

Mrs9C · 12/09/2016 10:46

Neal's Yard - fell for the hype, and was utterly disappointed in their products. I bought a whole range of them as well, not just one product.

Mrs9C · 12/09/2016 10:47

Micellar water - rubbish.

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/09/2016 10:52

I agree on Neal's Yard (I do like the packaging though). They do one stand out product for me though and that is their Wild Rose Beauty Balm, a beautiful multipurpose balm, especially gorgeous as a cleansing balm. At £38 with a 3 month shelf life (no preservatives), it is very steep though.

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/09/2016 11:08

My list -

body butter/lotions from Soap & Glory. I hate the smells they do.

Liz Earle C&P. Acne-tastic.

Clarins exfoliating toner. Irritates my skin.

NARS Sheer Glow foundation. Terrible cakey, 'visible' drying finish on my skin, no matter how I apply (sponge/fingers/brush/primer/add oil/add extra moisturisation/thin layers/one layer/tiny amount/normal amount). Horrible. I really like NARS lip products though.

Clinique extra mild facial soap. Love the TTDO balm (DD also love the TTDO oil) and their lipsticks but this stuff is astringent and rough as old boots. I demoted it clean make up brushes.

Fucking Clarisonic. Even with the sensitive head it is way too harsh for my face and def for my neck. I use it as a body brush when I can be arsed.

Amandahugandkisses · 12/09/2016 11:18

Clinique 3 step is incredible for my skin.

But agree with benefit products. They are truly awful. Just lovely packaging.
