I hate L'occitane shower gel - what products do you think are overrated?

(I promise I will change my username soon!)

L'occitane shower oil - horrid smell. Dove do one now and it's only £2 and smells nice!

YSL Touche Eclat - Barbara Daly one is better

Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream - is the same as lubricating stuff they use in hospitals (don't ask!)

I quite like it - sorted out my very sore, dry eyelids last winter.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/09/2016 12:15

I bet Vaseline would've done the sameWink

wowfudge · 10/09/2016 12:17

I tried Vaseline first because I thought the perfume in eight hour cream might sting. It did nothing apart from my eyelids puffy as well as sore.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/09/2016 12:23

Glad it works , nothing worse than sore eyes!

wowfudge · 10/09/2016 12:26

Once I got it sorted I bought richer moisturiser and I always now use night cream in winter. Can't get away with a slapdash approach these days.

MadisonMontgomery · 10/09/2016 17:25

Emma Hardie cleansing balm. Gritty & so highly perfumed it makes my eyes run.

Karcheer · 10/09/2016 17:33

Micellar water, I'm sure it's just tap water.

mammmamia · 10/09/2016 18:46

So funny about benefit i absolutely love it but the mascara is awful!
This thread has got me thinking I should try some new brands!

ephemeralfairy · 10/09/2016 19:31

Lush. With the exception of Ultrabland. I just can't get excited about the bath bombs or shower/bath stuff. They all smell the same to me and give me thrush and the cleansers leave a horrible residue on my skin.

wowfudge · 10/09/2016 19:40

I can't get over threshold of Lush for the smell. I used to buy some of their stuff back in the Cosmetics to Go days too.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 11/09/2016 08:23

Dame I believe it was invented by Elizabeth Arden to treat her horse's foot rot. (That story may be apocryphal...) Ironically it's one of the few "iconic" products that I think is worth the money! It seems to stick around a bit longer than Vaseline.

MumboNumber5 · 11/09/2016 08:29

Clinique ttdo make up remover - doesn't remove make up.
Illamasqua finishing powder/glow powder stuff - doesn't do anything.

CoteDAzur · 11/09/2016 08:29

"L'Occitane hand cream is useless. I had a free sample of it and was expecting something creamy and oily that smelt gorgeous. It was just a watery cheap cream."

FYI L'Occitane has different kinds of hand cream. That one is indeed useless. And 20% one that blib talked about is indeed very good.

CoteDAzur · 11/09/2016 08:36

"Is there a cleanser out there that actually takes off all makeup?"

Yes, soap. I use olive oil ones.

Leviticus · 11/09/2016 08:41

I absolute love a lot of the products listed here, including 8 hour.

It just shows that it's horses for courses I guess.

For the PP who asked about effective cleansing - you definitely need a flannel and warm water. Nice thick cleanser massaged into your face and neck, hold warm wrung out flannel over, good rub off, being gentle around the eyes. Repeat. Squeaky!

I like Nip and Fab Deep Cleansing Fix for a really thick cleanser. I can only find it on Amazon these days although Boots stock the rest of the N + F range.

DameDoom · 11/09/2016 08:43

L'Occitane 20% hand cream is rubbish and their shower gels do not clean your body (I shower twice a day) but their milk soap is off the chart brilliant. I cannot praise it enough. Fab stuff.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/09/2016 08:43

Cote- I'm a recent convert to soap, skin has been fantastic! I use waitrose sensitive vegetable.

DameDoom · 11/09/2016 08:46

From one Dame to another. Don't you think 8 hour has a whiff of earwax about it? Tis' a true abomination.

BennyTheBall · 11/09/2016 08:48

Lots of things on here that I like - pixi glow, liquid gold, Clarins and my mum will only use l'occitane hand cream.

Things I hate - REN. For some unknown reason, several people have bought me their shower gels and body lotions. They all STINK.

Seche Vite - it just peels off my nails.

Lush - just walking past that smelly shop makes me feel sick.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/09/2016 08:58

DD true! Grin I'm going to google the ingredients...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/09/2016 09:05

Petrolatum 56.8%,Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Salicylic Acid, Propylparaben, Castor Oil, Corn Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Iron Oxides

So basically, vaseline, castor oil and nipple cream!

dinodiva · 11/09/2016 09:05

Completely agree about Benefit mascara. It's rubbish. I also had my eyebrows done at their brow bar and got a lumpy rash on my forehead. I won't be going again - I don't particularly like looking like a Klingon.

SlinkyVagabond · 11/09/2016 09:26

Clarins Beauty flash balm, does nothing apart from taking a chunk out of my bank.
Benefit eye shadows, DM bought me a palette and my eyes were like balloons.
Clinique cleansing system-my God it's harsh. Made my combination skin red, dry and scaly.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 11/09/2016 09:54

See, I love flash balm - it's brilliant for toning my saggy cheeks. The rest I agree with slink Smile

Any shower gel. I prefer good old fashioned bars of soap.
