Changing gold coat press studs coat to silver?

I've bought a bargain coat but the press studs down the front and on pockets and also toggles are very shiny gold which I don't like. Do you think there's any way to change them to silver, or dull them down?

You can easily change the buttons but poppers are tricky little suckers! I've got a press snap applicator, it uses plastic KAM snaps which would fit in the hole left by the originals but you are at risk of damaging the fabric trying to remove them. How many are there & how gold are they? Because once the buttons are changed they might not look so gaudy? Have you got a pic?

Agree that it will be tricky to remove them without damaging the fabric. Try rubbing them gently with some fine sandpaper (taking care to avoid the fabric). This might dull the finish a bit.

How much of a bargain? Is there a spare press stud that you can experiment on? I'm thinking nail polish?
Or if you want to do a proper job depending on how the coat is made you could replace the press studs: but you would need a gadget or the services of a professional. That might not be worth it.

That's really lovely! I think the gold and blue do work but if you're anything like me then gold is a bit too..... Gold?! You're right silver would look heaps better. Maybe get blue toggles - I'm guessing they are gold too? And then try the sandpaper technique as I think those poppers would be really hard to remove

I've put on press studs both at home and in a profesional capacity.. and I wouldn't bother trying to change then. They are really hard to get off.

I was going to suggest nail varnish...there might be something you can put on them to dull the colour

I dont like gold fastening either

I bought a blue jacket, perfect apart from some really nasty decorative gold studs up the front. I couldn't work out how to prise them off, so I bought some dark blue enamel paint (I think I found it in B&Q, but you could also look in a craft shop).

I painted each one carefully with a small brush, and they virtually disappeared!

I know what you mean about gold coloured poppers and zips, they make an outfit look really cheap. River island and primark are the usual contenders.

Yes it is a shame really, I don't mind the dull matt bronze studs that you sometimes see, but bright shiny gold isn't for me.

Mine doesn't really look particularly bulky but having said that, it's a bit too small with the lining in, and tight round the arms. I'm not worried about that because I don't want to use the lining anyway. I suspect that the model is wearing the smallest size that she would fit into, and is not wearing the lining, which probably makes it look more fitted and smaller. If I put the lining in it does look a bit bulkier.
I have to say I'm not 100% in love with the coat and I would never have bought it at full price in a million years. But for the £50 that I paid, it's a great waterproof jacket which doesn't look like I bought it at Go Outdoors or somewhere like that. It will be great for rainy days for a number of years and that suits me. Do you think you'll keep yours?

I know, it is tricky. I've decided that there really aren't any properly stylish waterproof coats out there but I'm not worried about this coat being aging. I will wear it on rainy school run days when I wear a lot of boyfriend jeans and "fashion" trainers etc so I think it will look fine, really can't think of anything better as a waterproof coat and I've certainly not seen one when I've been out and about. Coats can be difficult but like anything, it's what you wear it with and how you wear it that makes it look nice or otherwise.

By the way, currently painting the million gold press studs with enamel paint and it's working a treat. Just realised though that I'll also have to tackle the opposite part of the stud too which may not be so easy!

Wool pea coat sounds nice. Totally different though! I really need a waterproof one otherwise my coat collection would consist entirely of wool coats and cotton or leather jackets, all without hoods!

Just looked at the seasalt one, it does look nice but shorter. It probably looks nicer because of that fact but I prefer a waterproof coat to cover my bum a bit. Why are coats so difficult??!!
