Your 'band' t-shirt

Saw a photo of Winona Ryder in jeans with a Tom Waits t-shirt and thought 'Aha, that's what I should wear with my high waisted jeans!'. Only problem is I don't have a cool band t-shirt. I have a Madonna t-shirt from her Drowned World tour but is that cool enough?
What cool 'band' t-shirt do you have?

Bike my DH DJed with Norman Blake a few years back, lovely bloke and very unassuming (considering that they were one of Kurt Cobain's fave bands!).

DramaAlpaca · 05/09/2016 20:03

I have a Sisters of Mercy one that I bought at a gig in Leeds in 1984.

I only wear it to sleep in now, though. I'm just happy it still fits me!

avocadosweet · 05/09/2016 20:07

Belle and Sebastian, although it doesn't fit me anymore as after 2 DC I'm no longer a skinny thing!

insancerre · 05/09/2016 20:10

I've never been into t shirts
Dh has dozens, he buys one at every gig we go to

I have 2
Muse and half man half biscuit

Me and dh play a game when we go out
The first one to spot a Ramones T-shirt shouts out hey ho, let's go!

Because thy are every bloody where
Normally being worn by people that wouldn't know a Ramones song even if it slapped them around the face with a slice of bacon

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 05/09/2016 20:11

If you wear a band t shirt be prepared for the questions, where did you see them? What's your favourite track? and so on. A bit awkward if you're not actually a fan, although you could confess you're just trying to look cool, you've never heard of them Grin

Haha. Loads here. NOFX, Descendents, lars fredereksen and the bastards, me first and the gimme gimmes, the dead pets, less than jake. Too many to list. As we both get gradually fatter i inherit DH's and he buys new ones. I should probably start saving mine for DS!

Greydog · 05/09/2016 20:22

So many Motorhead T shirts, Alice Coopers Brutal planet tour, Monsters of Rock 1985, 1982, Saxon Wheels of Steel tour, Whitesnake, Van Halen, Quo, Judas Priest - crikey, some of these are as old (older!) than my son! I also have my Royal Opera House sweatshirt to balance things out!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 05/09/2016 20:26

ive got a few, birthday massacre, bowie, smashing pumpkins, belle and sebastian, nirvana, noah and the whale, guns n roses, theres more but i cant think of them off the top of my head. I only wear band tees of bands/artists i actually like, i don't just buy them cos its fashionable thats pointless, imagine trying to bluff your way out of someone asking about your favourite bowie song, for example, if you've never listened to any!!!

FlemCandango · 05/09/2016 20:29

Sonic youth, mercury rev, the breeders, my bloody valentine, gorkys zygotic mynki, Cate le bon, cud, shrug, air, thrilled skinny, Jeff Buckley, arab strap, pj Harvey, nick cave.... I have many band tee shirts all purchased at gigs. I don't fit them all these days thanks to my humongous norks but I still wear band tee shirts regularly, not all are suitable for children thanks to swears or grown up references but I love them all.

AmberNectarine · 05/09/2016 20:33

At my parents house I probably still have slipknot and coal chamber. Lolz.

Girlwhowearsgoggle · 05/09/2016 20:39

They don't suit me but if they did the hands down top t shorts are surely Joy Division 'Unknown Pleasures' album cover (the one with the contoured white lines ) and Led Zeppelin 'tour of America 1977' (the one won the angel wings)

I really wish if bought original tour t shirts in my gig days. Nirvana headlining Reading 1992 would be great

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/09/2016 20:48

I haven't got any. Got rid of them all years ago and still miss them - don't know what the hell I was thinking of.

My favourites were:
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
The Wedding Present - a balloons one and an All The Songs Sound the Same one
Jesus and Marychain - Happy When It Rains
Birdland

BallerinaBecky · 05/09/2016 21:00

I do listen to some of them- Waits, Morrissey, Dylan, Whote Stripes etc. I've been to their concerts among many others but I never bought the tshirts as I spent my money on tickets back then.

BallerinaBecky · 05/09/2016 21:01
  • White Stripes even
charliedontsurf · 05/09/2016 21:04

I got a Danzig tshirt from h&m recently! Moootheeeerrrr!

Definitely don't buy a tshirt of a band you haven't heard of/listened to.

hollieberrie · 05/09/2016 21:12

My colleague has this Justin Bieber tshirt from Topshop.
It actually looks great, i have been considering it Blush

BallerinaBecky · 05/09/2016 21:16

Of course people listen to them, nobody on this thread said they didn't????!!!

SummoningDark · 05/09/2016 21:25

Hanging out with Flem
Breeders,Neil Young, Dinosour Jr, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Beastie Boys, Pavement, Pixies
Although some are not suitable for public viewing due to being stretched beyond recognition and 25 a few years old

justanothermnuser · 05/09/2016 21:26

I have a JLS shirt from my first gig I went to (nostalgia!) I have got one from every gig that I've been to since that had shirts available! Off the top of my head I have: JLS, McFly, The Midnight Beast, One Direction, Room 94 (x4 or so), Sleeping With Sirens (I didn't see them because we had to leave to get the train haha) and others that I can't think of right now. I also have Nirvana ones, The Beatles, Bowie, Blondie, Guns n Roses etc which is the music I'm into now as I have matured haha 😂

LivinOnAChair · 05/09/2016 21:28

Slipknot, Alter Bridge, Korn, Black Label Society, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Tenacious D, System of a Down, Alexisonfire and loads more

Seen them all except Nirvana (Kurt Cobain died when I was 2 Sad)

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/09/2016 11:17

I have loads of band t shirts I've bought over the years - mainly at concerts, but as I'm big in the boob department a lot of them give me an awful shape so they are worn as pyjamas.

My favourites are all about 15+ years old now - smashing pumpkins, offspring, foo fighters etc. and don't get worn very much for fear of them disintegrating (that said I did wear my Zero t shirt the other day)

I good online shop for band t shirts is pulp clothing. I would avoid the cliche ones like Ramones, guns and roses and Nirvana unless you are actually a fan. Pick a band/ artist you like and get a t shirt with them in it. I think primark have some David Bowie and Prince ones in just now.

burnishedsilver · 06/09/2016 11:23

Primark have Ramones t shirts - aimed at a generation who have no idea who the Ramones are.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/09/2016 11:24

link to t shirts

MardAsSnails · 06/09/2016 11:32

I've got multiple take that t shirts but I don't think they count

I think my favourite is my oasis at main road one from 1994

Other than that, motley crue, Alice cooper, Metallica, Aerosmith, prince, the who, all from gigs we've been to.

I'm not cool enough to wear them as a trendy stylish thing though. I wear them cos I like the bands and I'm a geek.
