What are you hoping to find now the A/W stuff is coming into the shops?

I'm after a proper old fashioned denim mini (not too mini though!) skirt, straight not A-line and no buttons. I realise that this is far from being 'in' but I like them.

I also want some really lovely big scarves - ideally a burnt orange one, a bright pink one and a red one.

Also, a pleated red skirt and the perfect grey v neck jumper.

You?

Just out of curiousity, what exactly is spandex material in clothing? Just that I saw a nice burgundy/deep reddish v-neck top that says 94% cotton 4% spandex. Just wondering if that would still be good quality?

CallarMorvern · 25/08/2016 00:32

Plain scoop neck long sleeve T shirts in a really nice quality cotton. The neck mustn't be too scooped and the length needs to be not to long and not too short Grin. They won't shrink in the dryer or go short and wide.

Secondly I'd like another pair of my Emu boots, I've never seen another pair for sale. They are warm and comfy, totally waterproof and have a chunky hardwearing sole. I have brown ones, but would like a black pair. They may actually be men's boots.

Asfaik, it's another name for Lycra.

Floisme · 25/08/2016 06:51

Nice tartan skirt. Is it just me or is M&S Collection looking a bit more modern these days?

I'm always a bit Hmm about spandex/lycra with cotton. I think, if it's good cotton, there shouldn't be any need for it. But everyone's doing it.

Remus:

seasalt, gasp!

Neither particularly mini mind.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/08/2016 07:47

I've just ordered that Tartan skirt in both lengths to try (grey) so will report back.

Catdogcat · 25/08/2016 08:37

Over knee heeled black boots ideally with a lace up detail either on front or back, that will fit longish (5"8) skinny (size 6-8) legs. I can only manage to get one or the other, and I have really wide feet just to add to the fun.

Mustard fine knit jumper.

A line black denim skirt.

BristolLFR · 25/08/2016 08:49

Bah, always the way remus!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2016 09:17

Thanks for the denim skirt links. Some of them I've already tried and rejected. I don't think I'm going to bother looking anymore - maybe the perfect one will find me, just when I'm least expecting it!

I saw a mustard jumper earlier this week, Cat. Can't remember where but it would almost certainly have been in M&S or John Lewis. No idea of the fabric or shape - I just saw it out of the corner of my eye.

Spandex content in cotton can be good or bad, and it's hard to tell in advance. Sometimes a little bit of it just means that the t-shirts hold their shape better on washing. Sometimes though, it shines through the cotton and makes it look cheap, or makes the clothes feel unpleasantly clingy, even if they are the right fit.

remus ah ok. It was online. I might just avoid it then. I find myself having to look at every label of clothing when I go to the shops. They all seem to be made of cheap fabric these days, even in the more higher brand shops. I have a couple of cheapish tops but like I said that's because I have a baby and I'm not bothered about it getting ruined. Its hard to invest in quality clothing apart from cashmere but I only wear that in winter.

Cellardoor23 · 25/08/2016 11:31

I have a few 100 % cotton tops that I wear at the moment that I got from j crew and jigsaw that are nice though.

JohnCheese · 25/08/2016 12:03

Having been reluctant to dive in to A/W, i am now beginning to dip my toe in. Only because I have to, mind. Still a bit peed off with the poor summer and am holding a grudge against the weather gods.

Anyway, never mind my inner wranglings. Really like the grey version of the M&S skirt. This Whistles skirt piqued my A/W interest. Shocking price tho. Would be v uselful. 25% off would be £135, right? Still a lot. But...

Whyarethebestnamestaken · 25/08/2016 12:12

I really like the tartan skirt from Marks but am a jeans or leggings person. What would you wear with a skirt like that, I like the grey one best.

I am thinking a fine knit jumper maybe as don't like things tucked in?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2016 12:24

I'd wear the tartan skirt with either back opaques and a plain black t-shirt or poloneck, plus denim or biker jacket and boots for casual. Or with opaques, plain top and black jacket for work. Then again, that's pretty much how I wear everything!

For those who like colour, grey tights and brown boots, plus a chunky cable knit jumper in one of the colours from the tartan could like nice.

Whistles stuff seems to be getting more ridiculously priced every season. Love this but over a hundred quid for a tiny bit of polyester. Insane!

callar I have this scoop neck top in dark grey. It's not too low and fits fine across the shoulders, not baggy. The sleeve length isn't too long or short either. It's been in the wash a few times and it's kept its shape and colour.

squoosh · 25/08/2016 13:09

£110 for a scrap of polyester is insane.

EnidButton · 25/08/2016 13:34

Whistles needs to sort their pricing out. so I can buy it all

Same with Mint Velvet. I get it, they're trying to be upmarket or whatever but the fabrics should reflect that too and they don't. I'd have bought so much from both by now if it was even just a leetle bit cheaper.

EnidButton · 25/08/2016 13:36

Talking of cheaper places, have you seen Next's A/W catalogue? We got one left so I had a flick and wtf is going on with the styling? The models look like they had a jumble of stuff thrown at them. I don't like Next anyway but this was another level of Confused.

HermiioneSnape02 · 25/08/2016 14:00

Can I join. I'm looking for a fit and flare winter coat or Mac if anyone has spotted one?
I have for a couple of years been ummy over a pair of brown brogues. Went shopping for sixth form suits with DD this morning and got these. Just hope they don't rub me ....

What are you hoping to find now the A/W stuff is coming into the shops?
Nearlyadoctor · 25/08/2016 18:16

Really need some grey opaque's but can't find any anywhere except grey melange from Hush. M&S have them but in a mixed set with burgundy and green I think, Boden grey and burgundy set. I only want the grey......

Nearlyadoctor · 25/08/2016 18:22

I have ordered this in, black mix, cinnamon and the burgundy all to try with the grey tartan skirt. Ordered cinnamon and burgundy as unsure from the image whether the colouring in it was more red or orange tinged. ( Already have similar in black). Planning to wear with opaque's and biker jacket as Remus said.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2016 18:36

I like those brogues, Hermione. I really like the look of brown brogues with skrts, but not sure I could pull them off. Am short and a size 12, so maybe not sufficiently Bambi-legged.

15% code for white company has just come with my catalogue

AM811 if anyone wants anything from there? Valid til 18 oct

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2016 18:39

Am v cross with The White Company. Have just ruined my black jersey dress from there, by chucking nail varnish all over it (although I admit, it was on its last legs anyway). They don;t seem to be doing the lovely basic jersey dresses anymore.
