I'm after a proper old fashioned denim mini (not too mini though!) skirt, straight not A-line and no buttons. I realise that this is far from being 'in' but I like them.

I also want some really lovely big scarves - ideally a burnt orange one, a bright pink one and a red one.

Also, a pleated red skirt and the perfect grey v neck jumper.

You?

And thanks copper - good to hear you were happy with it.

Floisme · 24/08/2016 18:53

Tried a load more walking-to-work-in-the-rain coats on today. This Seasalt one isn't bad: there are tabs at the waist (not fastened in pic) that give it a bit of shape. It's knee length, colour ok and I prefer slanty pockets. So really it ticks all my boxes plus they've got an offer on. But I'm just not feeling it. Even with 20% off it feels like a lot of money for 'isn't bad.' And I'm always suspicious when even the model won't fasten it up.

But enough about me. Oy remus! they had some denim skirts in Next: above the knee and looked pretty straight up and down. Can't see them on the website though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2016 19:07

Don't like that Seasalt coat, sorry. It looks very 'sensible' which may be a good thing, but even sensible can look better than that, I think.

Will look in Next - cheers. I tried another one on today and hated it, so maybe the problem is more with me than the skirts. Or maybe I need to wait until I'm wearing tights and boots, and then try on, rather than looking at them with my less attractive than they used to be bare legs!

I did buy a silk leopard print top today though, which I'm pleased with.

You're right.
Thank you. Chocolate

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2016 19:19

You just don't strike me as a Seasalt coat kind of gal. Grin

witsender · 24/08/2016 19:26

I have that Seasalt coat, and do love it. It is quite sensible, but for what I use it for, dog walks and not much else that's fine. Smart walk to work maybe not. It is super toasty and good quality though.

Floisme · 24/08/2016 19:31

Not I'm not Grin
However I'm also a lazy bastard and the only exercise I ever take is walking to walk. So I desperately need a coat so I'm not tempted to jump on a bus every time it's siling it down

taybert · 24/08/2016 19:35

I'm not feeling the Seasalt coat either (though I do like some Seasalt stuff). What's it for? If just dog walking as above then I'd go for one of the cheaper outdoor brands (which are surprisingly good nowadays) and save some money for a coat you love.

Not that I'm very good at coats mind.

So, this time last year I was over a stone heavier. This is my first winter in about 5 years I'm my normal size due to various pregnancies, post partum ness etc. I'm also now a completely different shape, and, truth be told, at a completely different stage in my life (in a good way).

So, I need lovely autumn/winter things! Wool coat, skirts, dresses and jumpers. I'm thinking I'll start off with the burgundy hush ruched skirt.

Floisme · 24/08/2016 19:39

Thanks witsender I think you've nailed it - I'd like something that kind of quality but a bit smarter.

taybert · 24/08/2016 19:40

Oh, sorry, just saw its for walking to work. Hmm.

Floisme · 24/08/2016 19:44

Thanks too taybert. It's for walking but mostly to and from walk and around town (so not really for country walks - I don't do country).

I have other coats that I do love but I live in the north so for 2 or 3 months every year it pretty much rains every day and I've nothing suitable. I normally end up buying a piece of junk from TK Maxx to get me through the winter but I had this idea that this year, I'd spend a bit more and get something with a bit more quality but also a bit of style....

Gillybobs · 24/08/2016 19:52

Is the Boden fleece lined mac no good Flo? In plain black of course!!

Floisme · 24/08/2016 19:57

I'll take another look Gilly but I think the Boden one is either straight up and down or A line and I'd like something a bit more fitted. But thanks.

taybert · 24/08/2016 19:58

I also live in The North. Next to hills so lots and lots of rain. It's very rural though so if I'm outside for any length of time "outdoors" stuff is perfectly acceptable (normal). If I'm going anywhere, including work, it's a car journey really so impractical is fine. It's a shame that practical and stylish so rarely combine well.
I want some cashmere this year. Good places? Is a bit of synthetic in the mix good for longevity or am I thinking of carpets?

BristolLFR · 24/08/2016 20:00

Ooh, where's the shirt from remus?

DailyFailAteMyFish · 24/08/2016 20:06

Floisme, Uniqlo have a raincoat:
www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/186996?r=7711452077047206919
But I can't vouch for the waterproofness. I have an ultralight down water defender however that puts up with the neverending winter rain here.
Have you looke at the Merrell Ellenwood? It is the successor to the wakefield that used to win the 'bum covering waterproof coat' debates.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2016 20:22

Bristol - it's a charity shop find. Old M&S Autograph, from when their stuff was really good! Remember when they had Autograph Essentials/Weekend etc? This one is an Essentials one - it's basically like the Boden Ravello but with a better hem and in leopard print.

OP posts:
Floisme · 24/08/2016 20:30

Daily thanks. The Uniqlo is another that's a bit too straight up and down - I need my clothes to have a bit of shape these days. But the Merrell looks as if it might be fitted and therefore more promising.

Of course if I was less vain and shallow I'd be more concerned about staying dry than looking good. Grin

DailyFailAteMyFish · 24/08/2016 20:54

Np! I have the Wakefield and it is beautifully fitted and has a nice shape. I loved it so much I bought the insulated version.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2016 23:24

Just seen this Tartan. Has anybody seen it irl? I have a similar red one already, but quite fancy another colour.

OP posts:
EnidButton · 24/08/2016 23:29

I like that in the grey Remus. Especially like that there's two slightly different lengths to choose from as they're often ever so slightly longer than I'd like.

EnidButton · 24/08/2016 23:29

So many likes there. 🙄 I must really like it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2016 23:33
Grin

I'll try to have a look at it irl at some point and report back.
