I'm after a proper old fashioned denim mini (not too mini though!) skirt, straight not A-line and no buttons. I realise that this is far from being 'in' but I like them.

I also want some really lovely big scarves - ideally a burnt orange one, a bright pink one and a red one.

Also, a pleated red skirt and the perfect grey v neck jumper.

You?

I've kept a couple of velvet jackets and a beautiful long velvet and patchwork skirt. I really hope I get to wear it again, it's one of my all time favourite items.

Love that Zara dress but fear it needs someone more petite than me.

Ginslinger · 04/09/2016 18:51

I have white company t-shirts that are at least 5 years old - they wash brilliantly and don't get those holes in them that every other t-shirt i get does.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/09/2016 19:13

Damn - I got a denim mini skirt, thanks. That one looks lovely but it was a mini that I was after.

Gin - I know they will be good quality but I need several and can't bring myself to stump up over sixty English pounds, on just a couple of t-shirts.

no - that's true - they should let us pay them off over 5 years

doctorboo · 04/09/2016 19:20

Thumbs up 👍🏻 cellar would you mind posting a pic

doctorboo · 04/09/2016 19:31

I'm tempted to dig out a pic of me in my black spaghetti strap dress teamed with a white tshirt underneath it and clumpy 4 inch heeled Kickeresque shoes.
I also loved a waistcoat, velvet and chokers.

DamnGood314 · 04/09/2016 19:43

I still have kickers and a waistcoat!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 04/09/2016 19:54

I have a real hankering for a velvet jacket but I'm also dreaming of a floor-length wool coat which is fitted to the waist. My inner teenager still wants to be a goth...

On a more practical note, I'm looking for some smart trousers which can crossover from home to work. Seen a couple of potentials but I have a real issue finding ones which fit me properly and aren't too long. 'Regular' length now seems too long for me and petite looks ridiculously short!

Cellardoor23 · 04/09/2016 19:57

This is it here

It's lovely to carry. Not heavy and awkward like my Ted Baker bag which digs into my shoulder. Exactly what I wanted Smile

What are you hoping to find now the A/W stuff is coming into the shops?
Floisme · 04/09/2016 20:06

It probably will be on me too, doctorboo but I'm still tempted to try it. I rather fancy a 1950s sewing pattern look for autumn.

DinosaursRoar · 04/09/2016 21:54

Erm, just found these on Sainsburys website - £40 for light tan leather ankle boots seems pretty good to me, are they very mumsy and has anyone seen them in real life? (Also need some black ankle boots and a winter coat that's below my knee to cover that annoying couple of inches of dress flapping out the bottom of my other coats)

JohnCheese · 04/09/2016 22:01

Nice skirt Remus.
Bought this black jumper today. There's some viscose in it which I hate, but I like the jumper more that I hate the viscose. The shopping scales of decision. Here's hoping it doesn't shrink in the wash.

EnidButton · 05/09/2016 03:19

I bought a few bits from Hush, French Connection and &Other stories yesterday but looking back over it there's not one full outfit there.

I can find pieces I like but seem to struggle putting it all together or with buying one full outfit.

Could just be not everything's in yet like jumpers for example but any tips on how to shop more efficiently? Especially online. (If that makes sense. I'm very tired)

P1nkP0ppy · 05/09/2016 04:07

I'm in a mither, 62, size 14 newly retired and completely lost as to what to wear now I no longer need a corporate image 😳😡
I have too many clothes and am completely clueless.
What should I be looking for this autumn?

DinosaursRoar · 05/09/2016 11:03

P1nkP0ppy - I found the transition from working in a smart business environment to being a SAHM really hard - I'd never really spent a lot of money on my weekend wardrobe, which was basically jeans and long sleeved t-shirts & trainers, or adding a jumper in the mid-winter - it's taken a while to find my style (and stopping myself from automatically looking at the suit dresses when shopping!).

What's your personal style now?

DamnGood314 · 05/09/2016 13:14

i've found my style, i just can't find the clothes at the right price!

DamnGood314 · 05/09/2016 13:18

Actually, don't all laugh but VB influenced me to ditch patterns and wear clothes more fitted than I had previously and to keep things simple.
I also look for 'design classics' and I love plain things that have a 60s neckline. Or 40s puffed sleeves. Or a classic 70s mini. Different days though. I don't mix decades in the one outfit.

Also, blair waldorf. I'm like a much more sedate version of Blair. But I love a belted coat in a strong colour.

DamnGood314 · 05/09/2016 13:18

That's how I see it. Wine

P1nkP0ppy · 05/09/2016 13:20

I am pretty much where you are DinosaursRoar, and am dressed in jeans and long sleeve tee shirts - and I know exactly what you mean about looking at suit dresses!
I think part of the problem is too many clothes if I'm honest. I have umpteen shirts, cardigans and jumpers but tend to pull on the same old ones. Perhaps a rigorous clear out might be a good start (and hope I don't regret getting rid of 'stuff')
I did a kondo last year but I seem to have randomly bought yet more.....😳

Underparmummy · 05/09/2016 14:21

I have just ordered some black jeans, a sisley wool hooded jacket (need a hood, not sure about another parka) and some pink iridescent new balances from asos.
Hoping the sisley coat colour is ok as the style looks amazing.
Then I need to stop and assess, my wardrobe is bursting at the seams as well.

EnidButton · 05/09/2016 15:02

Anyone seen any casual dresses? Short with sleeves to wear with leather jacket, opaques and black boots or booties? Seems such a simple thing but nope, none anywhere that aren't going out out dresses or workwear.

Mamia15 · 05/09/2016 15:07

Desperately seeking grey/mink suede boots - low to medium heel, ankle or calf length. Have looked in Clarks, Jones, M&S to no avail :(

P1nkP0ppy · 05/09/2016 15:10

Mamia15 have you tried Schoon or Duo?
I bought a pair of ankle boots like that from Schoon last year.

doctorboo · 05/09/2016 15:31

Loooove the bag cellar

My (3) m&s denim skirts arrived, the light wash 12 fits fine. I'll keep the 10 for next year, but I wish I'd also gone for dark in a 10 also as it'd look better over wintertime I think.
I also got some silky navy floral shorts for next Summer and I still have a peach tshirt to try on, which I think would look nice with a green or grey jumper/cardi.

Floisme · 05/09/2016 17:25

Ok opinions please. Do I carry on scouring the earth (and boring everyone to death) for a bad weather coat I actually like? Or do I get this for 40 quid?

It has a hood, is knee length (not on model but on me) and is neither black nor jaunty which are all the things I won't budge on. Has anyone else got it?

I ought to add, I have form for this. The last time I owned a decent, sensible coat was when my mum was still buying.

Context: it's for walking to work, nothing corporate, just needs to be functional and reasonably presentable but let's face it, will get worn a lot.
