I'm after a proper old fashioned denim mini (not too mini though!) skirt, straight not A-line and no buttons. I realise that this is far from being 'in' but I like them.

I also want some really lovely big scarves - ideally a burnt orange one, a bright pink one and a red one.

Also, a pleated red skirt and the perfect grey v neck jumper.

You?

Baaaaad clothes flo (well, I did - patchwork trousers, "hippy" tops, velvet dresses and micro minis)

DamnGood314 · 03/09/2016 20:09

Yeh , nineties clothes a bit dull. I was watching Spotlight and at first i didn't notice the film was set in the 90s, I just thought the clothes were weirdly loose, frumpy, masculine......

Floisme · 03/09/2016 20:11

Nope, still can't remember a thing about them (till my son was born right at the end). Must have been having a good time Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/09/2016 20:59

I loved the 90s!

V short skirts
Black tights
Docs
Crushed velvet dresses with low backs
Slip dresses
Hats
Lace
More velvet
Huge jumpers worn with just tights and DMs
I even had a cape! Grin

I thought I was very smart in the 90's when I wore one of my collection of waistcoats.

That said I'd love velvet Blazers to make a come back. I loved mine.

MumboNumber5 · 03/09/2016 21:23

Oooh yes, I would team a waistcoat with a long floral skirt and doc martens. Blush

BestIsWest · 03/09/2016 21:45

I had a suede waistcoat that I wore with a long flowery skirt and Victorian style lac up ankle boots. I thought I was the business.

EnidButton · 03/09/2016 21:46

I wore everything Remus wore. Plus a bowler hat, round Lennon sunglasses, chokers, an inflatable bag and body glitter because I was the coolest. 🙄😄 I looked great, genuinely, but I don't want to wear it again.

BestIsWest · 03/09/2016 21:46

Also, bodies. Or was that the 80's?

EnidButton · 03/09/2016 21:46

I welcome velvet back though.

BestIsWest · 03/09/2016 21:47

I should add, I was in my 30s for most of the 90s so probably should have known better.

SpaghettiMeatballs · 03/09/2016 21:58

Bodies definitely survived into 90's. Got a pic of me in one in 1994. I don't need them to come back. I was a teeny tiny size 6 in '94 and now I'm.... Not!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/09/2016 22:56

I have a feeling there will be some velvet blazers in the shops soon.

I'd forgotten about waistcoats. I also had long tassled hippy skirts and velvet jackets, including some with bells on!

God yes I do remember now. I spent all my money on vintage bias cut dresses and wore them with docs and a feather boa. I didn't have a winter coat then either so some things haven't changed.

EnidButton · 04/09/2016 00:33

Oh god the feather boas! I'd forgotten about those. Blush

ccgirr · 04/09/2016 06:07

Velvet blazer sounds good to meHmm

SimplyNigella · 04/09/2016 08:28

The 90s fashion in the shops fills me with horror as my teenage fashion is now considered retro which makes me feel ancient.

Pinafore dresses, bodies, DM boot, baggy sweatshirts with cream jeans and platform shoes with over the knee socks for Saturday nights. Great when I was 16, not so great on me now.

Back to the original topic, I have given up on the v neck jumper hunt. I have tried on squillions and none of them look like I want them to in my head- they either look too fitted and school uniform like or so slouchy that they are unflattering. I have come to the conclusion that they just don't suit me like I want them to so am redirecting my funds elsewhere.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/09/2016 15:01

Must admit I'm really liking some of the 90s inspired shoes out now, and will almost certainly be buying a pair or two.

Checked out Hush in John Lewis today, but didn't like anything enough to buy. It seemed v expensive for stuff that felt really thin. I'd hoped I'd be able to find a couple of plain t-shirts in nice Autumnal colours at least.

Tried on and likedthis skirt in M&S. It's really nice - dp loved it! No idea why they've described it as a midi skirt - it's definitely mini!

Has anybody tried their cheapo long sleeved cotton t shirts? They are just what I need (well, black at least!) but they didn't look as if they'd wash/hold their shape very well. Or has anybody seen any similar? I don't mind them being more expensive, but probably not White Company expensive, as I need several. Black - maybe other colours too - three quarter or long sleeves.

Saw these beauties but can't possibly afford them.

Really liked these too, but Dune boots are always awkwardly sized for my awkward feet.

That skirt is lovely. I would wear that with a sixties style jumper. The tassled boots that appeared in the side bar when I clicked on the skirt link are lovely.

I have a denim waistcoat and I wore it with jeans and a white t-shirt only recently. I'll resurrect soon.

Nearlyadoctor · 04/09/2016 17:42

Per Una had velvet blazer/ jackets in today!!

Floisme · 04/09/2016 18:25

Good grief you're right Doctor I bet I've still got a couple of these somewhere. From La Redoute, single breasted, one purple, one green. Take that, wardrobe cullers. Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/09/2016 18:32

Don't like that one. A bit too lounge-lizardish for me, I think.

This dress is positively calling me back to Miss Selfridge in 1991 though.

OP posts:
Floisme · 04/09/2016 18:35

Oh I'd have loved that. I'd look a bugger in it now though.

PNGirl · 04/09/2016 18:38

This doesn't look much online but was lovely in store for anyone wanting mustard knitwear:

m.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_054010712228_-1

I spent most of the 90s in black flared trousers, an Adidas hoodie and trainers - I only started earning my own miney to buy clothes in 2001 which as I recall was the era of fitted tassled cargo pants with heels a la Girls Aloud.

DamnGood314 · 04/09/2016 18:42

REmus
Did you ever find a perfect denim skirt without buttons down the front?

I saw this in Karen Millen on Friday and it is so soft.

the price hurts though
