Do you ever comment positively on a woman's appearance?

Reading the thread about negative comments pp have had made about how they look, I was thinking about the opposite and is it ok to do so. I often look at a woman and think, I like what you're wearing, or you've got lovely hair etc, but I very rarely say it. I was in the pub on Saturday and a woman said to me, you look gorgeous, which was so nice, and a bit of a shock! It did make me feel good about myself and its rare to get that from another woman, if it's from a guy, I just think he's coming on to me and discount it.

So, how do we feel about this, ok or not?

All the time. I always compliment women on their clothes, hair, smile, whether they look well and happy. I'm just that type of person. I always see how beautiful people look rather than focus on the negative. Thanks to ADHD I don't have much of a filter either LOL!

I do get a lot of shocked expressions back though.

I do tell people I know how lovely they look if they have made an effort, or lost weight, or had a new hair cut etc don't think I would tell a stranger, I might stare and pinch her ideas but I wouldn't approach her.

I do it a lot too. I'd never make a negative comment. I'd keep that to myself.

Yes I would, though not so much to strangers. Though I have told people I love their shoes, coat or dress.

All the time. Any friend or work colleague who I think is wearing something I think looks really good on them or they just look lovely, I tell them so.

Friends/colleagues - yes, for sure, if they are looking good/have a new haircut/wearing something that really suits them.

Strangers - the only time I say anything is if someone is trying something on in a shop that looks good - I'd always tell them if it suits them.

Although if I spot someone wearing something I really like I will sometimes ask them where they got it from. That's how I found the perfect pair of grey ankle boots last winter, after a lot of fruitless searching. I admired the boots the woman behind me in a queue was wearing - she had only just bought them, so I went straight across the road and bought the same pair!

Yes I do. It's lovely receiving a compliment. Obviously wouldn't be too personal like 'you've lost loads of weight' but definitely 'love that colour on you, really love those shoes etc etc'.

I often do it with people I know. Less so with strangers but sometimes I think I should.

Always complimenting other women! It's so important to me in a world where women are supposed to compete for beauty and looks and everything. It helps me to stop comparing and instead acknowledge and celebrate women. And when they feel happy it makes me feel happy too.

I've had people laugh at me for doing it but honestly complimenting women feels way better than dragging them down.

Yes I'll comment on a woman or man's appearance if I know them and if it's a positive comment.

I do sometimes but then I met (online) a lot of people who are of the view that you shouldn't say anything about people's appearance good or bad as we should not judge on people's outside. These people did have a lot of feelings about everything we shouldn't be doing though and seemed to want to outdo each other in the 'I'm superior as I'm so inclusive' stakes.

I don't feel the same as them (not that I feel we should judge but I think it's nice to hear you look nice however 'shallow' it may make me) but I'm always a bit paranoid that others are of these peoples view and I'm going to be given a lecture!

Always. If you admire someone's looks or style you should say it. It's also a solidarity thing. That woman might have stepped out the house not feeling 100% and your small comment will make her feel amazing

I wouldn't comment on things that are part of a person - size, type and colour of hair, beauty.
But I do compliment choices like clothes, colours, new haircuts.

Saying that i complimented a woman who works in a local shop the other day she had a dramatic hair change and it really was lovely so i said so .

Yes, but not to strangers.

Having said that sometimes the best compliments are from strangers - I was approached by a stranger in a cafe the other week and asked where I got my dress from as she loved it and I was on a high all day!

All the time to friends and colleagues. I often ask a stranger where they're got an item of clothing, or where they have their hair cut.

Yes if I really like someone's clothes or shoes I tell them, especially if it's a stranger in the street because the times I've had a stranger compliment me have done my confidence wonders and it's a lovely feeling :)

I do, I tell people if I like their hair/scarf/shoes and if they're my friends I notice the days they've made an effort or if they've lost weight.

I like complimenting people.

I do though didn't when I was younger.

I have lived in the US and people do this all the time - 'Aa jess lurv yaw shoes/ hair/ coat!......'
I used to do the usual mumbled 'oh, it's just something I found in TKMax' then learned there's no harm in sounding pleased and saying thanks with a smile.
