I think Jamie Bells ears are bigger! And DSs hair is lighter (though he is sporting a 1980s barnet!), and his jaw a teeny bit widea, but he looks a bit like him in the pics of JB aged about 18 which I am incapable of linking to

Scuppered on sundowner front as it is raining Sad Though still hot Wink However no we get to try the huge complimentary umbrellas! Not sure how we'll fit them down the street with the mad traffic/pedestrians Grin

We have done lots of walking today, so am a little tired. Found two lovely beaches - a small and deserted one at low tide, behind the Turner and a nice, quiet family beach not far from the Premier Inn, Herbs - come out of the hotel and turn left along the front, rather than right as you would to the main beach.

This cottage would be fabulous for a dirty weekend, but I am trying not to think of that...

Rosebag · 30/08/2016 19:57

They're throwing obstacles in your path, Cremo Many patients can't give their permission to make a complaint because they are so ill/incapacitated. Rubbish if I ever heard it. I am so sorry you have this trauma. Flowers Well done for getting a side room for him.

Rudy sending continued positive vibes and hope there will soon be some progress Flowers

I dont have any trouble falling asleep but waking randomly is a bit of a way of life. I seem to defy all research and find reading the iPad soporific for some reason. Confused

Home from the flat this afternoon...it was a nice, calm and sunny drive...all on my own with no one complaining in the back. I feel disorganised and have to put some plans together for DS2's departure to Uni, DD's commencement of her Btec at the theatre this Thursday and DS1's return from Oz on 7th. and I should check it I have any work to look forward to....

Stropperella · 30/08/2016 20:02

Crem, what is happening with your ddad is absolutely appalling. I am both Angry and Sad for you and for him. Dear lord, I know they're strapped for cash, but surely the NHS should be able to do better than this. :(

Rudy, am hoping that things are going as ok as they can under the circs and that there will be progress.

Glad you're having a nice time, MrsS.

Herbs, re-home the chair - unless it would make you sad. I have a bit of a horror about being weighed down by family stuff. As previous generations of my dm's family were rather well-off, there are many large items of furniture and ridiculous stately-home stylee family portraits floating about. And I don't want any of them - not least because I live in what I consider to be a pokey semi. I have already inherited some of my gm's furniture and I don't like it very much. I only still have it because dm would go into a decline if I flogged it and replaced it with pine stuff - but that is what I would rather do. Then again, I also sold my gm's and ggm's wedding rings for scrap (don't anyone tell dm). But I will keep my old dog's collar forever. :)

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2016 20:17

I frequently wake at 4-5am and then can't get back to sleep.
I am also currently TMI alert bleeding on the "new" HRT. The GP said to go back to her in a month if still probs, and this is barely 2 weeks, so I will try to grin and bear it, but I am now wondering quite what is going on as the old bleeding was very dark (and stickyShock) but this is light and fresh IYSWIM Confused
It's crap getting older, isn't it?!

MrsS, I think we all need the deets on your holiday place Wink

Herbs, if you are en voiture, I recommend Minnis Bay (along from Margate through Birchington) if you want a flat, sandy and quieter beach.

Rudy, thinking of you Flowers

OP posts:
herbaceous · 30/08/2016 20:22

We won't be en voiture, as we're going en train to entertain le jeune. As ever.

Getting rid of the chair will make me sad, which is why I don't want to do it. But I can't explain this to DP. He is totally unsentimental about objects. I have snuck it back into DS's room, and arranged cushions on it in an artful manner. Feeling the need for the connection to my childhood, or something.

Right. Have to organise fridge. The new one is now on, and beeping. Have stashed milk and other perishables in next door's facility.

Lalsy · 30/08/2016 21:17

Cremo, that is awful AngryAngry. Is he definitely on the list for Thursday?NI complaints procedure here, tho you have probably found it already.

Rudy, thinking of you tonight and tomorrow, and hoping all is calm.

Minnis Bay - we have biked there from Herne Bay and from Margate. There is a cafe there that I can't help thinking of as Mrs Miggins (of Blackadder fame), which is terribly offputting when it comes to eating cake.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 30/08/2016 21:18

Herbs, if you love it (for whatever reason) don't chuck the chair. Do chuck the sewing machine if not wanted and it won't make you sad. In Suffolk we have the enormous 70s leather furniture from dh's parents house. It's fab although not everyones taste.

Crem - GRRRRRR on your behalf - what a load of crap. Your poor dad.

How are you doing Rudy? Still sending all best wishes for good news your way. X

MI - well done on writing front - sorry about the rest - and you BTM - that sounds miserable. Was seriously considering the old HRT as am so hot sometimes that I think I might spontaneously combust - then read the latest 'scare' research and that made me dither....

GiddyGiddyGoat · 30/08/2016 21:22

Rose - 2 of them to get off to new 'schools'!
Top tip from last year for your ds - no one needs a fold up clothes airer - despite everyone on the Uni threads on MN thinking it is an indispensable item. Ikea big bags are your friend... Don't forget some washing liquid and fabric conditioner - can only help to encourage them to do some washing!

hattymattie · 30/08/2016 21:31

Grin Giddy - DD1 has never asked for a clothes airer, mind you, she mainly leaves her clothes all over her floor. For the DD's, I've just got bedding and mattress toppers from Soak and Sleep, who are brilliant.

MontserratCaballe · 31/08/2016 06:23

Rudy, is it the scan today? Am thinking of you all Flowers

Crem, I hope things get moving today for your poor dad. His treatment has been really shoddy. Thank goodness he has you fighting in his corner.

Herbs, if you are undecided re the chair keep it for now and review at Christmas. I am usually quite ruthless about stuff and chucking things away but have regretted a few hasty decisions. Don't let dp sway you. I agree with GGG about the seeing machine - perhaps that should go instead, especially if it's not used. They can fetch reasonable money so maybe sell and think about recovering chair with the £££££.

Time to shower and get ready for work. Can't say I am keen but will st least tackle some stuff rather than gently fretting over it. Wish me luck for the tight skirt Smile

Blackduck · 31/08/2016 06:33

MC - luck :)

Rudy - keeping everything crossed today. Hoping for really good news.

Cremo - kick arse, not acceptable!

hattymattie · 31/08/2016 07:14

Rudy - fingers crossed for today.

Have sleptSmile

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2016 07:19

Rudy, hoping for you all today.

OP posts:
addle · 31/08/2016 07:29

Rudy - good luck for today, will be thinking of you all

Crem that's awful - yes, complain loud and clear

Monty hope work goes well

Herbs don't get rid of the chair yet, you're not ready. the sewing machine on the other hand ... Agree with not being weighed down by previous generations' stuff but it's an area that requires irrationality. We've also got rid of family stylee portraits but retained scruffy old camel stool and bizarre head of nerfertiti

Mrs S was in Margate on Monday and kept an eye out for you to no avail - agree with your recs of beaches. Didn't manage to do enough eating - did you/have you tried the Indian restaurant Marina O'L (guardian) recommended? I also wanted to go to Forts Cafe. Loved the shell grotto

NUFC69 · 31/08/2016 07:51

Rudy, good luck with today. Hugs to you all.

Crem, I can't believe all the issues with the hospital and your dad - complain, complain, complain. By the way, there is an article in the DT today about Reykjavik - what to do in 24 hours. Let me know if you have difficulty finding it and I will post you a hard copy.

Must be off, DS's DC this morning and then we will be free of childcare until we come back from our holidays.

motherinferior · 31/08/2016 08:28

I too have slept and therefore Ladyjogged. Now attired in pleasing Toast skirt purchased in chazza with Monty (who also deserves an award for sitting straight faced through Mr Inferior's account of hippy t'ai chi) and ready to fling self at page before going to a meeting. A PAID meeting ShockShock

Rudy, virtual hand holding from here too.

CointreauVersial · 31/08/2016 08:52

Rudy - thinking of you and your DS....hope it's good news following the treatment.

Am MNing from the car at the moment - I dropped DS off early for his college day and cba to go into the office early. Actually, I've just realised I was supposed to arrange lunch "for Wednesday's meeting", which I thought was tomorrow, but of course we've lost a day....maybe I should go in after all. Blush

Rosebag · 31/08/2016 09:00

Sending love to Rudy and all my hopes for encouraging results from DS's scans Flowers

Ah Minnis Bay...I have fond memories of taking DS1 there when we used to stay here

BTM that sounds tiresome...is it meant to be a no bleed variety of HRT?

I must catch up on domestic chores....cleaner is unwell and off for at least 2 weeks and there's no food in the house. DH either eats out whenever I'm not around or starves..... I have just realised that I start teaching a weekday, day time course next week too Blush Blush Blush and have hurriedly sent out confirmation emails...

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/08/2016 09:09

Margate is clearly the crepey destination of choice! Addle - was on the beach in the morning and eating fish and chips on the steps on the sea front and gassing with my cousin in the afternoon.

Had awful Indian meal last night at Masala Corner. Much better one the other night in Cinnamon Spice, and half the price. We are contemplating Ambrette for our last night (best Indian food I've eaten outside of the Cinnamon Club).

Thinking of you today Rudy xxx

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2016 09:38

Oh Rudy, your poor DS and you and your family. Willing it to be positive news.

Rose, no - the no bleed one was not working (was spotting every day and making me feel horrible) so back to first one I was on.
And Westgate is still quite sweet!

Hospital time is not normal time, is it? Are you waiting now? Would you like some inconsequential chat or anything?

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2016 09:51

So glad you took him back, Rudy.
I agree with Lalsy - time goes into another dimension when you're in a hospital.
