Foundation to cover lots of spots?

Hi,

I am on medication which has given me a severe acne-like rash. Lots of small white head type spots and redness. I have squeezed some of the spots which hasn't really helped, and they are also prone to bursting and bleeding of their own accord. The skin is also a bit dry and flakey in places.

I have a prescription cream which helps the itching, but doesn't seem to be making any difference to the redness or spots.

Previously my only skin problem has been mild rosacea and I tend to wear Bare Minerals foundation. However the powder just seems to sit on the spots and make them look worse.

Can anyone recommend a type of foundation or cream that would be more effective at covering spots/redness? Or should I just leave it?

If it helps, the rash is like this photo, but mine is not quite as bad at the moment. I don't know if it will get worse as treatment continues.

It's difficult to know for sure what will work best, as often times covering up blemishes looks worse than leaving them be (in my opinion!). However, a good primer followed by Kat von D Lock-It Foundation might do the trick. Good shade range and it has the fullest coverage of anything I have tried. Totally budge-proof too.

Estée Lauder double wear is a heavy camouflage foundation that should give coverage you need?

However may exacerbate the problem? If you can get away with leaving it, I would!

Yes, that's my fear. I've never had any luck covering individual spots - they always look more noticeable and I end up wiping everything off. But I've only the occasional spot before so never made much effort to look for a more suitable product.

Have you tried Bare Minerals bisque concealer? Creamier than the the foundation and covers rosacea/ spots well ime.

Dame no I haven't. I just have the basic powder foundation set thing. I will frantically Google all of these things!

Estee lauder Double wear foundation and concealer and estee lauder primer. But use a very good make up remover or wash or you will get more spots. Wipes don't get it off very well. A little goes a long way too.

Vichy Dermablend is great coverage. Lisa Eldridge has a really good YouTube video on covering a lot of acne or redness whilst still looking natural. She uses the Vichy for part of that. I'll see if I can find a link.

If you go for the Estee Lauder foundations ask for a sample to try at home so it's not an expensive mistake. Any of the counters will give you a sample.

Are you on antibiotics? Is it a yeast folliculitis / acne type thing ? I get this a lot when i take antibiotics or overdo it on wine & sugary food.

hollie no, it's a cancer drug (cetuximab). It is something to do with sebaceous glands and follicles I think, but not entirely sure

Oh, sorry OP. Wish you a good recovery. I can relate to feeling self conscious about it. When I have a bad flare up I feel very awkward - mine looks very similar and I use ELDW and a bit of thickish powder over the top (I like Max factor facefinity - covers a multitude of sins - but am sure ELDW powder is even better). A covering of Sudocrem on it overnight always helps to reduce the redness for me so you could try that too.

Max Factor miracle illusion is very good too especially for redness, I apply with a real techniques stipple brush.

Vichy dermablend will do the trick I love it.

Estée Lauder is the best (I have red acne scarring) but can make some people break out or sometimes doesn't sit right so definitely get a sample and experiment with primers.
If ELDW doesn't work then I would definitely try Revlon Colourstay - it's a double for ELDW but I don't react to that in the same way as I did to ELDW.

When I get any face rash flare up, I put a layer of Moo Goo irritable skin balm on over night instead if a moisturiser. It really clams dozen rashes. I think it's supposed to an eczema cream but not specifically.
I love all Moo Goo stuff and its natural ingredients. I get spots quite often and I think it might be an allergy but I've never pinpointed from what.

Thought you might like some photos of my skin before and after Estee Lauder doublewear maximum cover! I have acne rosacea and it means my complexion is always red and spotty It is worth going to an EL counter to get colour matched, and get some advice on how to apply. Its not cheap but a little goes a long way. A tube lasts me 3-4 months and most days I touch up as it does fade a bit throughout the day.

Thanks hollie I would not go out of the house without it! It gives me the confidence to face the world. Have been told by the GP that there's not an awful lot can be done about my skin, so its camouflage all the way! Only takes about 5 mins to apply.

I asked for an ELDW sample the other day at boots and the lady said they're not allowed to give them out and it'd cost her her job if she was caught doing it is that true??

Looks great btw, would love to try some but I'm an odd colouring with temperamental skin so really do need a sample to try for a while first. I've used Mac full coverage for a long time which you can only order from Mac professionals online or over the phone, it's incredible at coverage spots and redness. Make up artists use it to cover tattoos. That could be with a try if ELDW doesn't work for you OP? It has started to oxidise on me lately though so I leave the house looking fresh and I'm tangerine by the time I get to work!
