Foundation to cover lots of spots?

Hi,

I am on medication which has given me a severe acne-like rash. Lots of small white head type spots and redness. I have squeezed some of the spots Blush which hasn't really helped, and they are also prone to bursting and bleeding of their own accord. The skin is also a bit dry and flakey in places.

I have a prescription cream which helps the itching, but doesn't seem to be making any difference to the redness or spots.

Previously my only skin problem has been mild rosacea and I tend to wear Bare Minerals foundation. However the powder just seems to sit on the spots and make them look worse.

Can anyone recommend a type of foundation or cream that would be more effective at covering spots/redness? Or should I just leave it?

Estée Lauder's Double Wear and the folks at the counter tend to be excellent and usually can't throw enough samples at you. Double Wear isn't the easiest foundation to put on but they will show you how. If that isn't quite enough, The Red Cross offer make up lessons to those with scaring, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for you.

These folks seem to offer help and support:

In my experience Estee Lauder actively encourage you to take samples of double wear and I'm sure they have advertised that! Write to Estee Lauder and complain - and try another counter. They make little sachets of it specially to give out for samples.
It may be worth trying a brush to do the spotty areas to get it into the texture without ending up applying multiple layers of it - the Real Techniques brushes are great for this, the stippling brush or expert face brush are good, or the angled concealer brush for small areas.
Hope you have a speedy recovery OP.

Posie- I don't have spots but have the redness of rosacea, I've been looking at maximum cover as I need something heavy duty. I'm no where near shops so an going to order some samples on eBay. I think Rattan is my colour, what colour do you use? Lovely pics btw!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/07/2016 23:28

Skittles - utter tosh! I always want to try before committing as the lights are so bright in department stores I want to check the colour in day light and also if it irritates my skin.

emsyj · 30/07/2016 23:29

I would try both the normal liquid and the maximum cover Dame - the normal EL DW is quite full coverage, you may not need the heavier maximum cover version. I have had acne all my adult life (it has periods of being awful and periods of being under control - I'm pregnant at the moment so it's quite clear, hurrah! But it will be AWFUL for at least 6 months after the birth, so bracing myself for that!!) I find the ordinary Double Wear is good enough coverage that I can wear that without concealer to cover redness and most spots. I very very rarely use concealer.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/07/2016 23:31

I'm also dithering about the concealer too,as I might only need that.

I need more than Revlon colour stay which similar to double wear I think.

I need something really opaque for the cheek area.

emsyj · 30/07/2016 23:55

I'm not a huge fan of the concealer to be honest. The colour range is quite limited and I couldn't get a good match. Mac Pro Longwear concealer in the little pump bottle is quite good. You may find the maximum cover is equivalent coverage to the concealer but a better texture. The double wear concealer comes in a tube with a wand, so you would use it up pretty fast if you put it all over your cheeks, and it isn't really creamy/blendable - it's more a dab & dot sort of texture.
Get some samples and see what you think. Try the concealer at the counter. I don't personally like dove's foot wands anyway to be honest, I don't think they're very hygenic, but I have a bit of a 'thing' about makeup hygiene.

:) you're all so kind. I'm rubbish at make up so I'm incredibly grateful for all of this.

Posie thank you for sharing the photos. That's really helpful. You look lovely :)

SilentlyScreaming thank you. Look Good, Feel Better are fab. I went to one of their workshops when I was first diagnosed a few years ago (the fucker has come back) so I'm not eligible unfortunately. I wish I hadn't been before as I look so much worse this time round Grin

I shall make a list of things to try and then brave the make up counters!

Woof thank you for the Moogoo recommendation I shall look at that too. Actually Moogoo cream was quite popular on the MN cancer thread a while back for radiotherapy damaged skin.

Thanks emsyj, I didn't get on with Mac concealer,it didn't do a thing for me unfortunately. I'll get a sample of maximum cover and have a go with that.

Botanicbaby · 31/07/2016 06:22

Wishing you well & a speedy recovery Flowers

PS to the PP who posted the pics, they are really amazing!

PosiePootlePerkins · 31/07/2016 06:49

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone, I wasn't sure whether to post the pics but they do show how much the makeup helps me. I get down about my skin sometimes, especially first thing in the morning when it can look really angry, but it is what it is and you find ways to cope. I had lovely skin all through my teens and twenties then bam! Pizza face! I'm 41 now and have accepted it.
OP I hope you find something to help you, and am so sorry for your situation, sending Flowers and lots of get well wishes, I hope you make a good recovery.

PosiePootlePerkins · 31/07/2016 06:53

Dame I wear 03 creamy vanilla.

MadSprocker · 31/07/2016 09:28

What shade PPP? Amazing make up, and doesn't look like a mask.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2016 09:40

Thanks!

olympicsrock · 31/07/2016 09:52

I had problematic adult acne a few years ago and saw an amazing beautiful who suggested a desensitising moisturiser from guinot. It made a huge difference to the comfort of my skin which was red blotchy with lots of whiteheads and actually improved the situation when I wore makeup as it didn't just sit on crusty spots.

olympicsrock · 31/07/2016 09:53
