Do you wear shorts in the summer and what size are you?

I never wear shorts, I don't even own a pair. But we are going on a camping holiday next week, with lots of time on the beach, cycling, walking etc. It just strikes me that shorts with a t-shirt and a hoody for if its chilly is going to be much more practical than jeans.

I'm a size 12, no neither thin nor massive. I have quite chunky thighs though, and a varicose vein that I'm really self conscious of. Will I look ridiculous in shorts?

I've got long legs, but they are long and sturdy (good for swimming but not very pretty) rather than long and elegant. I also have big knees.

Im 45 size 18 and yes. Some M&S ones. Comfortable and above knees rather than top of thighs.

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2016 19:36

44 and size 16 with short fat legs.
I wear them on holiday and to potter around the house but apart from that not really in public.
I've got 2 pairs, one are navy chino ones and the other are dark denim.

I'm 52 and I wear shorts all the time in summer. Am I too old then? Stuff that!

Not to work of course (I am a teacher) but certainly on the beach or in the garden or even in my home town on a hot day. I am a size 10-12 (hah! depending on where I shop) - I weigh about 10st and am 5ft 6. Fairly fit and toned but I don't like my big thighs but I still wear em!

gincamelbak · 29/07/2016 19:39

I wear knee length slim fit shorts and mid thigh length chino shorts. And just above knee length skirts.

I'm 36 and a size 12.

I don't fake tan. I wear my pale blue legs with pride. I used to worry about how I looked and what people thought until earlier this year when I decided to give up giving a fuck. It's very liberating plus I stopped caring myself to others and thereby stopped giving a fuck about what they looked like too.

It's summer. If it's sunny, wear something that is summery. Who cares what age you are! Who cares about legs or skin colour. It doesn't matter! Stuff what people think or do, it's only clothes at the end of the day. Wear what you feel comfy in and crack on with life.

:-)

Age 49 and size 10-12. I have been working out and running since Jan and have better legs than I had ten years ago, so have been wearing them again this year. Went camping last week and they were perfect for that.

IsItMeOr · 29/07/2016 19:41

Yes, on holiday and at home. Not to work, shops or school run.

Size 16.

I also have a couple of pairs of cropped trousers which I live in in the heat. These from Phase 8 are my favourite.

I didn't wear shorts at all for years, then took a good look at everybody else's legs who were wearing shorts and realised that my legs are just legs, thread veins, cellulite, flab and all.

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 29/07/2016 19:43

I'm a size 8/10 and under 30. I don't wear them, I never have. Its just not a look I like.

DeliveredByKiki · 29/07/2016 19:45

Go for it - my mum is 58 and rocks shorts just above her knee

ElephantMug · 29/07/2016 19:45

I'm 36, size 8-10 but chunky of thigh. It's muscule though so this year, I decided I didn't care if my large white thighs scared people and I am wearing shorts RIGHT NOW! Quite short ones too.
Go for it, nobody will care, OP. I never judge others the way I judge myself.

DeliveredByKiki · 29/07/2016 19:47

And I'm 33 and wear fairly short shorts (3/4" so top of the thigh but cover my bum properly), am 5'9" though with a short torso so I feel ok wearing them as long as I have a baggy top to cover my tummy

Madbengalmum · 29/07/2016 19:48

Size 8-10, hate shorts.would sooner wear a dress or short skirt.

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/07/2016 19:56

I don't think its an age thing, I'm more confident at 38 than I was at 28 (and thinner, at 28 I had just had my third baby in 4 years). I think its more that I've never worn them, not even in my teens.

Have just put a bit of gradual tan on my legs as I figure it can only improve matters.

I wear jeans shorts, just above the knee. I am 53 and a size 10.

Hopefully · 29/07/2016 20:07

Also a 12, also have veins of doom, but yes, I wear shorts. I slap on a bit of Sally Hansen leg spray stuff when my legs are pale at the start of the season, but the hideous vein is less visible as I get a tan.

TitaniasTits · 29/07/2016 20:09

Yes, I'm 37 and a size 14. My legs are my best bit though - at least they're a nice shape, despite a few scars and broken veins.

hiccupgirl · 29/07/2016 20:10

44 and size 16-18 on the bottom.

I love my just above the knee denim shorts and wear them out and about (not when working but otherwise). I recently bought a pair of denim ones that are about 3' above my knees and I was hesitant at first but then I went for it and wore then for the school run and no-one keeled over and my legs felt great.

Life is too short to say parts of your body shouldn't be on show especially if we're talking longer shorts here.

megletthesecond · 29/07/2016 20:12

Yes. Cut off (slightly above knee) denim ones for day to day. Short cut off denim shorts for heatwaves and holidays.

Boots light spray tan, anyway up aerosol, is my friend. I do my legs in the garden at night with the security light off so the neighbours can't see Grin.

dementedma · 29/07/2016 20:12

I'm 53, size 14 and wear shorts in the garden or round the house. Cut off jeans to mid thigh, not teeny weeny ones.

eightbluebirds · 29/07/2016 20:13

Yup and I'm a size 16 with chubby legs. I look better In shorts keeping cool than I do sweating my tits off in jeans

SnoopDoggyDogg · 29/07/2016 20:30

Yes, every day. Short shorts, size 8. But NEVER EVER without a liberal application of Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. Makes them look a million times better. I'd never wear shorts if it wasn't for Sally!

SilverHawk · 29/07/2016 20:37

Mid fifties and size 12 bottoms. My days of Daisy Dukes are long over but my shorts wearing probably started at that length! I've still got very good legs apart from a few little veins on the back of a knee.
I have to wear a baggy top now as the tum hasn't aged like the legs Sad
I now wear top thigh or knee length.

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/07/2016 20:37

I need to just bite the bullet and wear them, don't I?

OP posts:
PeppasNanna · 29/07/2016 20:38

Im an 8-10. Mid 40's.
Short & horrible thick legs.
I've never owned a pair of shorts or a skirt.
I stopped wearing cropped trousers about 4 years ago as I realised they are very unflattering.

I have had a couple of maxi dresses.

Never ever will i show my legs...Blush
